Done. That was a pretty basic questionnaire- #9, the one about whether MC'ers have more or less accidents compared to drivers seemed strange to me... as a percentage of total motor vehicles on the road, MC's are a pretty dang low number compared to cages, so it seems obvious that there would be more accidents for cages. To the OP'er: Can you elaborate on your motivations for doing this survey? (I do appreciate it generally, but I'm not sure exactly what your ultimate goal might be.) As a lifelong motorcyclist, I'm 100% positive that my skills and awareness gleaned from riding make me a much better driver... Carry on... |

Squids- I wholeheartily agree. I have learned to anticipate a driver's actions and it has kept me accident free for a really long time. I drive over 40,000mi. a year so I feel that is an accomplishment. |

9. As a percentage, there are: More motorcycle accidents per motorcyclist The same amount of motorcycle accidents per motorcyclist compared to vehicle accidents per vehicle driver More vehicle accidents per vehicle driver and WAY more DUI's |

Survey answers submitted. I too believe that my miles and experiences on a motorcycle have made me a much more aware and defensive driver. High-Vis gear could also have been added to the list of safety gear, just my two cents. On the flip side I read an interesting editorial in a motorcycle mag (forgive me, bad memory too many subscriptions to recall which one) where the writer felt that with so many people wearing those bright yellow/orange vests out there, from construction workers to newspaper vendors and panhandlers, drivers have become immune to them. I still wear mine and feel safer doing so, although it does not take the place of being a very defensive and aware rider. |

OK, thanks Mark- I trust your insights, brudder! Percentage-wise, this ? is a little nebulous... I guess I didn't quite understand #9, the way it was stated... |

I don't believe high viz gear makes much difference Drivers can't see a 40 foot long yellow bus the size of a barn - hence high center brake lights, now strobes on the roof...... |

Drivers can't see a 40 foot long yellow bus the size of a barn As someone who drives a big yellow bus daily I feel somewhat qualified to say that you've hit the nail on the head. The big difference is the look on their faces when the suddenly see a bus that has just appeared out of thin air. When that happens with a bike they just assume the bike must be doing something they shouldn't. |
