Day of Rage in NY

In the wake of Britain 's riots, a group of American radicals are planning a "Day of Rage" targeting Wall Street and U.S. capitalism.

The upcoming protests, replete with a planned tent city in downtown Manhattan , is closely tied to the founders of ACORN and leaders of major U.S. unions, including the Service Employees International Union, or SEIU.

There are indications the protesters are training to incite violence, resist arrest and disrupt the legal system.
The protest aims to take root nationwide.

Activists are advertising on social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter for a "Day of Rage" on Sept. 17 to begin with the "occupation" of Wall Street and continue with protests across the nation.

This sounds crazy. I clicked through the website, but didn't find anything about ACORN, SEIU or any other U.S. unions, or training to incite violence, resist arrest and disrupt the legal system. Where did you see those bits?

Actually, it's Al Gore's "American Spring."

I got it from a Scot, as reported overseas.

Interesting stuff. I searched "Day of Rage" and "American Spring". They would appear to be one in the same however there were many contradictions. One calls for all to contribute to the tax burden, including the 50% of the working population who pay no taxes at all. In the same story they also called for a stop to entitlement reform and the "assault" on collective bargaining rights. They are also calling for a huge scale down of our military to prevent austerity measures. In several reports and op-eds they called this a counter movement to the Tea Party. It's clear that they all have distanced themselves from official affiliation with any union or organization but instead have listed several "new" organizations to hide under. It is definitely forming from the radical left and they keep comparing themselves to movements happening in many socialist countries around the world. None of those protests were "non-violent" as they are billing their own.

Well, Al Gore has been giving lip service to the "American Spring." Guess he saw nothing wrong in the Arab one.

If they had any balls, they'd have their protest in DFW.

My guess, though, is that if it turns violent, the death toll will be much higher.

Wait for the declaration of Martial Law. The internment camps will be green lighted. In order to restore order, owners of firearms will be required to relinquish their arms or be "detained".

Be funny (in a bad way) if this is what all those "US concentration camps" have been set up for, and it's actually agents of the Fed that are organizing the protest. Not really hard to imagine... the idea isn't even as complex as most movie plots nowadays.

Is that a breeze of Resilience blowing out of the Capital and Wall Street?

This is the stench of what I was talking about coming.

I thought they would wait to destabilize events until the next election- they must be thinking their guy aint winning this one, and are hoping to debase the vote a cycle early.
I never liked Gore- he is indeed inconvenient

Cityxslicker,

Here's the progressive pipe dream run amuck. I'll bet it really pained the NYT to have to publish this report. They're boo-hooing over the fact that Cap-n-Trade hasn't passed to artificially create a viable market for green jobs. Maybe this is why Gore lost his cookies the other day calling bullshit on all the global warming naysayers. The real root of his anger probably lies within all the investments he's made in these companies are crashing.

The sad thing is that these retards will loot businesses taking items to which they are "entitled" not understanding that they are worthless feral baboons of their own design resulting in their inability to earn the money to purchase these very same goods.

There is no "man". Nothing is holding you down.

Stop listening to Rage Against the Machine.

The Day of Rage will help the next Republican Presidential nominee. Middle America has a vast reserve of patience but it is not infinite and the Looters and Moochers that we are witnessing in Europe will surface here showing their disdain for America.

Wowsas, the term "Looter and Moocher" doesn't seem like fiction anymore, does it?

Those singing flashmobs started the idea, maybe they were really just rehearsals. The current violent flash mobs (phila and elsewhere) may just get more sophisticated in what/where/when they commit to. Seems like they come and go every year... but some will eventually get wiser and see what they and technology can really do together. (I mean, get away with)

There is a more recent, darker iteration of the flash mob, the flash loot.

Several people (like 300+) agree to meet at a particular location and begin looting the business.

By the time the police show up, the store is emptied and the perpetrators are gone.

Wonder what they delay time is between the inception of the event and when the Feds throw the kill switch on the internet?

The real issue is going to be will the Feds have the ability to only kill the mobile network or will they have to go dark on all internet communications? Could be a very distressing day on wall street when all market communications stop.

Whatever messages these protests are trying to get across, I see an excuse for people to loot, burn and destroy their own neighborhoods, including innocent people's shops and homes. When did free speech translate into being scumbag hoodlums?

Cell phones, and the twit, and the interwebs are all licensed from the gov, the FCC, and the DHS, can and will flip the switch.

Its called EMCON - you totally deny the enemy their right to communication, by destroying the towers, turning off the repeaters, jaming the signal, running packet dumps to crash networks. There is No Such Agency that would ever viable crash and kill the phone and interwebs.... They happen to be located at Ft Meade - and they would do it in a cold minute.

remember your cell phone is essentially a FCC compliant 'radio' you operate and transmit at their complacent entertainment.

And during the Egyptian spring event, the notion of a kill button was more than just rhetoric, it is a very big denial of service hack waiting to happen.

get your CB and HAM now ... if you dont already.

or more darkly, you spoof the account, call for a mob at X location.... and they show up to arrest, detention, guns..... DAMHIK

Already happened. I forget where (I can find out) but there was a flash mob scheduled for a mass transit line. Guess what... the cell tower was powered by a feed controlled by said mass transit line. They pulled the plug, the tower went dark, and the flash mob lost all command and control. But so did everyone else...

A bad problem with bad solutions and a lot of innocent victims paying the price for a few greedy and petulant A$$%^%$$#.

Funny the Mayor of Philly was being blasted for chastising the "hoodlums" telling the young men of a specific community to clean up their act,
The activist who in essence agreed with the mayors talking points, had issue because the Flash mob/lootings were effecting a tourist area, but he did not so strongly speak out when the incidents were in a near by poor area.

I have to wonder..

Frankly that kind of crime justifies the government doing exactly what City is describing, Looting and Vandalism are crime and the criminals should be caught and punished.

I wonder what'll happen when the "occupy Wall Street" folks morph into a "I'm gettin' mine" mob and start spilling into the outer areas.

I wonder how many "unofficial" fire arms will come out of the wood works. I can't imagine ANY store owner in NYC standing by and letting folks just destroy the store. The body count is going to be frightening.

That body count will cause people to grant the government overarching power to trample the rights of everyone else. By the time we the people figure it out, it's too late.

If they want to head this off at the pass, I suggest an overwhelming police presence in full riot gear waiting for the protesters to set up their tents. If they can keep it from becoming violent and feral, there is a chance to head it off.

a lot of innocent victims paying the price for a few greedy and petulant A$$%^%$$#.

Reep, I think blocking the cell service for a certain area for a certain amount of time is a very light price to pay vs having 2-3 or more innocent victims waking up in the hospital. The people that it happened to so far,.. never knew what hit hit them until they woke up in the hospital.

Block it. Make service announcement over the intercom if possible. By the time the hoodlums gather back together the police will have as well and also may have been watching on their surveillance cameras if they have them.
