The Apple app store certainly runs a much tighter ship.
For any system, don't run software from untrusted sources.
The differences in what that means is non obvious. For better or worse, I have found I can trust mainstream Linux distributed software and Apple IStore distributed software pretty well without a lot of worry. I could speculate as to why, but it is what it is.
I would lump the Android store software with PC software... I have a lot less "native trust", and have to do a lot more verification.
Either could get you though. Heck, the firmware in your Cisco router or Siemens industrial controller may be trying to kill you right now.
Yep because the iPhone is rock solid and has no exploitable vulnerabilities
I watched a random iPhone get hacked live in a security conference a few years ago. While Apple does its best to protect its users from themselves, nothing and nobody is perfect.

most of the smart phones SUCK AS PHONES
Which is fine, phone usage on the decline anyway. I buy devices that do what I want them to do, and making calls isn't one of them.

I can't believe people are arguing over phones.
Yea I can't believe anyone would discuss something as important and vital to daily existence as $1000 devices. We should argue over other expensive and important things like guns, motorcycles, and healthcare.
Just starting my wife on an iPhone - any advice for best case, screen protector, and any other added farkles useful to its longevity and good functioning?
Funny article there Frank. Some valid criticisms, but as the author himself states, he was expecting perfection. LOL! He backs that up by positing that prior Apple products apparently met that impossible standard. And "perfect" for him is apparently having the phone read his mind and run his life. LOL!
Worse than its failure to understand my words is its failure to understand my meaning. Siri is often quite dumb. Sure, it will do what you tell it. But it doesn't interpret or do nuance, even though that is exactly what Apple promises. The recent abortion flap, for example, seems to be due to Siri's interpretive failures. Granted, I'm not planning on having an abortion anytime soon, but let's talk about hospitals.
In the Siri commercial, a woman asks Siri for the fastest way to a particular hospital. That only works because she tells it exactly where she wants to go. Siri is pretty good when you tell it exactly and explicitly what you want. But move into real world examples and Siri breaks down.
If instead of asking Siri the fastest way to Hospital X, you ask for the fastest way to get to an emergency room, it kicks back a list of all the ones in the area, leaving you bleeding on the floor to decide. Siri provides distances, but it doesn't show travel time (or traffic congestion) in that list. In short, it doesn't show the fastest way at all. I'm bleeding here! It may not be an outright lie, but it's disingenuous enough that I felt deceived when I discovered it. I mean, odds are, if you're asking for the fastest directions to some sort of medical center, it's an emergency. Yeah, the ad is literally true, but also completely false.
"If instead of asking Siri the fastest way to Hospital X, you ask for the fastest way to get to an emergency room, it kicks back a list of all the ones in the area, leaving you bleeding on the floor to decide."
Seriously? He want's to rely upon a phone to choose a hospital for him? "Leaving you bleeding on the floor"? The moron wants to drive himself to the emergency room but cannot be bothered to choose a hospital without being left "bleeding on the floor"? Maybe he is clueless to "Siri, call nine one-one". It's pretty obvious that the author is not an honest man.
The guy is obviously aiming to smear.
"Apple is the company that sells perfection."
Anyone who believes that deserves whatever they get.
I just picked-up a new Samsung 4G LTE Stratosphere phone tonight. I want an iPhone but NOT until they get up to date with the new 4G LTE technology which should be next year sometime. I got my upgrade for free and paid extra for the buy-back program to have Best Buy buy the phone back the next time I want to upgrade so I won't have to wait the full two years for an upgrade.
Verizon failed by NOT getting the new Samsung Nexus or the Droid 4 released this week like they were rumored to do so. Two weeks before Christmas and the two hottest phones have not been released to the public yet! Epic FAIL if you ask me.
