Congressional Reform Act of 2011 Congressional Reform Act of 2011 1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. | ||

Good luck finding ONE person in congress that will sponsor this bill and ANY that agree to it? Not likely. Good idea, but wishful thinking at best | ||

I'd like to see this come about. One thing I have learned in the military... "A great leader is one who leads by example and will never ask you to do something that he/she would not be willing to do for themselves." I wouldn't be surprised to see the new freshman group bring this up eventually. It was after all, a big part of the "Tea Party" ideals. It would need lots of media coverage and citizens would have to get behind the old farts to push them to vote for it. Hopefully they find time for it, I'd be willing to make some phone calls for this. It is, after all, the right thing to do in my opinion and experience. | ||

Can we also repeal the amendment that made Senators popularly elected? That was a HUGE step towards the demise of our Republic. | ||

I just came from a town-hall meeting with our dist rep Chuck Fleischmann who says that his freshman generation in Congress are living by the rules Ft_b stated above. He stated that he pays into SSI and he buys his Blues family health insurances the same way we do, also that he pays for his own retirement policy. | ||

I like. Can we add that Congressman don't get concealed carry permits unless law abiding tax payers in their state can as well? That'll cover Maryland, NY, Cali, NJ and Wisconsin. No more gun rights for me but not for thee BS. | ||

Don't forget about term limits. I think they should be the same for Congress as the President. |
