The Promoter's Office called me to tell me that my tickets will be refunded. The very nice lady on the phone also told me that they plan to hold the Mile next year. I was looking forward to seeing the Mile as much as if not more than the Moto GP. However, my disappointment is nothing compared to the pain felt by someone whose loved one died when the staging collapsed. I hope the Investigation brings enough information to the surface to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. |

Yeah, it was a horrible tragedy! The wife and I were at the fair just a few hours earlier in the day and couldn't believe what we were seeing on the nightly news! But hopefully the speedway will bring back moto gp for many years to come! I saw it as a good sign when they showed Nicky Hayden running practice laps on a Newly surfaced track a few months back! All of the complaints about the rough track was heard! High hopes gp will be back along with the mile! Im actually excited to hear and see the Hd's out there! Josh Mc Williams was commenting about how well they handle, "even though their not supposed to" lol! |

Yes,certainly a tragedy. Don't paint me cold, but what problem is the "investigation" going to solve? The wind blew it over. Shit happens. Clear the scrap metal, pay off the lawsuits and move on. The fix is not going to stop the next freak tragedy from coming about.......that the infrastructure wasn't designed/planned for. |

It was an Act of God sort of thing. Those things are not really planned. |

I was at a bicycle race about 1/2 mile from the fairgrounds that night. The sky started to darken and then all at once we had a micro burst that just about blew us over. The racers were hit with trash cans, race tents and things were flying everywhere. It had to be at least a 70 MPH gust. It blew hard for about 30 seconds and then diminished to more regular winds. Fortunately none of the racers were hurt. I would not expect the temporary stage to be designed for such a high instantaneous wind gust. But nowadays we must design for every foreseeable event or there is negligence. It is ashamed that the mile race will now be replaced with a race for law suits. Somebody has to be at fault. There is money to be made! I heard the attorney for the first two lawsuits exclaiming it was a foreseeable accident that could have been prevented. |

I was at the BMW National Rally in West Virginia several years back when I experienced my first micro burst. I had NO idea what was happening (we don't get those here on Long Island). Just like that, tents were ripped up from the rally site and dumped in the river (one person's dog was in the tent when it flew away). We made the national news because the beer tent got torn down and several people were hospitalized. Then, just like that, it was gone. Amazing how much destruction that short burst of weather accomplished. |
