As one who likes to ride unique, non-UJM bikes and loves low-end torque (120 lb/ft @ 2200)! I was wondering if I should add a Triumph Rocket III to the stable. Curious on their reliability & upkeep costs. I was told the starter motor on those monsters has more torque the a stock 883 Sportster engine! | ||

I have a friend with one and he loves it. He has had it about 2 years and actually done some work on it to make it a little more powerful. He hasnt had any trouble with it to date. | ||

Rode one once. Rolling burnout when I whacked the throttle in THIRD. Big, heavy, and nearly as thick across the tank as a Boss Hoss...but a damn fun bike to ride! (even if it did scare the bejeezus out of me) | ||

R3 owners . net I have always been intrigued by these r3's kinda like a bad car wreck,I have to look. I think the early ones had some 2nd gear problems and something about cam problems,but it seemed like triumph took care of a lot of it | ||

They won't do that in standard trim. They just accelerate very rapidly. They need a bit of clutch work to wheelstand too. They also don't have a clutch that will sustain many burnouts - DAMHIK. They are however the torque king of motorcycles. The new Roadster is the pick of them. | ||

No but that was what I was looking for when I found my Vulcan 2000. Money was an issue and all the Rockets I found were still around 10K. Found my Vulcan for <4500. There was an article a couple of years ago comparing the two together. The rocket had more hp and torque than the Vulcan so it must be a blast to ride because the Vulcan with 125CI is a hoss. | ||

How do the Honda VT1800 monsters compare to the two liter vulcan and the 2.3L triple? Are they even the same sort of animal? | ||

We do typically have dirty roads, so yes Dave...there was likely crap in the way. Still an eye-opener. Especially on a friend's bike and not my own! | ||

It has been my experance that neather of the two mention above can pull with a well tuned V-Rod.( there is a couple in may area) | ||

The Big vees have a real shake and shudder to hammering them. You'd need to spend a lot of money on a V-rod before it will launch like a standard Rocket III. DD You dont read so good there is 3 bikes mentioned I said 2 I have never said a thing about a rocket hell I have never seen one but I have had the oweners of the Vulcan and the Honda. try me. How ever my rod is not full stock I have added a few V and H goodies to her. | ||

Oh OK - wrong 'above'-s. Agree a nicely breathed on V-rod is a potent bit of kit. You'd throw a M109 Suzuki in the mix too. They have got some real mumbo as well. | ||

Not my cuppa tea, but anyone looking at two wheel hot rods might want to take a look at the Ducati Diavel. Does the quarter in the low tens, supposedly handles a lot better than one might expect as well. My local Ducati dealer says he just can't get enough of them.  I don't think I'll be trading my 999S in on one anytime soon, buy hey, maybe I ought to! More age appropriate, isn't it?  | ||

I test rode a Rocket III Roadster (with the pegs - not the floorboard!). It took a few hours to wipe the stupid grin off my face. When you get on the bike, it feels like you're straddling the Queen Mary. The thing is MASSIVE. And then you start out, and realize that your right hand is connected directly to the engines from the Queen Mary. Someone took a huge pot of torque & spilled it all over the power band.  It's an amazingly fun bike. Sadly, I think it's a better American Motorcycle than Harley makes. It's excess, in every way. And that makes it awesome.  |
