Also in the news today we have...

Molotov cocktail thrown at a bank.

At least 2 cops being slashed, 1 taking 20 stitches.

7 cops treated for injuries (not sure if that includes the 2 slashed or not).

Protesters throwing what is believed to be vinegar into the faces of police.

It is about time to go Canadian on their asses!

I honestly don't understand how anyone could have doubted that this was heading in this direction from day one. This was predictable and easy to see coming. Peaceful movement my ass! They've just been provoking and looking for an excuse to start with the serious violence.

Monty Python is TIMELESS

Dennis: Come and see the violence inherent in the system. Help! Help! I'm being repressed! HELP HELP! I'm being repressed!

King Arthur: Bloody peasant!

Dennis: Oh, what a giveaway! Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That's what I'm on about! Did you see him repressing me? You saw him, Didn't you?

Those darn rich folks .......

At the Alexander Hamilton Medical dinner tonight and Gerry Lenfest announces he's kicking in $30,000,000 for a new arts venue on the Manhattanville Campus (across the street from the Dinosaur) that Columbia is building in Harlem.

If ...... As the kid I spoke to today suggested...... We all were given the same amount of money every year.....if Gerry hadn't worked hard and saved some bucks ..... Who do you suppose would fund the arts and education?

The rich mess everything up......

Bunch of loser, lazy hippies..... but meeting with tea partiers and having a lively, respectful civil discourse?

Hmm. Maybe, just maybe, and from all the hate-filled posts I've read here, all you OWS haters are just into hating, not into a productive, open-minded discussion with some young, passionate folk who may not know the best way to take back their country, but they are sure working it with persistence and passion.

It's hard to respect a bunch of attention seekers who support socialism/communism and destroying free markets. No matter how misguided they are painted their intentions are to receive without effort, their signs spell it out clearly.

Here is someone I respect and who you won't find at OWS.

Here's the problem...

quote:

"The Occupy movement has remained adamant about not drafting a list of demands because terrorists make demands, and we're not terrorists," said Pope, a graphic design student. "We shouldn't have to demand a democratic process."

I agree that the only thing separating them from terrorists is a list of demands. Of course we know what they want from their signs and those that do speak out, so what separates them from terrorists? NOTHING! They have just been poorly organized terrorists. It is noteworthy though that as they get more organized the violence is in fact increasing.

There may be hope for a few of them when they realize that the Tea Party sees many of the same problems and actually is working toward solutions that don't involve terrorism. In my area a Tea Party group meets monthly as a scheduled meeting and has well informed speakers invited to educate people on what is going on in government and how to engage to make things happen. Their events/protests are a very small part of what they do and really serve little purpose beyond getting curious folks out to meet and talk with them. Their events are very low key. The OWS folks OTOH are doing little more than having a catered illegal camp out with occasional riots. They don't have to "demand a democratic process" as Pope put it. They do have to learn a little bit about how the process works however. The process has been in place for a few hundred years now. Learn about it and make it work for you. I have a very good friend who is doing exactly that with the help of Tea Party folks and the legislation she is pushing is making great progress in Congress as we speak.

It is a false argument that OWS and The Tea Party agree that there are systemic problems and therefore can respect each other and possibly work together. The OWS movement is a Socialist movement at best and is leaning more towards anarchy, which always leads to totalitarianism. There is no common ground here even though most Conservatives (and even traders on Wall Street) agree that their are serious problems.

Health care is a another good example. Most Conservatives agree that the current healthcare system has serious problems in need of change. Instead of positive change, we get Obamacare. Obamacare is the absolute wrong way to go but that is what the minority Left wanted and got. Now all we can do is focus on repealing this abomination and then it is unlikely there will be the political will to institute true health care reform afterwards. Tort reform, allowing insurance to compete across state lines, empowerment of RNs are just some of the things that need to be done to make affordable health care.

Just because I agree that health care needs reform, I will never agree to the Obama means to the end.

So goes OWS.

Reindog,

I agree 100% that OWS is Socialist at best. I also agree 100% that their solutions are worlds apart from conservative solutions. The good news is that they do point to some problems that most of us can agree on and that is why early on they had a lot of support when polling was done. As people saw what was really going on their support has done nothing but diminish, and will diminish more after their "day of action". Many of the early supporters who aren't committed Socialists will look for who is offering real reform. Right now that is the Tea Party.

OWS was instigated by Adbusters up in Canada. They are an anti-capitalism group. (Yes, anti-capitalism is also anti-American too.) They were quickly joined by groups that are Anarchist, Marxist, Communist, etc. Adbusters never did anything to distance themselves from these early joiners. They seemed more than happy to have the comradery. Those who support OWS may be persistent and passionate about their cause, but there is no doubt in my mind that they are anit-American. Fahren, you can call it hate if you like, but I'm not ever going to open up to a bunch of anti-American idiots who are breaking the law and infringing on other peoples rights to safely travel in public.

OWS and the Tea Party are diametrically opposed to one another.

The Tea Party believes that the Federal government has grown too large, seized too much control, grown beyond the intended bounds of proper government.

OWS believe that the Federal government isn't large enough, that the Federal government needs more power, and that there should be no limits on what the Federal government can do.

I don't see there being ANY common ground between the two.

The OWS folks are enemies of the Constitution and, by extension, are enemies of the United States.

They should be dealt with accordingly.

"I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

How should someone who objects to the Constitution, seeks to undermine it or destroy it outright, and is either "foreign and domestic" be treated, according to the Military Oath of Enlistment?

Free speech protections end with the public advocation for the destruction of the very vehicle that grants those protections. At that point, you become the enemy of the United States.

Ft_bstrd,

The Flea Party and the Tea Party are without a doubt diametrically opposed when it comes to the solutions to problems. Anyone who can't understand that just isn't paying attention.

The Flea Party is also certainly an enemy to the Constitution. Again, if you can't understand that, you just aren't paying attention.

They to have some issues where the complaints are at least similar to that of many conservatives. While I have my doubt about the Flea Parties sincerity on those issues, they are being used to lure in moderates that haven't been on top of what's really going on right from the start. The good news is that as these moderates see the BS that they are doing every day they will find that the Flea Party isn't what they thought. At that point they are perfectly positioned for the message that the Tea Party has had all along. These radical leftists will self destruct and help take down the politicians that stand with them (Nancy, Berry).

It would be nice to think that we only see the extremists in these groups. After 2 months of daily escalation of the ridiculous BS from them we can see that this is the norm from them. You just can't credibly blame 60 days of bad behavior on just a few bad apples. Eventually you have accept that's just who they are. They have no clear message and just live day by day to disrupt the lives of innocent, productive people. They have absolutely nothing positive to offer.
