I think it's funny that it's supposed to be a grass roots movement compared to the Tea Party too. I wonder who's really behind it?

Of course these groups are "popping up" in many cities.

I'm wondering why the park owner backed off cleaning the park. I keep thinking someone very influential "persuaded" the owner to back off.

Try not buying 2 brand new cars at the same time. Buy a used car and save a boatload of cash....or use mass transit

Try not having a kid until you can afford it. No one is entitled to have a child. Just because you can reproduce doesn't mean you should.

It's called responsible spending.

My wife and I waited 6 years after we were married before we started with the kids. Our first house was a 2 flat to help pay the mortgage. It was the Carter year. My interest was 12.5%. Our salaries were not very high and we drove very used cars at first. We rented for a few years to save money for the house.

The problem with some of the younger generation is they expect to start at the top. We had to work our way up the ladder.

Now get off of my lawn!

Orman I don't we have one new, one old. Nor was the scenario a direct representation of my life....

Believe it or not though people sometimes have new cars before they get married.

As for the Kid part Shit happens and most people will never have a kid if they wait till they can afford one.

Fine one new one old add 350 back on and you are still in the hole $50.

Where was the irresponsible spending? Oh and 350 is not much for a car payment thats an under 22K with 10% down

I'm not picking on you specifically, I'm picking on the mindset that people these days think ever damn thing should be handed to them on a silver platter RIGHT NOW no matter how hard they work.

How often does "shit happen" and you end up with a kid if you are responsible?...somewhere around .1%?
I have been married for 6.5 years and after much consideration my wife is just going off birth control this week.
We have our debt under control
We are ~30 years old
We (or rather the bank) own a house
We both make respectable salaries (since we have experience) and have healthcare through our employer

I have never (although my wife has) owned a new car.

I don't know your situation personally so I am not commenting on that directly.

But looking at the overall issue ... Why do you need two cars? Why does a family trying to establish themselves financially out of college need to have a child.

And if someone said the child wasn't planned, they still need to own the responsibility for caring for that child and not expect the government or some other entity to carry the burden.

And I would call incurring financial commitments when you do not have the means to carry them irresponsible behavior. Why should I clean up after that financially irresponsible decisions.

I worked hard to put myself through school. I worked hard to pay off my debts after school living in a small, one bedroom apt and not buying things I could not afford.

You see, you unknowingly hit the nail on the head there. Not everyone should own a home. Not everyone is entitled to have two cars. People need to make decisions in life and then those people need to own those decisions and take responsibility for them.

Sorry, but I have little sympathy for someone who studied Eastern Philosophy and now cannot find a job "that gives them financial security". Maybe that person should have thought of their career prospects when he or she chose that major.

The thing that I am more annoyed with today about our society is the "it is always someone else's fault" mentality. If people looked back honestly on where they are now in life, they could probably find a number of mistakes of their own making that put them in that position. Now, there are always exceptions to every rule and there are people that have been dealt a bad hand, and people that are dealing with genuine hardships. But there are also a lot of people that are just too happy to feel sorry for themselves.

I'm sick of it. Everyday I think of how I can raise my son so that he has a good understanding of the consequences of his own decision. Of how you have to take responsibility. Of how you will make mistakes but you need to own them, learn from them and grow from them. How passing the blame and not accepting responsibility only weakens you as a person.

Please, people, for the love of God, stop looking for others to improve your own personally situation. Take ownership of it, define some clear, well stated goals, and go after them.

Oh and education is too expensive

Where did you go to school BTW perhaps i can prove that point.

I have a 4-year degree from a "New Ivy" league school. I graduated with about the same debt as if I had a loan on a new base-model Chevy Malibu. Education is expensive, but it doesn't have to be.

Oh, and my degree is far from useless. Sure, I hate my job, but it pays me very well. I went a little out of control with spending and am working to get things back in order, but that was no one's fault but my own. I don't expect the gov't, my parents or my neighbor to do anything about it.

Where was the irresponsible spending? Oh and 350 is not much for a car payment thats an under 22K with 10% down

Why the F do you need TWO $22k cars if it's going to put you in the hole $450 a month? You can get something plenty nice and reliable for under $10k - That makes for an ULTRA affordable $7,800 loan if you used the cash on hand you had for that 10% down on the $22k whip. That just put a $400/mo dent in your budget.

There are TONS of jobs out there, it's just that these people have chosen to make themselves unattractive for the positions - Everyone has the right the look as they wish, but body piercings, green hair and tatooed faces don't bode well at the HR department that's going to interview you. Couple that with the total lack of ability to communicate with another human being other than your friends outside of texting or facebook and it's no wonder these people can't find something for more than $7/hour.

