Well I am in a bind. I am in Cosby with my Uly and I just stopped after a nice ride to my friends office and notice my front fork left seal has blown out. This is bad cause it is friday I know I wont be able to get parts and I have to beback home in Alabama Monday.

Will it be ok to ride as long as I take it easy or am I going to have to find a ride back and leave the bike? This is the first time I ha e had this problem so never dealt with it and don't know the time needed to repair. My manual is back home.

Thanks in advance for all help given.
Brian

I used to ride with a guy who had one fork leg completely bone dry.

I think Chad Hargis' Versys only has one shock leg and the other is for show.

I think if you took it easy, you could get it back home.

I had to ride about 300 miles with a blown fork seal a few years ago. Just be aware that you will have less and less dampening and rebound to the point that it gets really rough. And if its on the caliper side be very, very aware that the fork fluid will leak on the rotor and reduce your braking ability!

Well! Now you have a problem I have really recent experience with. I blew out a fork seal on the left side early this summer and because of circumstances I rode it around home for about 500 miles with no problem.

Then due to running short of time to get it done I did not get to change the right side seal while doing the left. On my way to the WVBR V it blew out all over the front rotor. I noticed as I was slowing on an off ramp for a gas stop. No big deal. I just wrapped the bottom of the fork with a paper towel and taped it in place to be a wick that would drip any residual fork oil out to the side. I rode about 650 miles like that before getting home.

Mostly I noticed that upon acceleration the front came up to the top of it's travel easily and sagged back easily but smoothly. It was not a problem to ride. I cornered ok, but not normal. Just don't be aggressive and all will be well. Don't tailgate anyone either, because it will dive a bit.

Oh Yeah, a couple of years ago Wolfridgerider and I were headed to Daytona for the bike races. He blew out a seal near my place. I think he did over 1500 miles with it blown out.

I can tell you the officer who pulled us over for doing 95 on the Interstate did not notice it leaking! He did let us go though.

If things go well I may be coming through Cosby tomorrow or Sunday. Shoot me a PM and I will send you me phone number.

You will be fine, if you take it easy and get it fixed when you can.

Just wrap a napkin around the base put a wire tie around it to secure it so it soaks up the fluid and ride on. Ask Hammer he ran our sussex Scramble like that and that damn ride was a near TT !!!!!!!

HA HA that was an exciting ride, fork oil on the front rotor made things even more interesting

Thanks for the information guys. I went incognito for a bit with phone service. You know up in Cosby, phone service is not good. I did make it back. Had a few worries riding Johns Cove Road and hitting the curves with spots of oil on the tire. But all is good. I did make it back to Montgomery. And I did keep it up around 85 most of the way cause under the vibration would just kill my hand. But It was a great ride. Lots of nice roads up that way. Will be taking many more as I look to relocate some day.

Now time to break out the manual and see what I am getting myself into.

Thanks again.
