I won't knock him. Time will tell what comes of it. He may or may not become Prez, but I bet God uses this to open some people's eyes, including his. God could've told him to do it just for that reason. Who knows at this point. Or he could've gotten it completely wrong. If he loves God, God will make good come out of it either way : ).

I was GIVEN a DREAM that THC in Marijuana was THE most POWERFUL incredible medicine and cure for Cancer and several diseases. I have a plan that requires Americans to UNIFY and come together as ONE in PEACE and LOVE while restoring our countries Democracy and confidence which has been JEOPARDIZED.

I am either going to carry this idea to someone more qualified or you may see an AMA-PRO Superbike racer as the next President of the United States of America

+1 Notpurples2 ... it would seem this year god has been exceptionally busy in American politics ; )...

Would you really want to have a guy in charge of the country talking to an invisible friend for advice instead of his cabinet and advisers?

yikes...

I mean we're talking about people's lives, our country, our military, our laws etc... We need somebody in there who can actually think for themselves, find and implement solutions and have the political moxy to figure out how to make those ideas get through congress.

Just because some twit goes to church once in a while and proclaims 'god said so' doesn't qualify one for office (it should exclude them based on mental infirmity due to hearing voices) ....

Regardless of your religion or beliefs please make sure you vote for the good of the country, not the church...

This latest trend of political tactics has me worried and if you are religious you should probably be offended. You know they are exploiting the christian population just to get their votes, they'll say whatever they have to say as they always do...

Yeah, all those nut-jobs that believe in God are ruining this country. Good thing our founding fathers didn't....oh wait:

Thomas Jefferson
1781 — Notes on the State of Virginia, Query 18
Category: God

And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever.

Reference: Our Sacred Honor, Bennett (352)

James Madison
1785 — A Memorial and Remonstrance
Category: God

It is the duty of every man to render to the Creator such homage, and such only, as he believes to be acceptable to him. This duty is precedent both in order of time and degree of obligation, to the claims of Civil Society. Before any man can be considered as a member of Civil Society, he must be considered as a subject of the Governor of the Universe.

Reference: Our Sacred Honor, Bennett (327)

Benjamin Franklin
1787 — Motion for Prayers in the Constitutional Convention
Category: God

I have lived, Sir, a long time; and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this Truth, that God governs in the Affairs of Men. And if a Sparrow cannot fall to the Ground without his Notice, is it probable that an Empire can rise without his Aid?

Reference: Franklin: Collected Works, Lemay, ed. (1138)

James Madison
1825 — letter to Frederick Beasley
Category: God

The belief in a God All Powerful wise and good, is so essential to the moral order of the world and to the happiness of man, that arguments which enforce it cannot be drawn from too many sources nor adapted with too much solicitude to the different characters and capacities impressed with it.

Reference: Writings of Madison, Hunt, ed., vol. 9 (230)

James Wilson
1793 — Chisholm v. Georgia
Category: God

A State, I cheerfully admit, is the noblest work of Man: But Man, himself, free and honest, is, I speak as to this world, the noblest work of God....

Reference: 2 U.S. 419 (1793)

Benjamin Franklin
1787 — Motion for Prayers in the Constitutional Convention
Category: God

And have we now forgotten that powerful Friend? or do we imagine we no longer need its assistance? I have lived, Sir, a long time; and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this Truth, that God governs in the Affairs of Men. And if a Sparrow cannot fall to the Ground without his Notice, is it probable that an Empire can rise without his Aid?

Reference: Franklin Collected Works, Lemay, ed., 1138.

John Adams
1776 — Thoughts on Government
Category: God

It is the duty of all men in society, publicly, and at stated seasons, to worship the SUPREME BEING, the great Creator and Preserver of the universe. And no subject shall be hurt, molested, or restrained, in his person, liberty, or estate, for worshipping GOD in the manner most agreeable to the dictates of his own conscience; or for his religious profession or sentiments; provided he doth not disturb the public peace, or obstruct others in their religious worship.

Reference: The Works of John Adams, Charles Adams, ed., 221.

Alexander Hamilton

Category: God

To grant that there is a supreme intelligence who rules the world and has established laws to regulate the actions of his creatures; and still to assert that man, in a state of nature, may be considered as perfectly free from all restraints of law and government, appears to a common understanding altogether irreconcilable. Good and wise men, in all ages, have embraced a very dissimilar theory. They have supposed that the deity, from the relations we stand in to himself and to each other, has constituted an eternal and immutable law, which is indispensably obligatory upon all mankind, prior to any human institution whatever. This is what is called the law of nature....Upon this law depend the natural rights of mankind.

George Washington
1783 — circular letter of farewell to the Army
Category: God

I now make it my earnest prayer, that God would have you, and the State over which you preside, in his holy protection, that he would incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government, to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow Citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the Field, and finally, that he would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all, to do Justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility and pacific temper of mind, which were the Characteristicks of the Divine Author of our blessed Religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to be a happy Nation.

Reference: George Washington: A Collection, W.B. Allen, ed. (249)

George Washington
1789 — Thanksgiving Proclamation
Category: God

It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favors.

