Sorry it is kind of small to read, but it reads the amount estimated because of defense contractor waste and fraud for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is equal to about $12 million every day for the past 10 years.

$12,000,000 would also be a rough approximation of what the taxpayers are paying daily trying to get to the bottom of the Eric "Colonel Kilnk" Holder . . . "I' don't know nothing" scandal.

Be mindful this is like the 7th such scandal the AG has brought on the administration.

Frankly . . .Obama and his administration look like a bunch of bumbling idiots.

Sifo,

Your post is very misleading. Pretty much every single item on the list was set in motion in the fall of 2008, right before the election, after 8 years of Republican rule. Gas prices in summer of 2008 were >$4. The first wave of stimulus and bailouts out in place by Bush. Home values crashed before inauguration day. The only thing where the current administration made any significant difference could have been healthcare, and while I haven't checked numbers, my premiums were increasing at a pretty good clip before Obama, as well.

You could argue that things have not improved since Obama took office, but to lay the whole stinking pile of crap on his doorstep, as that chart insinuates, is dishonest.

They are just points in time. We are closing in on 3 year under BO and things have only gotten worse. BO's stimulus has only stimulated the debt.

Home prices crashed under Bush? True enough. Any idea why? It goes back long before Bush. And it's not getting better under BO.

Gas prices were high for a while in '08. The response was to promise more US production and prices fell dramatically. BO promised that under his plan "energy prices would necessarily skyrocket".

Healthcare is doing exactly what the critics said it would do and exactly what BO said it would fix. Piles of cash being spent and costs are going up faster than before.

Some things are certainly long term problems. That doesn't give the ones in power a pass for failing to address them though. Close to 3 years of BO and things are getting worse. Nothing misleading about that.

>>>but to lay the whole stinking pile of crap on his doorstep, as that chart insinuates, is dishonest.

Explain to me why?

He is our leader.

He should lead.

To date, he's done nothing that even remotely approximated leading.

Ignore, for the instant, the topic of "who owns it?" . . that's too subjective, no one will agree.

But . . President Obama is RESPONSIBLE.

That's an objective fact. When a person "accepts responsibility" they become responsible.

It was, after all, Barack himself who uttered . . .

quote:

“I will be held accountable,” Obama said. “I’ve got four years and … A year form now, I think people are going to see that we’re starting to make some progress, but there’s still going to be some pain out there … If I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition.”

He's failed to deliver on that.

In addition . . he's failed, miserably in fact, on the "transparency" claims by even the wildest stretch of the imagination.

The guy . . on his best day . . is an utter failure and embarrassment to America.

We deserve better leaders.

But . . President Obama is RESPONSIBLE.

So was Bush, when the whole pile started. Bush was the leader for 8 years. Gas prices shot up to almost $5. Presided over the train wreck that the banks were cooking up.

Gas prices didn't come down, despite what Sifo says, until the economy went in the crapper.

I won't disagree with anything you say about BOs performance. He has not been a leader. I'd probably disagree with you on what he should have done differently, but the fact that, especially during his first term, he let the Republican minority define the debate was inexcusable.

But the previous administration drove the train into the ground. And their only ideas now are more of the same.

Gas prices shot up to almost $5.

Topped at $4.12 for a very short period.

So if prices fell due to the economy, just imagine where they will be when we finally get a recovery. Is that really the point you want to go with?

How did the banks create the vast numbers of bad mortgages that failed? Here's a hint... Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. The Bush administration wanted to reign them in and was stopped by congress. Who was in power in Congress back then?

My prices were local. I paid $5.00 here a few times. Also note the precipitous decline in October - November. Same time the banks were imploding.

As far as gas prices when (if) we get a recovery? My guess would be somewhere north of $6.00. That's the one thing that I don't think either administration has much to do with, with the possible exception of failing to rein in speculation in crude.

Absolute nonsense. You can not successfully defend 0 by attacking Bush and that will always be a losing proposition. Get this through your noggin.

Bush was Liberal. 0 is Socialist. Neither was Conservative. Additionally, Congress became uber Liberal in 2006. Sorry but these are facts.

This economy would have recovered and be growing three years into 0's presidency if he was Conservative. The Real Estate market would have been flushed out and have found its real value. Instead, Congress and the President continue to think that Social engineering is the answer. People who never should have given loans created this bubble. Time for them to get out and rent. There is nothing wrong with renting.

Stop the victimization card. If you made a bad decision, then accept it and move on. I have lost LOTS of money as a result of some stupid moves. It is painful but I have only myself to blame. I am NOT a victim. Neither are the deadbeats who got 125% LTV. They should have known better and need to clear out. Instead, Congress and 0 are doing everything in their power to prolong this crisis.

Being a friend to business rather than a class enemy is the path to unleashing the private sector. 0 clearly stated that he was going to decimate the coal industry and then his response to the BP disaster has done nothing but make us more beholden to OPEC. The list is virtually endless.

