I found these holes in my yard,... been finding then for a few weeks...never paid them no mind really... at first they were like divits,.. where in 3-4" grass it looked like a golfball landed in my yard. every once in a while my dog acts strange when I open the deck door for her to go out... she smells the air then runs inside and upstairs. Not sure if it is coincidence ..or a rapid barometric pressure change. links to pics: YARD: http://s1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb387/xdigital xmike/?action=view¤t=2011-09-29_14-07-20_959 .jpg HOLE: http://s1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb387/xdigital xmike/?action=view¤t=2011-09-29_14-07-29_604 .jpg HOLE-Closeup: http://s1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb387/xdigital xmike/?action=view¤t=2011-09-29_14-07-40_520 .jpg |

Looks like maybe a squirrel making a place to bury his treasure. I have 3 of these holes in my yard and watched a squirrel digging one of them. |

Could be a "wonderful little critter" that's called a 13 striped ground squirrel (note the dripping sarcasm). Eliminating them is easy if you want. . .rat trap baited w/ peanut butter works well or my favorite. . .air rifle. Prolific little creatures and they multiply like rabbits.

Yeah, I doubt snake hole. There might be a snake in it, but doubt that a snake made it. |

Snakes don't dig holes. They use existing holes looking for the rodent that made the holes, generally. You could use a snake around the yard right about now. |

yea we got lots of squirrels and rabbits too (although I haven't seen many around lately) and we have chipmunks but dam, I haven't seen any of them either. I am 90% sure I have only seen gray squirrels but I will have to start giving them a closer look. They built a church that took alot of wooded area next to our house. Since then, no more wild turkeys, or deer. |

Grey squirrels dig holes and bury acorns and also dig em up but the hole is only 1/2" deep. |

A friend of mine has holes, and sunken tracks (collapsed tunnels), all over his yard from ground squirrels. Crafty and cute little critters, but the "cute" wears off after they start to cause damage. |

Collapsed tunnels are almost always caused by moles not squirrels. |
