If you have not ridden a 250 sumo .... you have no idea the amount of trouble your driving record is in for BUILD IT ! This is the only thing that will keep me off a Ural. |

> A small learner bike doesn't seem to fit with Erik Buell Racing's racing roots nor its current marketing strategy. I'm not completely in agreement with that notion. No. 1 - Only Court knows enough to speculate on this, and we all know he ain't talkin... No. 2 - Everything that the rest of us common folk know about EB has been severely tainted and constrained by the mothership. I'd like a smaller, everyday kind of bike. If he makes a two-fiddy, I would probably rock it. |

"No. 1 - Only Court knows enough to speculate on this, and we all know he ain't talkin..." I disagree. I know enough to speculate. That's why it is called speculation. I don't know jack. Court doesn't have to speculate. He already knows. |

I could picture a moto3 built by Buell. He's good at making light compact things. Imagine if he could choose any 250cc engine he wanted off a rack. Do I think it's actually going to happen? nope. |

"Rotax does not make a 250cc 4 stroke mill. Right?" I had just read in the latest Motorcyclist that BMW is actually OEM'ing their small CC engines from Rotax. I'm not sure how small BMW goes, but the 650's are of the Bavarian flavor. So I was unsure what they were referring to. |

The only existing 250 rotax is a 2-smoke..I'm pretty sure we will not see any of those in a street bike. There however is a sweet 450 single with Erik's name written all over it. What would be cool is a Buell rendition of a Katoom 250 Duke-like bike..It would even be a toobah... |

Why would Erik be constrained to using an existing motor? |

How can a cheaply built learner 250 'round out' a product range when the only other product is a state of the art 160mph sports bike? Isn't there a bit of a glaring gap in the middle of the range somewhere? If they think that someone is going to learn on a 250 single cylinder bike and then progress straight to an 1190 they are being a little irresponsible methinks..... What would make sense if for Erik Buell Racing to make an affordable bike that will sell in numbers rather than a few hadn built exotic bikes costing in excess of $20K. I would think a 600 4 cyl or 650/800 twin (maybe using the Rotax developed BMW 800 unit) would be the ideal bike to accompany the current range rather than a 250 learner hack. But then it probably isn't true anyway |

I was thinking the same exact thing Matt. The reporting is bizarre. |

I think Erik is concentrating on the current 1190 motor at the present time. If he can develop other models using that motor and have time to work on other platforms, like a 250, wow, then he has quite the team. I think he is busy just taking care of the current motor models. |

I like the dirt bike idea, along with the triple. Not sure if it would arrive in V form or inline, but I'm sure whatever they produce it will be worth buying. This just means I'll have to buy one of each so I can build pipes for them all.... |

" Erik Buell Racing is considering making a 250cc " I bet they have considered making a rocket bike too.. Engineers are funny folks, the good ones have brains that go fast and everywhere. I would be surprised if he hasn't thought about it. Do I think he will? Yes but not until he has the other bikes in check. And I bet something in the middle first. |

I think someone misheard 250hp as 250cc. "We wanted to have enough cooling to get to even 230 horsepower." - Erik Buell, refering to the 1190 radiators. |

Has any one checked to see if AM is introducing a 250 spec class? (Message edited by crackhead on October 11, 2011) |
