That reminds me of the pro-Bush/Pro-Iraq war rally in SF some years back.

The week before over 100,000 people showed up to protest the admin. Anti-war folk, Illegal aliens en masse demanding more welfare, etc. etc.

The Pro-Bush rally had a few thousand. The very snarky "reporter" asked the organizer why so few... The response?

"We work for a living and go to class"

Sifo, I had my doubts on that pic too, but how can you pass up Hispanic transgender studies?

"Life lessons on Jersey Shore" would be more useful. Heck, a major in the technology of Star Trek would be more useful to tomorrow ( and the student ) than almost any of the social consciousness majors. Pretty obviously Basketweaving is now too hard for spoiled kids.

Here in Atlanta, looks like they're trying to move into a homeless shelter where the previous occupants are in the process of being evicted for unpaid sewer and utility bills.

My understanding (from limited internet research) is that the top 1% controls about 45-55 % of the money. And the 1% controlling 99% of the money theory is false. Makes it hard to take seriously. I would like to see a Communist country where the people are happy. Show me that and i will listen.. also Che Guiverra?? Yeah cuz the Cubans are soo happy lol. Don't get me wrong things are a mess but show me a detailed plan to fix things instead of protesting and i will be happy to look at it.

No you don't, because then you would need $12 to get a Baconator meal, or $2.50 for a bottle of coke from a vending machine.

To be fair, most of these protestors are probably Gen X'ers and younger and with how many unemployed and students there seem to be, it's likely those homes are thier parent's homes.

Not saying that legitimizes anything, but it's unlikely that a lot of these people are the actuals owners or rent-payers of those places.

I always wonder about all the unemployed college "graduates" - what are their fields-of-study?

Wondering if there might be some correlations between major and employment? If somebody could wade through the crowds and take down the statistics. They could prove very useful for parents to use in explaining to their kids WHY they should NOT choose particular fields of study when going to college.

I know I personally chose a field over some others specifically because it was more marketable - it's paid off many times over. The job I landed out of college paid roughly 3.5 times MORE per year than if I had done my first choice major, assuming I could find a job at all at that time.

I think the problem you find is not the worthless degrees, but people unwilling to get work outside of thier major.

My girlfriend was an English major - a decision she now regrets as she's not interested in being a teacher and is unwilling, at this point in her life, to start at the very bottom working as a writer. Every job she's had has been in unrelated fields, but they hire her and she excels because she speaks well, looks professional and works hard.

You can major in whatever you want as long as you understand the consequences of that decision. You might not be able to work in your field right away, if ever. If you do, you might have bust your ass for (gasp) minimum wage for a little while before you can make a decent living at it. It may even have to be something you do pro bono on the side to gain experience for someone will fire you for it. You might end up working for Enterprise Rent-A-Car instead.

I struggle every day with my degree and my line of work. I hate my job and am sure I'd enjoy work much more had I chosen another major. BUT - i get paid much better and that allows me to have a much better life outside of work than if I were making less.

I didn't even start pursuing the degree I wanted to go after, because the math never worked. Then I choose Electical Engineering... harder work, but more likely to earn me a living.

Graduating with my BSEET, I looked around realized there were 10 software jobs for every hardware job, and went on to do masters work in computer science. Got hired half way through that, but finished all the course work anyway, and never looked back.

So not only did I not do the major I wanted so that I had a job that would support a family, I walked away from a degree I already had and took two more years of classes to adjust for a new reality.

For what that's worth....

Part of the problem is the belief that I should be able to choose a field of study I like and be able to find a job in the field I want to work in because it makes ME happy.

Most of the time, you don't get to do the job you really want to do straight out of college. You have to do some really $hitty jobs in fields completely unrelated to your major before you get to start working in your field. Most of the time your first job pays less than what you expect your degree should buy.

I remember my first job out of college paid $13,000 plus a bonus of about $3000. I had a degree in finance and economics and graduated first in my class, 4.0 cumulative GPA. I SHOULD have been able to just walk right into a $50,000/year job, right?

These spoiled brats have been given WAY too much in life. Their parents thought they were "giving them everything they never had", but they have crippled these snowflakes for life. Our parents didn't have a house, two cars, a motorcycle, a vacation home, an investment account, three flatscreen TVs, etc. at 22.

Hell, my dad didn't buy his first brand new car until I was in HS.

