The President should go to a race if he's interested in honoring the NASCAR folks. |

Blake, That would be a bad idea. His security detail would ruin the race for a lot of people. |

If he were a fan, they'd welcome him. No politics in the oval, just racing. |

IF some of the comments on that link are accurate, then some of these guys have met him before, some have declined before but were attending this year etc etc Dont get me wrong - I'd love to meet the President, regardless of political views, he is still the leader of the most powerful country on the planet. It'd be quite awesome. But I can see how their careers are probably a lot busier than some of us imagine and they probably did truly have other things going on. Cant fault someone for that. If the President really cared he would offer up the option to come at a later date for those who cant make it. |

Read the white houses basically pissy remarks about those that cant make it. The President is a Employee he has no right to command appearences by private citizens |

I remember when President Obama visited Ramadi once, I know my infantry unit avoided him like the plague. I obviously can't speak for all military members here... I would *be busy* if the President wanted to hang out. I might even question if he should, I don't know, be doing something productive? It seems like the next logical step is to have camera crews start making a "First Family" reality tv show. |

Ken - where are those remarks found at? I would be interested in seeing what they say about those folks Look, I think its cool that the President spends time with sports people and random folk (the drinking beer with the cop and the other guy, i think there was some conflict, cant remember for sure), but theres more imporant things to worry/deal with than some nascar guys not coming to say hello |

I've had a look at a few of the comments on various sites, & if I've got this straight, because they can't/won't go they're somehow unpatriotic, but if they do go they're somehow hypocritical. Sounds like a slow news day. |

There's always some champion sports team parading in and out of the White House. The NASCAR guys are there every year.... so are the Super Bowl champs, NBA, MLB, MLS, Olympians, Little League WS winners, and on and on... The visits are a combination of a perk for the 'winners', political schmoozing, photo op for the press, and tradition. There's always an endless supply of people wanting to visit 'their' home and maybe get a glimpse of POTUS. I don't blame them, but it does get annoying when you're trying to work there. And yes, it is awesome to meet the President(the previous one) in the Oval office, then stroll through the rose garden on the way out. |