Corporations do NOT pay taxes and they never will by definition. All is passed on to the consumer. Get this through your noggin.

Conservatism is the ONLY answer. Get it through your noggin. Anything else won't even qualify as foreplay.

The economy will skyrocket when the voters open their eyes and realize this.

Perhaps it did. But doing nothing, in the face of a huge disaster, natural and economic, caused by an industry, that by its own admission had no idea how to fix this problem seems somewhat irresponsible.

No idea how to fix it. They new exactly how to fix it. It just took time to drill a new hole. Numerous things where tried as stop gap measures along the way with various degrees of success.

Perhaps you can explain how shutting down all offshore drilling (while funding offshore drilling in Brazil) did anything at all to fix the problem.

Show me where they once said anything that remotely resembles "we have no idea how to fix it".

Keep making up facts and you'll be appointed to the Obama administration.

I was glad to see the health care bill begin getting disassembled this morning. Seems they'd played a bit fast and loose with facts as well. Turns out that to make the numbers work their need to be 244,00,000 folks working and paying in . . . oops.

By the way . . . if you THINK (it's your opinion, it's not fact) the oil companies knew nothing . . . . check out the neighborhood organizer from Chicago who appointed himself in charge.

This idiot makes Jimmy Carter look like Winston Churchill.

Any doubts . . come visit and watch his loyal minions crap all over our streets. I had a dream last night that Rudy was still in office and the streets were paved with spoiled brats holding their eyes freshly showered in pepper spray.

If I rolled out a bedroll in the park . . my ass would be arrested in a heartbeat . . . it appears that to be exempt you need to smoke a joint and have a pasty layer of your own crap on the back of your leg.

Obama wasn't content to be a personal embarrassment . . he had to create a movement of fellow embarriastionists.

It should have been Action and Ambition - that will bring a change with it - always has, Government is not the solution is not the solution to the problem - GOVERNMENT is the problem

I do believe Obama has done us a huge favor - I do believe they have appropriately shown the Democratic Emperor is wearing no clothes.
..... do you think Obama will give up the reigns like Carter did ?.... I am betting not. If they don't suspend elections altogether, I am hedging against an occupied martial law in the interim from November to January.

Show me where they once said anything that remotely resembles "we have no idea how to fix it".

Hayward said the company's contingency plans were inadequate and "we were making it up day to day."

"What was going on was some extraordinary engineering,"

excerpt from BBC interview after he left

Remotely resembles we have no idea how to fix it. In fact, they had some ideas, but most of them didn't work, out side of second well they had to drill to plug the hole, which took several months.

Considering that the BOP completely failed, something that is a singular event in offshore drilling, they were doing a lot of on the fly engineering. There's no doubt about that. Any catastrophe of this size is going to be a unique event that require unique engineering. Meanwhile the proven method of drilling the second hole was being done all along. So sure they were trying things as short term fixes as they went. That's what happens in unique situations. To say that they had no idea how to fix it is absolutely wrong. The problem is that people seem to just expect them to be able to turn off a valve and shut it down. That was the BOP that failed.

Back on topic though, I'll repeat myself... Perhaps you can explain how shutting down all offshore drilling (while funding offshore drilling in Brazil) did anything at all to fix the problem.

If Idiots that hate drilling had not forced drilling into extreme depths. The Bp Blow out would have presented less of a problem to deal with. Drilling that deep is pushing the limits of technology. We do not have to drill in waters that deep if it were not for the Nimbys.

Scooter-
You choose to ignore that the Dems ran both houses of congress during Bush's last 2 years. His biggest mistake was trusting that the Dems would do the right thing for the US instead of the Dems. All they did his whole 8 years was to position themselves to win the presidency and both houses. And to this day the main-stream media ignores the role the Dems had in Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae and the subprime mortgage disaster.

Once the Dems got what they wanted look what has happened. How can you dispute that?

\i that the BOP completely failed, something that is a singular event in offshore drilling,}

BOPs are supposed to be triple redundant devices. This one failed. If I remember my LOPA math, that's supposed to be 1/10000 chance of failure. This one failed. Was that because it was in deep water? Because of faulty maintenance? The only obvious thing is that contingency plans, which were essentially the same for the entire industry, were woefully inadequate.

A pause to review industry practices, and ensure that the technology is adequate seems prudent to me. In addition to almost immeasurable, environmental and financial damage, 11 people were killed.

And since the moratorium, from June to October 2010 roughly coincides to the average gas price on your chart above, with maximums to either side, I'd say the statistical effect on prices is unclear at best.

You choose to ignore that Reps controlled the House and had a filibuster proof minority in the Senate during Obama's last two year. His biggest mistake was trusting that Reps would do the right thing for the US instead of the Reps. All they did his whole 3 years so far was to position themselves to win the presidency and both houses. And to this day Fox news ignores the role the Reps had in deregulating the financial industry and the near collapse of same.
