*Disclaimer* I am not advocating reckless riding habits or illegal activities. Please ride responsibly and in a safe area! (and I am in no way related to this application other then to share my personal experience) So you've made some changes to your beloved Buell and it sure feels stronger! If only you had a way to measure 0-60 times or 1/4 mile times? Sans a "test and tune" day at your local strip. Hey there's an App for that!!! If you've got an Android Device just download Ulysse Speedometer from the Android Marketplace. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.binaryto ys.speedometer&feature=search_result This app is awesome! sure, any app can tell you which direction and at what speed, but this one takes advantage of the accelerometer in your phone to start a timer and then uses the GPS to measure your speed. It will show you the 0-60 time, 0-100 time as well as your 1/4 mile times! And you can do all of that with the phone safely clipped to your belt! The app says it could be off by as much as 3% to 4% so it's prob not going to give you the same results as the timer at the drag strip, but it will get you some numbers to help you quantify that gut feeling you get when the bike is running just right! I was able to measure consistent 4.5s 0-60 times (when I could keep the front wheel on the ground at launch) so, even if it is "off" it's repeatable which I think is more important. Try it out, have some fun, cooler denser air makes these bikes so much more fun to ride then in the 110° days of the summer! Post up your times if you dare! |

I've had the app, but never noticed the feature to log times before, gonna have to do that this evening, even with the giant mitt things on my handlebar. |

Not sure how fast the Android GPS can calculate speed, but I know that my Garmin has a noticeable lag. That might be the 3-4% error they say you might get. I think that error might get larger with better performance. Still an interesting app. My phone makes phone calls. |

Make sure you take out the phone number for your insurance company and any LEOffices. You know they are watching! |

The way GPS works is that it occasionally calculates the time it takes to communicate with multiple satellites to triangulate your position, the way speed is determined is by calculating how long it took you to get from where you were to where you are now. The update rate varies, but once every second is roughly the normal rate. The accelerometer helps improve the accuracy.

Indeed it will. I've seen it happen where I've broken the 100mph barrier on my 1125cr, but my Zumo never picked me up going faster than 85. If I maintained the 100mph for several seconds it would recorded it. Phones are not as accurate as dedicated GPS units anyway, so there is even more margin of error. GPS is great for overall statistics, but not for short run things like 0-60 times.

Ironically, mine can't. You call my number, it rings, I can't answer. After you leave a voicemail I can listen to it on my tablet, but I have no way of calling you back on the road.

Hint, they already know even before you even post about it |

There is a similar app for the iPhone and iPod Touch called Dynolicious. It calculates speed without GPS, but you'll have to plug in the weight of you and your bike in the setup routine. The reviews and promo lit make it sound like its measurements have 1-2% error. I checked today, and the price was $12.99. Because the app doesn't use GPS, you'll have to mount your hand-held device on the bike so its top is pointing in the direction you're going. |

A couple years ago when I was down at Buelltoberfest we were headed back to Fontana Village for the night. With the heavy tree cover my GPS got confused and showed me out in the center of the lake. I also noticed the speed kept going up dramatically. The next day we rode over to South Carolina on 28 (what a fanastic road) and at a small town gas station the local cop stopped by. He came over and started talking to us about our bikes and noticed my GPS and asked about it. I told him that it had a really cool 'maximum speed' feature and cued it up. It showed 215mph. The cop looked at me and said "There's no way that bike can go 215". I explained that for some reason when it got confused the max speed jumped that much. He just laughed and told us to ride safe. |

Weight is only needed to get HP results. Just the tri-axial accelerometer and clock ought to provide all the data needed to record time to speed. I wonder why they use GPS? Must be only a bi-axial accelerometer. |

I tried it tonight, on a stretch that I know is slightly less than a quarter mile. It said my 0-60 time was 6.0 seconds flat and quarter mile time was 13.0 seconds. I know I killed the throttle at around 80 as the speed limit was no where near that... It reset itself though and I can't remember the actual numbers. |

I must be missing something, I thought the whole point of bolting on doohickeys & go-faster stuff was so that you had to go & test it on your favourite "test track". Blake, I'd think bi-axial as there's probably not enough thickness/depth in most phone casings for a tri-axial, mind you stuff is getting so tiny these days. Froggy get well soon, keep taking the tablets. |
