Here's the situation: I was helping a co-worker out with a timing belt install and found this in the splash shield drain hole.

2000 Honda Civic oil pump bolt. 6mm threads.

Note the last thread is stretched.

After some research with the oil pump tightening sequence, I found that it belongs here.

Now, the bolt is clean, so it's a recent issue and the remainder is definitely in the hole still. It doesn't seem like it rusted and sheared off like an exhaust manifold bolt. The bolt has a nice sharp ledge where it broke and I'm wondering if a small enough screw driver just might just be enough to back it out. Removing the crank pulley and compressor isn't a big deal, but I'd rather not be drilling into the block, though I bet a small reverse drill bit (do they even make them?) would be enough to spin it out backwards with out going through the hassle of using an extractor.

What are my options? It's already been hit with ATF/acetone to soak...

See if it wiggles with a pick. If it does....."sometimes" you can turn it out with the pick. A very light tap on the pick will slowly turn it...use something light/solid,like a 1/2 bolt as the "hammer".

It's about 3/4" into the hole. It like like it goes through the oil pump housing into the block and broken flush to the block, but I'll try that since it's free and I hope it will work!

If you can't get it out, get a short bolt and locktite the hell out of it and drive it in.

I know it's damn near blasphemy, but when is the next time you're gonna have to take the oil pump out? The vehicle won't live as long as a new pump.

Weird.
Doesn't look like it's leaking. How many bolts remain to hold it on?
It must not me under pressure there, eh?

My harbor freight had left hand drill bits last time I was there (I bought a set, used them a few times since, work well).

There are 6 bolts total. The pickup tube is just to the left of the center line of the crank and the output from the oil pump is to the upper right hand side.

I'm going to try pulling it out with a screw driver/pick since it shouldn't be under tension as the bolt's clamping force is on the shoulder and there should be no reason at all for other damage to the bolt. If that doesn't work, I'll get an EZ Out since they come with a left hand drill bit anyway.

I've got some stomach issues today and I'm not working on the car.

Though, my dad tracked down a set of left hand drill bits at AutoZone and a heavy duty scratch awl to see if we can back it out.

In between bathroom trips, I called the Honda dealer for the bolt. One told me $8.xx and special order. The other one told me $0.89, but special order and told me the size (6/35), so I can just buy one at a good hardware store. Thanks Sunnyside Honda!
