I don't have to know everything to know living in a Chicago suburb is stupid expensive. It's one of many reasons I don't live in a Chicago suburb. Duh.

Rocco,
You are TOTALLY awesome, dude and you brighten up my day when you check in. However, I am unaware of any Badwebber who hates. Most are Right of center as a result of being motorcycle enthusiasts who tend to be in their 30s, 40's, and (cough, cough) beyond. Its that stupid life experience thing that tends to make people more Conservative. Of course, except that Gess guy. The Lefticles help make us honest by forcing us to think. Thanks and a hat tip for that. Hopefully, we Nazoids return the favor.

Drkside is a big boy and can handle himself and listens to what others believe. He is a learner.

Tea party , protests taxes ,government intrusion ,government waist .

They come , they CLEAN UP and leave .

OWS , protests ? Big BANKS and everything the government wont GIVE them .

They come , They stay , They trash the place and get pissed when asked to move so someone else can come clean up there mess.

Q I am not sure of the issue you are representing?

A I am saying that greed runs rampant and people should be paid a fair wage.

Q Should you make more money?

A Yes

Q Should your rent be lower?
A NO

Q Should somebody pay your student loans off.
A Don't have any but thanks for the offer.

Violence breaks out at OWS
posted at 2:05 pm on October 14, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Just a short while after protesters learned they’d be able to stay in Zuccotti Park indefinitely, violence broke out as a group marched away from it.
Protesters, apparently jubilant over being able to stay in the park after their furious cleanup efforts, took their brooms, flags and signs and started fanning out at around 7:30 a.m.

Reindog,

I do listen and I do learn. The second you stop you cease to live. At the same time just because the majority here believes it does not it rue.

That being said there are a few in here on the other side (for lack of a different word) who would benefit greatly from the same practice.

I am willing to admit i do not know it all. I also detest every time i am labeled as what Rocket described.

As for what Rocket said he was extreme but their was a core element of truth to it.

I am a centralist who leans liberal.

I like the open-mindedness of Chris Martenson, how he went to NYC to see and report for himself, without judging or taking the media's word for what this is "about." His blog has a good read, for those who have not already judged the situation, or accepted the judgment of mainstream media:

Drkside79,

Glad the hypothetical isn't about you. I'll feel more free to speak my mind without the sugar coating. I just took a look at apartment prices online in my town. $1200 looks to get you a decent 2 bdrm. Sounds pretty ballpark. They seem to start around $1000 though. Sure they are a bit dumpier, but would save you $200 a month and they aren't like you are living in the projects on the southside. Of course a young couple starting doesn't even need a 2 bdrm. This is the problem in the first place, demanding that you not settle for what you have earned. Why the f&ck did this couple start out in a 2 bdrm place? Even when the kid came they could manage in a one bdrm place. Sure it will be cramped, but we are talking about a couple just starting out. Deal with it for a couple of years until you get on your feet. Doing this will save you about $400 a month without going to the dumpier apartments. That's about 10% of the total take home pay. Pretty nice.

Others have pointed out the excessive car payments already. Certainly more can be saved there too.

In a year if they are worth keeping employed they will probably be making more money. If not they should be looking for a better job. They are young and just starting out. They won't be able to live like older folks who are well established.

The path they are on leads to debt and bad credit ratings and a hole that will haunt them for years. The frugal path will lead to saving money that can be put towards a place of their own in a few years and a good credit rating that will let them get the loan. Which story do you want to be telling the kid later in life. How we purchased beyond our means and that's why we wound up evicted and bankrupt, or how the early years were tough living in that cramped 1 bdrm apartment while saving for the starter home in a nice neighborhood? Instant gratification isn't always what it's cracked up to be.

Unemoyment among college grads is at something like 4%.

Take from that whatever you will.

I am thrilled to see so many of these lazy bastards crapping on themselves in the park.

My sons businesses are growing wildly and they'll need folks to hire someday

These lazy bastards will be in the pool.

No complaints and the kids in the park, who make up less than 1/10th of 1% of the tourists in NYC on any given day, are not even noticed locally.

