The George Washington Carrier Strike Group is in port here in HKG. Was lucky to meet and buy dinner for a couple of class act sailors tonight. These men and women are great representatives of the US. http://www.c7f.navy.mil/news/2011/11-november/009. htm
..Dang Brinnutz,a lot of metal on your chest(congrats and thanks) and a thank you goes to your grandfather(he's another"pages of history").Hope he was able to tell you of what he did and where he was.All of their stories were/are very interesting as they were there(beat a book/movie hands down).LT
When i was in the Navy i put in on my"dream sheet"(i know how true the word"dream"really is) was Hawaii,Mediterranean,Japan.Well i was from the Bay Area in CA and i wanted to "Join the Navy and see the world" and this would probably be the ONLY way to do,right?...AAAAHHHHHHH...wrongo mr sailor..we in our infinitesimal wisdom are going to home port you to Alameda,CA on board the USS Enterprise...and you get to protect the sovereign state of the Catalina Islands!!!Oh joy of joy...all we did mostly was tool around out off the CA coast doing right and left hand turns, and maybe an occasional figure eight just to add to the"exciement".Bout the only "fun" times there was when air wings came on board and got to watch flight ops(got to admit night ops were cool to watch). So much for this sailors"see the world" scenerio(even had a "shopping list" of things to get all around.ppppppffffftttttt that one down the tubes!LT
Those guys went through hell and back... Victor died when a 16 yo hit him on his Harley in 2000... Robert died a few years later from Oxycontin... both really good guys... they did everything humanly possible to help other Vets who struggled with addiction. Victor had 23 years sober and Robert 14 before his relapse... he kicked herion to be killed by Oxy. Unfortunately both left behind wives and children.
Country Joe and the Fish -- I always seem to relate that band with Zachariah, a psychedelic electric Western. Maybe because they are in it. Yeah, that's it. Far out!
Cool movie - been waiting for it to be available on NetFlix. Been waiting a long time now.
