I was on a ride last weekend, and was filming with my gopro. There was a road rage incident. I'd like to show what happened, but there is some VERY bad language. Is that permissible? The young man leading the ride was on an XB. I was in back filming on my 1125R. The rest were on ricers. The incident took place on the way to the curvy backroads while riding in heavy traffic. Maybe a moderator could answer this. I won't post unless I know it is OK.

Is it on youtube? Just post the link and the ones who don't want to watch it don't have too.

It's on my youtube, but I don't want to post the link unless I get the OK. There was a lot of cussing and name calling involved.

Maybe just log in to this board, and post directly to the Backfire Board.

You can then post a link here on this thread for those who are already interested, they'll need to log in to view it as well.

You can't start a new thread in the Backfire board.

I don't think they would have a problem with a link if it's clearly labeled "NSFW - Language". That sort of warning has sufficed many times in the past without causing issues.

I can't speak for all the other moderators, but IMHO it would be fine to post a link to youtube with clear identification that it is a road rage incident and that it has a lot of profanity.

The three criteria I would use are first is it forum related... if you were on a group ride and this happened, then for sure the video is forum related. Next I would ask if it is salacious and gratuitous... so for example filming a porn scene, but on an S1 (ow!), while arguable forum related would not be appropriate, because porn is still porn. Finally, I would want "arms length" segregation. Putting the actual content on Youtube and not here with clear warnings that the content contains a lot of profanity satisfies that as well.

So I think you are fine.

I would caution you on another level though... when I have let myself get caught up in these kinds of emotional issues, they embed in my brain. The more I play them back, the more the anger returns, and the more they "infect" my mind, and I don't want to live from a place of anger and victim hood.

So my advice, at least for the way my brain works, is "don't feed the beast". If there aren't legal reasons to keep it, I would delete every copy and try to avoid thinking or posting about it, and hope your brain forgets it.

Also, the internet has a scary good memory. And everyone involved in this kind of incident is going to look bad. I know I have a lot of incidents in my own life where I thank God they weren't on film, and would hate to have them lingering out on the Internet.

(Not judging you or anyone else regardless of what you do... just stating what I have decided over the years)

I agree with all of Reepicheeps sentiments.

I would add this: what would be the point of posting it? For the most part, those of us on this board are responsible riders, and we desire to promote responsible riding. We never desire to glorify irresponsible behavior. Just keep that in mind as you decide if it makes sense to post it or not.

from Blake's badweb rules of use:

I will not post any content to BadWeB or hyperlinks to other web pages that one would hesitate to expose in the workplace or to family and children. If it is not appropriate for showing on daytime public television or on a public billboard, it is likely not acceptable to post on BadWeatherBikers.com. I will honor this policy and understand that should I fail to do so, I may forfeit my BadWeB posting privileges.

I guess in this case I would ask myself is there something worth sharing in the video, i.e., is there something to be learned. If it's nothing but a couple of people having an argument then there's no point. If on the other hand it developed from a common riding situation where you can learn to avoid turning it into a problem then it would be worth posting. Basically a worth while like with an appropriate warning isn't likely to get any moderator attention even if it is against the strict reading of the rules.

Of course the down side is that when a real jackass gets banned, some like to point out how the rules are ignored for others, blah, blah, blah...

If in doubt send the link to Blake via PM and see what he thinks.

OK, here is the incident that cause the confrontation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXwUa2S6zaY There is no bad language here. Watch the red truck. The group of bikes goes around the slowly moving big truck, and in front of the red truck. The last bike, the XB, surprises the driver of the red truck, as evidenced by the brake lights on the red truck. The driver of the red truck begins laying on the horn and tailgating. When the group is trying to get over to exit, the last rider trying to file over to the right lane gets passed before he leaves the lane. The red truck goes onto the shoulder and misses the last bike by a small margin. He is laying on the horn as he passes. The rider misses the exit, as the truck in his lane has his full attention. We were already exiting as it went down. The XB had plenty of room to go in front of the red truck. I could have sped up and made it. I just figured I could catch up as soon as traffic opened up a bit. I have at least 15 or 20 years on these riders. I was the 'old man' in the group. I was not in as big of a hurry. The rider that went straight and the red truck driver are the only ones that know what happened after they left the camera view. The driver of the red truck told police the rider stopped in the fast lane, and he had to go around him to avoid hitting him. Hmmmmm. They both came rolling into the gas station a few minutes later, and it got pretty ugly. They were both very agitated. I got it all on camera.

Yeah, i didn't see anything wrong with what the riders where doing except he was too slow filing in, but it was also hard to tell if he could have... Other then that, whoever was in the truck was a jackass.

But, if the last rider cut him off close enough to where the truck had to brake hard, well then i understand the frustration of the truck driver. Still no reason to go around him like that.

I have a long and storied history with red pick up trucks. My first and only accident was at the hands of a red truck.

Every negative incident of road rage I've ever had have come with red pick up trucks.

I tend to give them a wide birth. Don't know what it is, but red pick up trucks seem to attract ass holes.

Chadhargis can confirm this. He's seen it in action.

I feel stupid. I watched the unedited version again with a different program, and realized the XB was in front the whole time. He has the yellow helmet. I think that was a Honda that dove in front of the truck, and was the same bike that the truck swerved at. That makes more sense. The pickup driver was mad at him for swerving into the gap.

so side swiping a bike is ok if he cut in front of you?!
if someone, no matter what their driving or riding, is an ass id rather have them in FRONT of me than behind.

Not to hijack this thread but this is a video that came up at the end of one of the videos above. Has nothing to do with this thread but I thought it was crazy and I never heard a whisper of this before watching this video. Warning: The video is a graphic and tragic incident that is just plain F'ed up. Susan Smith kind of f'ed up.

I have a red pick up...

I don't understand why people get so angry. If somebody accidentally cuts you off it's an accident. I've cut people off before and so has most everybody else at least once. Try to do the i'm sorry my bad wave and keep going. What craCKS ME UP IS WHEN SOMEBODY gets cut off then they cut of three people and tail gait another to give hime the bird and yell at him. At least the first one wasn't on perpose..

I take it that nobody got the tag number of the truck?

It looked to me like there was PLENTY of room in front of that red pickup and it should have been obvious that he was trying to stay with his group of riders. He probably sped up to keep you from trying to go around him. And I'd say he already had a 'thing' against bikes going into it.

I got the tag number. The guy followed us to a gas station and had a confrontation with the rider he swerved at. I got that all on camera too. That is where the language is bad, very bad.