P.S. - I agree with you pic Rocco .... Obama lies.

Yeah, there's some points in the article, but it is a bit bullying.

In my own situation I asked for a raise after four years and got "permanently layed off." I then asked the next employer of two years to pay me fairly (they stopped paying my full commission) and got fired. In the present job I'm about where I started, only I ain't sayin' squat about money! I'm makin' it and that's all that matters in the end.

Unfortunately, the OWS'ers are noticed and impacting local businesses near Defecation Park. A restaurant owner was on Hannity today complaining how they come in to use her bathroom but not purchase anything. She had to put a lock on her bathroom as toilet paper and water are part of her cost structure. As a result, the OWS'ers got loud and demanded a boycott of her business.
Another group representing "the central committee" came in and sat down. She asked how she could help them. They replied that they "had lots of money" which came from donations that they were accounting for. They said it was too dangerous to count the money in the park. They did not purchase anything.

7.6B at Columbia U right now.

Profit up 24%.

There is nothing private about an Ivy League school these days. Look at all the gov't money poured into them. Your money! But your kids can't go to them because you're broke paying for their support via current federal tax system.

True that . .

quote:

While Columbia’s endowment comes from donors far less exciting than the top global soda-pop brand, its rainy-day funds rose 17 percent to $6.5 billion in 2010, outpacing Harvard’s endowment growth. The well-managed endowment provides tuition, room and board, and additional fees for undergrads whose families make less than $60,000 annually.

A financial sector worker, making a great living, speaks out in favor of Occupy, sees it as a question of needing to re-assess our societal values, basing value less in (only) materialism:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica /2011/oct/14/1-99-occupy-wall-street

quote:

I'm not saying there shouldn't be reward for effort, or risk-taking. I'm certainly not arguing for a rigid socialist system of equal wealth distribution. But are these the summit of our values, of our aspirations of society? Do the spoils need to be so unevenly split? Why do we tolerate a system where we know the very richest can manage their affairs to avoid paying their taxes, all to advance their accumulation of meaningless quantities of mundane material objects?

There is something wrong with our value system that encourages people to aspire to those riches. But there's something more fundamentally wrong in our political and economic system that permits them to do so while the vast majority of people languish in poverty, or are barely keeping their heads above water after paying their taxes, their student debts, their rent and basic necessities.

And these flaws are even more glaring when the system is constructed in such a way as to privatise most of the wealth of the financial system in a tiny number of hands, and yet socialise its losses among ordinary working men and women.

For as well as I've done out of the system, I don't want to live in a society with these values, which relies on such a heavily manipulated political economy to deliver such staggeringly unequal wealth. We have enough wealth as a society that no one should ever be just one medical or dental emergency away from homelessness or hunger. There is no reason why social security cannot co-exist with a system that still rewards entrepreneurship, innovation, risk-taking and hard work.

(Paraphrasing here)

Georges Clemenceau when told that his 22 year old son was a Communist and should be disowned said that his son was 22 -- of course he's a Communist. He'd disown him if he weren't.

If he was still a Communist at 30, he'd disown him then.

Clemenceau is often worth quoting (spent some idle time googling)

He was a noted duellist in France and while in the train station he surprised his second when he paid for a one-way ticket. His second asked, "Isn't that a little pessimistic?" to which Clemenceau replied, "Not at all, I always use my opponent's return ticket for the trip back."

Ahhh... the good old days.

Up close ...... The kids visiting us appear to exhibit little wisdom, sense of purpose or direction. They don't seem very bright.

I'm wondering if there are reasons, beyond their much touted victim of the capitalist machine status, that have kept them out of schools.

They certainly are cheap bastards. But, it's fun to watch them screw in the park.

The protestors are going to photographed and put in a database with facial recognition. In a few years, these same folks will be applying for jobs at the evil corporations that they now vilify. They will be recognized and not hired.

They really are not bright. Some of them will post their "resume" on Facebook in plain view of the HR department. Happens all the time.
