Yesterday I went to Cycle Gear in Little Rock and there was a lifted Toyota Tundra parked in the middle of the motorcycle parking, my buddy parked on his left and I parked on his right, both of us were inside the lines for the motorcycle parking. He was in the parking lot talking to the manager of the store when we pulled in so he saw us park. We go into the store and start B.S.ing with some of the employees at the counter, not even 2 minutes later I hear a loud thud and the guy at the counter says my bike just got knocked over. Sure enough I turn around and my bike is laying on its right side. I had my helmet on the passenger peg so that took the brunt of the fall, and by break lever was bent. The guy paid for me to get a new helmet and replaced the lever. We thought that was the only problem. So we leave Cycle Gear and head down the road it is in the city so it is stop and go traffic. After the second light I noticed that when ever I rolled off the throttle the bike would nose dive. Pretty soon it was really hard to move and there was smoke coming off the front brake, I had about 40 yard till I was able to get safely off the road, as I was pulling over the front break completely locked up and I went down. The damage wasn't to bad. The bike landed on my ankle, the same on that I broke 2 years ago and then sprained this spring. The left blinker broke, the shifter broke, handle bar is bent, rider foot peg broken, passenger foot peg scraped. I called the guy that knocked the bike over and am going to talk to him about replacing some parts on the bike. I think something got damaged in the master cylinder when he knocked it over. Hopefully I get the bike up and going soon. |

Wow that sucks for sure! Did you change the lever at the store? Improperly installed aftermarket levers can cause what happened, but it does sound like the master cylinder malfunctioned. |

You might want a doc to look at your ankle too, just in case you have more problems down the road... you know just to CYA. |

Sorry for the way that turned out, major bummer. What a mess that's going to be determining liability. For sure he was responsible for the tip over damage. I have no idea how it works once I voluntarily take the bike from the scene of the crash and have a latent problem that causes another crash. I'm guessing the second one would be on my insurance... but I am not a lawyer. |

I did have my ankle looked at, just bruised, minor sprain. As for the liability, I am going to call the guy and see what we can come up with, basically all I want is a new rotor, pads and rebuild kit for the mater cylinder and caliper. We will see what happens. |

When the brake lever was bent it might have bent the end of the master cyl. plunger causing it to stick in its bore blocking off the tiny bleed hole. this can cause pressure to build up and cause the scenario you described. |

I had mine fall on it's right side like that once and the brake lever got bound up. It turned out that it actually broke right at the pivot. It had to be disassembled to see the crack though. I would take the pivot bolt out and check it over real good. My new OEM replacement just got rained on for the first time last week. I have rust dust coming out from around the steel adjuster parts now. Looks like HD has gotten cheap on these now. I may have to see about taking these pieces off of my broken lever. The original NEVER showed any sign of rusting. |

Sorry to hear about your woes, one other thing you might check is if the hydraulic line between master & caliper has been damaged & is "valving", preventing pressure being relieved when the lever is released. I must confess the thread title had me thinking about something else entirely..... But I couldn't imagine what you'd want to start a thread about elevators for! ![](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/biggrin.gif) |

Just being up and moving around my ankle is heeling better, can't really rotate on it but I can walk better, not great but better. I talked to the guy that knocked by bike over and he is going to replace the break system. That is good I guess. Now I just need to wait till my MSF check comes in so I can fix the bike. Grumpy wish I had some thing clever for a come back but I don't ![](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/confused.gif) |

The insurance will treat it as two accidents, one from him and one from you. If you ever get into an accident, you absolutely have to get a police report. That is the official record of what happened. If you don't, you play the he-said she-said game (hearsay), which is generally inadmissible. It's a huge CYA as well, especially if the accident was your fault. |

Damn that sucks... at least it sounds like the guy that knocked it over is being pretty stand up about it. |