If I were laid off today, I could have a job tomorrow running an enterprise rent-a-car store. Glamorous? No, but it'd pay the bills and they would make me a management trainee. There are job fairs in my area once to twice a WEEK. Companies wouldn't be paying to be in these things if they didn't have positions to fill. Hell, my girlfriend was recently laid off and just recently had a VERY promising employer contact HER for a position they want to fill, and she has a "useless" English degree.

Drkside, perhaps those college grads should have thought twice about having a kid before they could afford it.

Life is what you make of it. You choose to do something, you incur the cost.

Why two car payments at 350 each? That's just irresponsible. Ever heard of a used car?

If they need smartphones, then their employers can provide them.

Let's not forget that $1200 apartment.

I'd suggest The Total Money Makeover

Learn to do without a few things.

Not making enough money was a problem when I was young. It is not something new.

I am not sure of the issue you are representing? Should you make more money? Should your rent be lower? Should somebody pay your student loans off. When I was first starting off in life, I lived paycheck to paycheck.

This 99% crap is just that. The ultimate in entitlement expectations. Pathetic!

I'm with Orman1649 on this.

First, I haven't heard a coherent thought or argument from any of the protesters that have been interviewed. 99% of the people at OWS appear to be college students parroting the words of their liberal professors. Period.

Second, my daughter and son-in-law planned their marriage and the birth of their first child. Both have paid off all or most of their student loans and our daughter is back in school for her masters while maintaining a full time job and raising a family.

Third, "can't" was always welcomed with size 11 boot up my arse. I learned to make things happen that seemed impossible because I feared not succeeding as much as I relished in success. One of the words that almost every OWS protester uttered was "can't". There's not enough size 11 boots to fix this entitlement crowd.

I dont want an entitlement - I have never qualified for one, including the non performance based scholarships.
I want a chance, and an opportunity. this economy sucks. I cant even get an interview domestically.
Overseas, I am a rock star, Thank the technology gods for the internet and skype. Without them, I would be a slug out at walmart - the only game in town that is hiring.
we lost another three businesses last week.

Its the economy stupid.
and as bad as this is... it gets worse. The calls for an 'arab' spring and now Jackson wants to hold Congress 'ransom' - these twits are pushing the take over idea hard in their rhetoric.
I didnt think it would come off this cycle, but with the looks of the obo's shot at reelection sinking fast, his croonies know their shiate is cooked.
I was thinking the civil war and revolution would occur when they realign the currency in 2016... it looks like they are jumping the gun ; NOvember - January next year will be very interesting.
makes me wonder if the guy will attempt to resist moving from the house - if they don't hijack and suspend elections all together in a 'state' emergency.

All this OWS business is further reducing 0's chance for re-election as Independents distance themselves from this madness. Unfortunately, he will have a clean, crisp one billion dollar bill to denigrate everyone in sight.

I think a lot of kids got used to hearing... "You can be whatever you want to be when you grow up..." and, while that may be true, you don't just START out living the dream. I'd never, ever, ever just expect something because I "want" it. "Ain't #@!$ free!"

Heh, I wanted to go to the USAFA and become a test pilot and perhaps an astronaut... my vision was too bad. The Army took me though, AND fixed my vision! Gotta start somewhere and work hard for tomorrow. I opted to jump out of airplanes and serve our nation. Now it's time to finish up school and become a private sector.

Cityxslicker,

You aren't the first person that has floated the idea of the Dem's desperation to hold onto power by postponing elections. The fallout frenzy of OWS, if it were to grow, could very well be the catalyst for this. Or for that matter, just about any crisis they could create. It was the NC governor that first publicly said it. It will be interesting to see if the leftist idea gains a foothold.

Drkside79, you should know by now that you're debating with the people that have all the right answers to all the problems in the world. That's why they waste their time here. Their life is perfect and they know how everyone else should behave and that ANY problem in your life is of your own making.
There can be no unforeseen issues and their generation knows all. Funny part is, so did their parents....and their parents......and their parents. Corporations send jobs overseas is YOUR fault because, damn it, you have the gall to demand a living wage. Everyone that is not a Republican/Conservative or Libertarian is a lazy piece of shit. Such hate for your fellow Americans.

I think CityX's words are what OWS is about. Opportunity has deteriorated here. Folks are upset about facing paradigm shifts in their economic expectations (such as low-level employment or working overseas) while they perceive no-consequences business-as-usual in D.C. and Wall Street.

At least this ain't Greece. Let's count our blessings.

You want to talk about "hand-out hypocrisy?" What % of Tea Party gatherings do you think are attended by Social Security & Medicare recipients? I personally know of a few...
