This is on my Vulcan but it should be the same for any bike, or newer bike anyway. So I buy this LED running/brake light with 28 LEDs and mount it on the sissy bar. I wire in a three prong trailer plug so I can take it all off if need be. Well the brake lights work but the running lights won't. I took it off, opened it up and nothing wrong there. I wire it up to a spare battery and it all works fine, put it back on the plug and same thing, no running lights. I have power at the plug and at the wire just before it enters the light. What I'm thinking is maybe the bike doesn't recognize the LEDs? The brake light works but maybe the running light wire needs a resistor? I figured with that many it would recognize it but I could be wrong. Anyone familiar with LEDs? RAH777777 are you still here? Any help is appreciated. |

Running lights typically run with either the high or low beam, but not both. Did you try cycling the headlight? I don't see an issue with them being LEDs - the resistance becomes and issue when you have a flasher for blinkers and such. |

Check your ground/negative on the bike. |

I wired it in-line with my factory tail light and it's still working as it always has. I thought about the ground but when I used my test light and volt meter it tested good so I didn't bother grounding the plug separate. Xl1200r that's a good idea, I've always tested it with just the key on and my headlight doesn't come on until I start the bike so I'll see what happens. I think the tail light would be separate from the headlight but you never know. Looks like I've got a project tonight. I know it's minor and the extra brake light is what I am after but it just bothers me when something isn't working and I don't know why. |

That made me chuckle Vern. Ran an extra ground to the plug at lunch and that didn't help. Started it up and toggled the headlight to no avail. I guess I could wire the running light wire into the license plate light which stays on and see what happens. I don't use that light anyway since I moved my plate to the bottom of the fender. |
