Thanks Macbuell. Lemon, those Thruxtons are stunners. Especially the bottom one. You should look into picking up a used one and build your own "Cafe racer". Here's some inspiration, This is a 1994 (I think) Ducati 900ss. These bikes can be had for around $3500.00. I think you could build this bike for about $5K? Union5 by dbosh@att.net, on Flickr |

A new Norton is a cool idea, but I think they have less of a dealer network than EBR! |

At least we're on Norton the page! HA! Hate to tell you, but the two are nearly mutually exclusive. Don't ruin a good story with the truth I definitely want something to RIDE, and I'm riding to work almost everyday now, so the Triumphs are looking hard to beat for the combination of simplicity/reliability/value + styling that I like That SS is nice, and they are relatively cheap here too. Something along those lines, but no fairing, using a 750SS or 750 Monster could be very cool Dare I mention air-head Beemers??? |

Bosh, that X1 is my inspiration for my build... just gotta find the right machine to start with and the funds to do it. I'm thinking I'll be around $5500 all in with what I'd be able to sell off... |

So I had the breaks bled on my ST yesterday. Not really a DIY think with the ABS system, so off to the dealer. Had a new chain installed too. While there I was chatting with the sales staff. I asked about how the sales on the Thruxton has been and mentioned that I've never seen on on the floor. He said they never make it to the showroom because they are sold as they come in. Apparently the show Cafe Racers has made them incredibly popular. The dealer gets one, they make a phone call and it gets sold. Nice business model! |

They don't seem to move quite that quickly here, though on the saturday I went for a test ride they sold a used 2011 model that they'd only traded-in the day before. I need to get some dvd's of Cafe Racer tv. It's been on Foxtel here, but not free-to-air. |

That X1 is really nice. I really like how they've done the headlight, and I might move my catch tank to the same spot they've got it. I've been trawling the web for ideas, looking for things lean and simple and purposeful, though not necessarily retro. If you'll indulge me in a bit of a long post, here's some things I found...
I wouldn't do a Sportster, but this looks very cool:
New and old combined, and very interesting:
More info at: http://taimoshancycleworks.com/bikes/super-cafe-racer/super-cafe-racer-the-story/ I'm finding I really like the style of the following bikes from Galli Moto and LSL, though I'd ditch the fork-gaiters and knee pads...
I could easily live with a combination of the grey bike above and the white bike below, and ride it to work everyday I particularly like the short alloy guards front and rear, rather than nothing at all like some bikes:
Hmmm, maybe I should start a cafe racer/streetfighter pics thread... |

My last bike was a Sprint ST, but I'd take my 1125R hands down. Much better bike for me in almost every way |

Good pics Lemon- those Ducs are SCHWEEET...! Do you get the Horse magazine down there? Most of their stuff is chopped, but nearly all of it is cool to look at, lots of great ideas executed in every build... The one pic with the red Norton, that one looked like a Kenny Dreer bike... several years ago at the Atlanta IMS they had one, it was to be raffled off at the end of the tour- I bought several tix and wished real hard... some dude in Idaho or somewhere won it. Boohoo... |

I think that Norton is an original Commando, the Dreer Nortons have inverted Olins forks and shocks and much larger brakes.I do love those Cafe Bikes, have since I was a kid,I'm thinking that I might put some Clubman bars and higher pegs on my M2 to give it that "Cafe" look.Thats the reason I bought it,is because it had that "look". |

Much better bike for me in almost every way Horses for courses I'm just finding the 1125R isn't working for me, even though I know it's a brilliant bike. Do you get the Horse magazine down there? Most of their stuff is chopped, but nearly all of it is cool to look at, lots of great ideas executed in every build... I can't actually remember the last time I went into a newsagent to look at bike magazines... it'd be at least 6 months ago. I used to see "Iron Horse" magazine, is that the same one? I do love those Cafe Bikes, have since I was a kid,I'm thinking that I might put some Clubman bars and higher pegs on my M2 to give it that "Cafe" look.Thats the reason I bought it,is because it had that "look". Absolutely! I found some cool Buell cafe racer's which I will post tomorrow, including an M2. I also found one of my fav bikes I haven't seen in a long time, Lyle Lovett's Monster. I gotta get some zzz's, but I have to share this. It's lean, it's uncomplicated, light, and would be perfect in that stop/start friday afternoon traffic... maybe not so good on the freeway though...

Awesome bicycle! I'm just trying to figure out what looks like a chain tensioner near the rear sprocket. Much better bike for me in almost every way Horses for courses I'm just finding the 1125R isn't working for me, even though I know it's a brilliant bike. Couldn't agree more. I find the Sprint ST to be fantastic. It is a different tool from the 1125R though, so for some the best tool will differ. They are both terrific tools though. |
