rat - i agree, but dont forget that he was working/looking into a triple I do hope he sticks with V2 bikes in the future. |

Given his history...I'd be surprised to see Erik bring a non-twin to market. I thought so too until I read a couple of things in the months after the shutdown. One was the news of the 600-ish triple (project name Sugar?) that was in development. The other was an interview with Erik where he mentioned he was already having discussions with his engineers/designers about the future, and he mentioned that they were looking at all engine configurations, not just v-twins. I'll see if I can find the interview. I think the one thing that will be common is fuel-in-frame. How about a 675 V-3? Yep, the "variations on a theme" would be the quickest way too, I would think, but I'm ready for E-B-R to surprise me |

Yes because Erik has never built anything with one or four cylinders |

A triple or four will be several years down the road for economic reasons (Erik Buell Racing needs to make some money to pay for the R&D). A single could be done 1/2 of a 1125 could use a lot of existing tooling. A smaller V twin will be less than 850cc that is where the displacement break is to compete with the 600's. I am ready to go into debt for a sport tourer when ever it shows up. |

Nice point Froggy Found it! The interview was in RoadRacerX (which is now RacerX?), 30 April 2010. That's 15 months ago now, and I guess a lot has changed since this interview (including some sort of deal with Rotax now?), but this bit is interesting: EB: “I’ve been looking at zero-carbon options for years. We have lots of ideas, but the reality is, I don’t know if we’ll do anything right away because I’m not sure we can follow through. A couple of my guys are really working in that area, and I tell them, “We’re free to think but not free to act. We’ve got the ideas, but can we really produce them?” RoadRacerX: So, the next bike Erik designs from scratch will likely have an internal-combustion engine. I was interested in whether or not we should expect that to be a V-twin, and whether it would be designed in-house or be a customer motor. After all, while his first bike was a square-four two-stroke, he’s been in the V-twin business for a long time, with virtually all the motors supplied by Harley-Davidson. EB: “Every engine configuration has strengths and weaknesses,” he said. “It may depend on the market or identity, and it may depend on what’s available. When it comes to motorcycle design, there are so many cool possibilities. Since we broke free, we’ve been thinking about where we’ll go—brainstorming, looking at lots of variables that could be game-changers. We’ve looked at fours, triples, singles, V-fives—looking at how you’d package them. EB: “There are advantages to doing your own motor. For starters, it’s a lot of the cost of the bike, and there’s a good margin in it. If you’re paying a supplier 30 percent [of what you can sell the bike for], that’s a lot to give away. Rotax was good to work with; that motor was ours in a lot of the way it was laid out, but you have a lot more control over it if you’re building it yourself. So it’s easier to totally integrate the motor and chassis. On the other hand, it takes a lot more investment, so most companies start by bringing in a motor and designing a bike around it. EB: “I’m looking forward to doing that in the long run. In the short term, there are lots of 1125s out there, and guys will always be able to bring them to us; that business is viable for years.” Full article: http://web1.hookit.com/members/roadracerxonline/bl og/?resourceId=50d21164-af50-4e8c-b5d1-bc2c2ac7f5a 9 It doesn't say they'll do something different, but I think it does say they won't restrict themselves to the v-twin format. Really it's business as usual - always looking forward |

From the conversations with Erik at Homecoming, I would guess the choice in engine configuration would be whatever makes it lightest. |

I always wanted to see one of the Norton rotary racers in action... I'd read that other racers hated to try a pass due to the blue flames shooting out of the tailpipe! |

Turbo-rotary anyone? I would love to see a properly packaged small displacement turbo motorcycle from the factory... would take quite a bit of engineering prowess to churn out something worth riding |

I don't think so, certainly no more than starting from a a 'clean slate' for any piston powered bike... |

169 hp (I think) at the wheel, but 20+ years ago. Bet it was scary to ride back then. |

I think it would be a great for Erik Buell Racing to have a diverse engine selection to open up to different riders. I do think an I4 would be beneficial for Erik Buell Racing |

I REALLY like the supermono type idea. Rotax has a 50hp 450cc engine RIGHT NOW! I drool!!!! |