Reference: George Washington: A Collection, W.B. Allen, ed. (543)

George Washington
1790 — letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport
Category: God

May the father of all mercies scatter light, and not darkness, upon our paths, and make us in all our several vocations useful here, and in His own due time and way everlastingly happy.

Why is it that when somebody claims that their own "god" is telling them to do something, it is ALWAYS immediately accepted as spoken.

MOST folks who invoke the divine are entirely serious but JRP? Surely you are joking.

Is his god more powerful than Bachman's? Than Perry's? Which one gets my vote, which one is a vote against God?

(deliberately avoiding capitalizing except where warranted)

I can just offer my own opinion, as someone who does believe God has told me to do things from time to time...

I treat a message from God like any other highly noise prone communication channel. I ask for repeats, I read it back and ask for confirmation, I ask others on the channel to confirm, I weigh it against what I know the larger mission to be, and if there is any doubt I wait until I can get good confirmation. In the end it is a judgement call, and I always identify it as such when I act on it and run the mission accordingly (always taking into account the built in assumptions I may be wrong).

I also treat it very skeptically, proportional to what I know my biases to already be.

I realize this all sounds a little crazy, but it's a highly intuitive thing. I don't need anyone else to believe God talks to me or anyone else, and I will state for a fact it shouldn't be proven or disproven objectively (I suspect it is a literal version of the Hiesenburg uncertainty principal).

In general, I know when it tells me to do something I want to do but shouldn't, that it's just me, and I'm (like JRP in this case) just full of $%(% again. : )

Seeking God is the beginning of wisdom.
The so called scientists that dont beleive in god for got most of the scientific method and many early discoverys were made by priests.
Just got back from a a ride along the ocean nice day. Only traffic issue is a guy in a Avalon Convertible. weaving passing on double yellows basically being a jerk in a nice leasuirely flow of traffic. when he finally passed me after riding 5ft behind me for miles trying to pass I saw the sign on the back of his car. It said treasure coast humanist society, when we were side by side on the next 4 lane section I saw the same sign on the door Couldnt help it I started laughing so loud he could hear me over the bike and full face helmet. He asked whats so funny I asked you dont believe in God? No thats just crazy! Well I dont think you will meet God But Your on a certain path to spend some quality time with Satan LOL I rode off still laughing. He sat at the light till horns started beeping a good 20 seconds after I left

Carlos Castaneda also knew god and like Johnny Rock Page, he was "spoken to" while under the influence (though in Castaneda's case it was peyote, JRP used marijuana)

http://peyote.com/carlos-castaneda/index.html

This was on our required reading list in our physiological psychology class... back in the day. I had some early college experiences with peyote and mescaline (WTF, it was the early 70s!) - and while I did hear and see things, I guess I needed more of a guide on the order of Castaneda's "Don Juan" to know the true word.

Kenm123t I must vehemently disagree, priests haven't discovered squat. That statement is just laughable.

As a matter of fact one can prove that religion halts intellectual pursuits. Most of the stars are named with Arabic names, why?, well Baghdad used to be the intellectual center of the world and thus the majority of scientific discoveries at that time came out of that region and were given those names. At one point a strict Muslim cleric/imam 'interpreted' the quran and stated that to work with numbers was the work of satan and scientific progress stopped pretty much immediately.

Then followed a great decline of the region. Now it has had some prosperity return over the ages but yet no scientific achievements or discoveries. Why didn't the discovery return with the return of prosperity? Their religion forbid it, period...

Mankind can only flourish when the shackles of superstitious nonsensical religious beliefs are shed.

Dave the less you post the more learned you appear. Your lack of knowledge of scientific history is showing. The tragedy of your posting is your promoting the same intolerance of you purport to discredit.
Your reference to Islams limitations are have merit However you totally ignore the reason for their current prosperity. The oil profits from the west are the only reason for the current wealth in the mideast. We should have followed Roddenberrys prime directive and not given advanced technology to barbarians.
You also left out any references to the Early researchers and Scientists who were for the most part Jesuits. I ll bet you havent read Darwin's Origin of Species all the way through PC quotes do not count. Its still called a theory found that elusive missing link yet?. Read a little about the human Genome project all that data on human DNA and still no link to the apes.
CERN is trying to find the GOD particle and other than blowing up a Huge Collider nothing yet. Digging deeper we find ever smaller particles and have found out observing them has the effect of giving them a predictable order where kinda sneaking up on the process reveals chaos.
Evolutionary theory has become PC any other opinion is ridiculed. When rational thought and spirited debate is restricted you can be sure some one has an agenda of their own.
To keep this simple comtemplate this
Wise is the man that seeks God.
Islamic intolerance is based in Prophet worship not in seeking God. You have reinforced my postion thank you.

>>> Kenm123t I must vehemently disagree, priests haven't discovered squat. That statement is just laughable.

Your ignorance is showing again.

Seek truth, whatever it may be.

Far worse than any religion have been power-greedy political movements. But they don't tell the truth about their history in any kind of collection of literature like a bible. They lie and try to hide it.
