I love all the Jeeps on here! Anybody roam around any Jeep forums? I used to be "JeepinTJ99" on JeepForum, but I'm on JeepForum, JK-Forum, and WranglerForum as "C2U5H" now. Sold the '99 TJ with 109k miles on it for $6k, and put 30% down on this bad boy on Thurs! Say hello to Miss Cheeto ... 2012 JK Rubicon in Crush orange. Thing's incredible.

The Pentastar 3.6L is a fantastic mill and hasn't disappointed me yet. Torque below 1400 rpm is a little lacking, but immediately above that is fantastic: it chirps the 32" BFG MT KM tires in 3rd gear and squats the rear / lifts the front under hard acceleration. It brings the beef, all without dropping under 18.5 mpg, hand calculated. And I don't even have to wrap the kick stand in aluminum foil during oil changes: the oil filter is a replaceable element under a cap on top of the engine! My favorite color! I get employee pricing at a Jeep dealer and I'm considering a new base model since they're THAT much more than a nice used 2006 Wrangler. |

I would love to have a new one... but my wife would freak as soon as I started taking all non essentials out... carpet... rear seat... fender flare... bumpers... I wonder how much weight you could remove.... |

Thumper: if you sign up for a 3-yr membership at TreadLightly.org, you get guaranteed 1-2% below dealer invoice. I used to work at the Jeep dealership I bought mine from so they offer the employee pricing (EP), but the Tread Lightly offer beat it. Check it out. Etennuly: Yep! Two Torx screws, a one electrical connector and the doors slide right off! And you don't even have to remove a fuse to defeat the dome light while doorless! The computer recognized the doors are off when you disconnect the small electrical connector for the power windows/locks! Too fancy for me coming from my TJ ... Wolf: I could save a TON of weight if I stripped it out and bedlined it like my TJ ... but it would kill me to do it to such a new/expensive(for me)/nice vehicle. Probably get up to 20+ mpg, too! But the power is so nice already, I don't yearn for the extra power by going to stage IV weight reduction. |

I wouldn't be looking to save the weight as much as being able to clean it out with a leaf blower and garden hose.... |

Power windows and locks? WTF? So you probably wouldn't pop them off and leave them leaning against a tree while out on the trails.....eh?

Wow! Very nice! I have been jonesing for a nice wrangler since I sold my 89 back in the day. I have friends with TJs, is the power really that much more? I know 285 is an impressive number, but in the real world, is it a step or huge leap forward? I am in the market for an up grade and would love a rubi, but for the money, there are a lot of other nice vehicles out there. I am interested in your thoughts. |

Kicking the dents out would be fine...if I hadn't gotten an earful of shattering glass from the drivers door. "New" door already on (in festive forest green). Fender is hanging in the garage with fresh rattlecan white paint (was maroon). Grille just waiting for me to attach the rest of the stuff... |

Did I mention I'm getting there slowly???? Got the fuel rail installed. Also added a 1" spacer to my plenum so I could install the Ford racing valve covers that I initially wanted to put on.
Had trouble with the PS pump hitting my steering shaft with the stock brackets so I had to get aftermarket brackets for the front. Cleaned up the front quite a bit.
I have the Painless wiring harness 80% installed.
earlier this week I had to make my own crossmember/tranny mount. Yay what a ball of fun that was. I'd like to get it sent out next week for the exhaust to get made and to have it, hopefully, running soon. It feels good to see the end of the road finally, not bad considering that I'll by 3 months past my personal deadline.................... don't even wanna talk about my budget. |

Zenbiker: The power really is a big deal — going from my iron block, push rod, 4.0L I6 with distributor ignition to an aluminum block 3.6L VVT 24V DOHC V6 is CRAZY. "It won't have any torque down low, and it'll just be a rev-happy rice rocket. No thanks," is what I thought ... BEFORE I drove one. Wow. I mean, you're not going to beat any sports cars, but rolling on 32" MTs with the engine feels like I had the stock 29" tires on my TJ. Can start in 3rd gear from a stop comfortably (4.10 gears), and once ~1.4k rpm rolls by you have everything there. It's a fantastic engine and is the only reason I really decided to drop the hammer and get rid of the TJ. The 3.8L was the only thing holding me back from getting an '07-'11 JK, and when they redid the interior last year ('11) I started drooling. Then they dropped the engine in, I drove it, and that's all she wrote. Rat: Oh no! Glad you're okay ... makes me miss the '85 XJ my father gave to me in high school. Then I remember the 2.8L V6 it had and shudder. LOL. I was actually shopping for a 4.0L, 4-dr, manual tranny XJ before I got my TJ. Went with the TJ because what I wanted was so rare to find. Wolf: Beyond the offroad capabilities it comes with that you mentioned: • The New Generation D44s it has are a lot different than earlier revisions; they're actually only a fraction of an inch short of being considered "full-width" axles. With an 8.8" ring gear and 32-spline shafts, the only weaknesses are the tube thickness and the upper C on the knuckle, which can be taken care of with a sleeve and gusset kit. • The intake port for the airbox seals against the hood on the engine-side so a water splashing up from fording doesn't introduce water into the intake. • Alternator is turned 180° (pulley is on the rear side) so water-sensitive components are facing away from splashing water. • Swaybar disconnect BUTTON, 4:1 low range T-case, and full selectable electronic lockers F/R as mentioned before. I'm SO stoked I don't have to lay down to unbolt the swaybar end links ... even with quick disconnects, you still have to get under there, not mention line up the suspension to put them back on. Just push a friggin' button!! Seriously?! I'm happy. The torsion bar Currie Anti-Rock would definitely be a better choice for offroad stability, but for the mixed on and offroad (mostly on), the disconnects are fine. • Even when you're running with the diffs open, the BLD (brake locking differential) applies the brake to a single slipping wheel to transfer power to the one with grip ... and it actually WORKS (albeit wearing a little faster on the pads). It's just too much to go into ... so quiet, so smooth, so SWEET! |

Thanks for the feedback Josh. I really liked the Cjs and TJs and thought that the new one was an acceptable move forward, but still no real upgrade in power. My friend just bought a 73 bronco and I was going to go down that path. But with all of the added content of the 2012 wrangler (even though the price is much greater) it really makes it tough to even consider the bronco (but yes, they are cool). Seeing as I have a full time job, house in disrepair and new wife, (not to mention keeping my 2 S2s in pristine shape) redoing an old bronco is not an option. So thanks again for the input. |

Josh.....Ahhh.....serious technology comes to the land of the Jeep. That is quite awesome. I feel like with my Jeep I am building a hammer and you have a well equipped refined tool box to work with. I felt and saw the same difference in my Corvettes of years past. The old was brute force, the new was technology, smoothness, and finesse. Jim, are you going to 'show' that thing.....or dig dirt with it? You are making it too pretty to get it dirty. |

Yeah it's going to be a shame to muck it all up, but that's what I'm building it for. It does look good though doesn't it?? |
