anyone been there? i'll be going there later on next month for about 9 days with my dad, stepmom and 2 of my sisters. trying to figure out some things to do. im sure i'll go snorkeling. i usually enjoy that. would love to do some diving but am not certified and dont want to spend 4-5 days of my time there getting certified. and there dont seem to be many worth while novice trips available. i have dived before just not much. could do the studying here and most of the diving there though... already told my sisters i plan on jumping a ferry to cancun atleast one night and going club/bar hopping. yes im sure i'll indulge in some tasty beverages, but i want to make the most of my trip so dont intend to get repeatedly $hit canned and sleep away the day... my sisters on the other hand im not so sure of(both in college and one will be legal to drink there...) lol. so what else????? been looking around online, just not really coming up with alot i guess. |

It's pretty much snorkeling, fishing, drinking and womanizing from what I (barely) remember. Cancun is about the same. Don't forget the sunscreen. |

I remember "Isla" being somewhat more laid back (and a bit more run-down) than Cancun when my wife & I went in 2000. The place might be different now. We tended toward the uncrowded, more "authentic" places in Mexico, anyway. We rented a VW Beetle and drove all over Yucatan. Only got shook down by cops twice. We stayed and snorkeled at Paamul and weren't disappointed: http://www.paamul.com/english/index3.php The ruins at Tulum are a must.

Oh yeah, now I remember Tulum. I took a trip to Xcaret too. That was really cool. It's a national park that has Myan ruins, an underground river that you can snorkel in, a sea turtle rehabilitation facility, and I'm sure some other cool stuff. Those days are a little foggy if you know what I mean. |

i do know its suppose to be atleast slightly more laid back then cancun is. if jenn was along id be all for that, loungin around and relaxing, but since its just me i'll need to find ways to keep myself busy or i'll get bored lol. i did see stuff on the ruins. seems cool. there is also a huge underwater sculpture museum i am definatly spending time at. and snorkeling in an under ground river could be a good time! there are plenty of scooters to rent, maybe i can do some stuntin... lol! |

Don't bother to go to Chichen Itza(sp?)unless you can get there early, before the tour buses show up. Beautiful ruins, though. Tulum - great site. Coba: inland, farther down; ruins still surrounded by jungle - much more like what it must have been to stumble upon them while hacking through jungle with a machete and native guides.... Cerveza and Ceviche, man. Enjoy! |