The real fact of life is that most of us toil at jobs that we endure for less money than we would like and have to sacrifice and save to accomplish what we really want in life. If you are REALLY, REALLY lucky, you find a niche where you can excel and that you find satisfying or at least mostly tolerable and be rewarded with higher than average income.

If you are one in a million, you get to do the job of your dreams. To do that, you have to be a ninja, bad ass at what you love to do.

Most of us don't get to be Danger_dave. ; )

OK....so WHAT is the list of official demands? They've had seven weeks to figure it out. The Nazis, Communists, and Obama support them so what are their positions and proposed solutions to their perceived injustices? The Left really is like a spoiled three year old.

My demand is: "I want more!"

"Raise the minimum wage immediately to $18/hr. Create a maximum wage of $90/hr to eliminate inequality."
"Institute a negative income tax, and tax the very rich at rates up to 90%."

That would leave the "very rich" with 10% of $90 per hour ($9 per hour)! I think I'll go for the minimum wage job where I can only assume that I will get the "negative income tax" benefit. Did these people even get past grade school?

"Pass stricter campaign finance reform laws. Ban all private donations. All campaigns will receive equal funding, provided by the taxpayers."

At least now I can run for President on someone else's dime with no risk of my own!

"Make homeschooling illegal. Religious fanatics use it to feed their children propaganda."

By all means! Feeding propaganda is the roll of the state, not the parents!

"End the 'War on Drugs'."

I'm surprised this wasn't right at the top!

Rein - They wanted a presidential commission to separate money from politics. The protest was originally about corporate influence on democracy, and how there has been a lack of legal action taken regarding the global financial issues.

They should go after the politicians then. Their actions don't jive with that claim. I have an inkling why that might be.

Ok, looked over the demands. 24 demands, right?

of the 24..
I agree with 5
I disagree with 11
I think 8 are idiotic.
( unworkable, can't happen, or really bad ideas. So you can include those 8 with my disagree's if you want... 19 disagree's. I separate them because they are so foolish. )

There are 3 demands I will die to prevent.
Go ahead and guess which ones, but don't expect incriminating testimony here.

My First degree was in Russian Area Studies with a minor in Soviet Economics - read MARXISM. The year I graduated the wall in Berlin fell.
The entire Russian intell community got SACKED. the market was flooded with 15 year spooks with no prospects in their old field - as a new college grad with the 'inside track' on battling the Evil Red Empire, gone = I was F#cked.
Fell into insurance because it was lucrative, easy, and plentiful. NEVER was my intent or goal. Got out when I got the chance to go with Harley.
When the economy TANKED... and started heading its own SOCIALIST/MARXIST path - I went and got a Masters in HealthCare Finance and Administration.
I will spend the next 20 YEARS gainfully employed UNF*cking the mess that is the PPACA -
And I will do it from a country that is on the way OUT of Marxism, rather than one stepping further into the quicksand.

These 99%'rs ARENT the revolutionaries this agenda wants - they are the useful idiots of the mensheviks. The national guard will roll through them next spring, and with life fire. It is exactly what Lenin did in 1918. Rout out the dissedents, find the talented competing opposition to the status quo and have them murdered, even better yet if you can have the STATE do it, because it will further your cause for a crumbling of the central government to the favor of the new RED Union - just in time for the 100th year celebration in 2017.

Looks like Oakland is closer to riot than peaceful demonstration. Interesting that the Mayor gave all city employees (except for police) the day off to take part in the riots, then expects the police to keep things under control. That's as clear cut as the rest of this ridiculous movement. Time to beat them like baby seals! http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/11/occu py-oakland-tear-gas-arrests.html

OWS riots in Oakland. Anyone who claims that OWS=The Tea Party is sadly misinformed or is in serious spin mode. You are wrong and you know that you are wrong. Can't wait until the Nazis march in support of OWS and their ally, Obama. Where will your support be then? The Tea Party is increasingly looking like it is the correct philosophy and direction for America. Make mine a smaller Federal government and a constitutionally correct, not politically correct, country. Why would you not agree?

The 2012 campaign is going to be interesting now that 0 is solidly in bed with the rioters and anarchists.

I'm not convinced that the election will matter at this point. If he wins he will happily take the next 4 years to further "change" our country. Failing that I see this sort of thing ramping up in a hurry with support from certain local governments creating a "crisis" that can't go to waste. Time to declare marshal law and suspend the Constitution and seize control. Change you can believe in baby!

BTW, I understand that Oakland government workers actually had a paid day off. Effectively the mayor was using government funds to fund a riot. George Orwell would be proud!
