I remember this race very well. It has taken me 5 years to finally find a video of one of the races that Erik Buell had contributed in the early days of his business . Now if I can find the earlier video of him riding his RW750. Notice the name of the bike at 4:18 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHIxDGtNsYs&feature =related |

This bike was the first LH and Erik did not have anything to do with it. |

Not bashing HD riders, but do you think more than 2% of them are even aware of this history? It's kind of sad, that all of the weekend biker posers, or Hells Actuaries as I like to call them probably have no idea of the ancestry of their choice of brand. |

Garrett, I was wondering the same thing, I heard he put it back together and has it on display at the dealership, but have yet to verify this... might call to find out. |

I was wondering about it also. Thanks Dave for clearing up the misinformation. I want to say that the very next year or two years later the announcers were saying how great those Buell's were on the track and glad to see them in the pack. I'm still looking for the F1 last race footage Erik and a co-rider was in. It was televised and were telling how bad it was that he was building the bikes from the ground up and the series was being discontinued. Someone has got to post it sometime. |

Charlotte - it is NOT on display at the Statesville or Salisbury location (last went to the statesville dealership the week we went to WV for the WVBR, and went to salisbury two weeks ago) I heard similiar, that he had it, it was put together etc Johnny - youre probably right, that very few who own HDs know about LH bike and guys like Cal Rayburn etc etc I agree with you. But its not any different from any other manufacturer. Hell, I've had two local (in winston salem) buell owners ask me if I had the 1200 or 900 motor in my 1125 and how did I make the motor watercooled. Some people just dont know about the brand they own. And thats fine. Im sure some of the goldwing guys dont know old honda racebikes etc It is what it is |

LH. In pieces in the back warehouse? That's the last legend I saw in print, but then again, it's all legend. |

Actually you would be surprised how many hd riders were there for the bott races.I had ducati's at the time and use to set up the ducati corral in the infield for syds cycles on friday of bike week for the bott races. Those were the glory days of daytona. Look how many people are in the infield and grandstands.the other buell rw750 was sponsered by the american machinist's union and ridden by doug brauneck from macon ga. Also malcolme tunstall #266 beat gene church in october of 85 at the daytona pro-am.Glory days for sure !! |

Tilley is restoring Lucifer's Hammer. It's in the shop at the dealer and if you ask, I'm sure they'll let you take a look. I've got some great shots of it, but do not have access to them right now... |

Brankin: Is that a catch tank under the frame? The name came from a good sci-fi novel by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. rt |
