At the time of the Osama killing there were a number of items that did not make sense to me and I have a limited military background. Some of my family members, who have much much more military experience, couldn't believe what was being portrayed and being exposed afterward. Apparently we were not alone.

Going to read this book. As soon as it was announced we got him and seized his belongings my grandfather cussed at the TV screen and Obama. He said then "None of this information should have come out for at least a month. Let these people do their jobs!" He voted for Obama and has since stated he will not again mostly for the handling of this situation. I am glad someone took the time to find the truth.

Interesting. I felt similarly as you about the early reports/claims.

Some of the claims in that article are questionable. The intel gathered would be far from worthless, but it's value surely was diminished by the quick announcement. The Pakistanis who sympathize with al qaeda would surely have announced it anyway, no?

There's a difference between rumors of "Some people are saying something weird happened" and the US President saying, "Yes, we did this."

It probably would have been wiser to wait for rumors to get very strong before confirming, "Yes, we were responsible." That way the intelligence gathered could have potentially been used.

Even better if a report came out about a suspected terrorist IED manufacturing compound suffering some kind of disaster... and that they are investigating the crater now to see if they can find any clues...

The President was far too anxious to claim credit for the victory. SOP for this POTUS.

Really. He came on TV and told people it happened. He made the decision based on intelligence. I never heard him take all the credit and he deserved what he got. Had the mission failed the weight of attacking inside of that country without notice would have killed him politically. He signed off and let brave US soldiers do their job. Then in the aftermath he did the right thing and didn't disclose pictures. In this instance I feel Obama acted correctly and with dignity. Blame all the haters in the house an senate for leaking false info in an attempt to discredit. As I am told often OPEN YOUR EYES!!!!!!!

Really? So you don't think it would have been wise to wait a while and look at the intelligence and anything else you might have found in the compound before telling the world you killed OBL. That's pretty stupid, if you ask me. The world did not need to know we got OBL when it happened. It would have been smarter for our national interests to look at any data they may have found and catch or kill some more bad guys. But at least Obama got his headlines.

Yeah because a crashed US military helicopter on foreign soil next to a bullet riddled building would go noticed...

Lying about it and then stating months later "oh BTW remember that failed training mission that none of you believed me about back then Well really we killed Bin laden."

No one would have believed it and he would have been crucified twice.

Because the Bad Guys wouldn't have caught wind of Osama being dead? I'm sure they would have thought he got drunk shot up the house and then went for a private vacation in Bali. So they shouldn't worry about the missing intel. They are terrorists not a bunch of morons. (ok some are but not the ones that would be OK with Osama and intel being missing and a US helicopter conveniently crashed nearby

I gotta agree somewhat with Andy. However, the news could have waited a day or two or even a week to give a better chance of acting successfully on any intel scoop they may have found.

Blake that may be true.

However i would wager that news of a US military helicopter in side another nation without full explanation would have garnered worldwide ire not something the US needed. Especially as it could be construed as an act of war at the worst or at best making the SEALS/Navy look incompetent by getting "lost" and crashing.

Neither option seems right to me.

oh BTW "I gotta agree somewhat with Andy" almost stopped my heart and made me spit up coffee.

Glad we could finally somewhat agree on something!

As Blake has pointed out in the past, you're a person who listens, sees and evaluates before opining.

This is how people who generally differ in opinion maintain respectful discourse. You're a good example for others.

I think the helicopter that was behind the 16-19ft walls of the compound would have gone mostly unnoticed. If given more time. Some locals may have been aware of it at most. I believe if Obama would have waited even 72hrs it could have and would have been handled much differently. Hindsight is 20/20 of course and I am just hoping someone has learned from this and things get handled a different way in the future.

How long before some "news" organization releases the SEAL team names? Just to sell some papers or airtime. Hopefully not for a very very long time.

I may be mistaken, but I remember the helicopter was inside the wall, but the tail was outside. There was a lot of discussion because the tail was a configuration that had NOT been seen publicly before

On the day the Admin. and various jerks in it gave many contradictory stories. It was obvious that many who spoke up had not actually been briefed on what happened, and were having ego trips being the one the reporters paid attention to. Happens. Bipartisan.

I thank Obama for not screwing it up. ( Like Carter & Desert One )

It was also known within days that Obama had passed the decision process off on Osama capture weeks before the event.

The complaint that the President's deliberate publicity show made much of the info captured in the raid useless is COMPLETELY valid.

It's Not the first time a politician going for glory on others actions ruined things. Often, people DIE because of leaks, but this was a decision by the Commander In Chief. Legal.

Wrong, IMHO, but so was Clinton's revealing that we had Osama's phone calls monitored and knew he called Mommy every night. . Without that public bragging Osama would have been captured weeks, not years after September, 2001. ( we'll skip Clinton's Minions not allowing Osama's capture years before, and the Felony coverup, theft and destruction of Public documents by said minion. )

I always assumed that the SEALs were after a capture, and Obama's minions flat out lied that it was an execution. I expect that from them. They are practiced at it.
