Because reality is fun, I thought I'd point out that the Secret Service bought two of these buses so that they'd have one for Obama, Biden, the First Family, etc. and one for the Republican Candidate in the upcoming election. They paid a Tennessee company 1.1 million per bus. Previously, they had no buses in the Secret Service fleet. When bus tours occurred (which have happened regularly over the last 35 years or so), they rented a standard bus, upfited it with armor, then took all the armor off when they were done to return the vehicle. The cost of doing so ran in he tens of thousands per month. Sorry I didn't put that information in a song. | ||

I'm missing some info on this - if anyone knows about this stuff, can you please fill me in on: Who makes tour buses in the US? This site: http://www.motorbussociety.org/links/mfrs.html has an interesting list - did the secret service send out any RFP's? Are the Canadian buses a better product, or inferior? Are the Canadian buses less expensive? If they are less expensive but not inferior, should we subsidize a US bus manufacturer? | ||

Bachman and Palin (and likely others) use Prevost buses which are made in Canadian by Volvo. Pres. Bush also had a Prevost bus back in 2004. I too wish he would have picked an American made bus but considering the modifications that needed to be made it might not have been feasible. All information points to the modifications being done here in the US. So at the very least the money for that (which could be as much or more than the cost of the buses) stayed at home. It's just sad how even this is spun to demonize the president. When in reality they are most likely saving money in the long run by buying these buses rather than having to rent them and modify and then un-modify every 4 years. If I were the CIC... I would have signed a Buffalo over from a unit that didn't need it for a few months, like a mod 1 or 2... made sure the PMCS was up to date, rattled canned a slogan on the side and called it a day. That thing is big enough to be a bus, heck add some roll on window tint from a local Wal-Mart, a CB radio and satellite dish... and you got yourself an armored transport with A/C and a V-Shaped hull... plus, I hear it is/was a transformer in the movie anyways. | ||

It is sad. This attitude is what's driven a lot of people away from Badweb. I don't like Obama. I didn't vote for him, and won't vote to re-elect him. However, he is our president. I don't believe he's even 10% the enslaving tyrant that he is portrayed to be on this forum. I don't see, nor have I heard anything from him that has "Demonized" us (Uh; who are "us" anyhow?). I mean, it's not like he lied to the American people, Congress, the United Nations, and the rest of the world about how he had "Positive Proof" that a dictator of a foreign country was developing stockpiles of Weapons of Mass Destruction; and used that as an excuse to invade a country that was no threat to us whatsoever. Now that would be something to get pissed off about. | ||

I wouldn't say it isn't true - I'd say it doesn't go deep enough. You have to go farther back, to when the CIA put Saddam Hussein in power, or later, during the Reagan years, when Rumsfeld was hired as a special envoy to Iraq to improve relations and make sure Iraq had all the weapons it needed to defeat Iran (including approving chemical and biological weapons material, that we knew at the time he was using against Iranians and Kurds.... but somehow, it was convenient at the time not to be too concerned over Saddam's possession and use of WMD.... hmmm). http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/12/31/world/ma in534798.shtml and just for fun: | ||

Being wrong isn't lying. Saddam actively supported terrorist attacks. He had and used chemical weapons, and could not account for their destruction. He was intentionally trying to appear to the world as if he had these weapons in order to keep Iran at bay. The only liars in this debacle were the Iraqis. We have intercepts of his scientists confirming to him that they were cranking out chemical weapons. We know now that they were lying in order to save themselves from Saddam's wrath. Saddam could continue to put on this show for the Iranians because he 'knew' that the US would never invade. He was shocked when we did because France (could have been Germany, I don't remember) had told him flat out that they would never authorize UN action, and would use their veto vote to make sure it never did. This has been debated to death on this forum. I know you're relatively new here. There are tons of posts with links to news articles and UN weapons inspection reports that will corroborate everything I just said. Some (not you) won't look at the evidence, but would rather continue to believe a falsehood because it suits their preconception that Bush is the devil. | ||

In all fairness to Prevost, they assemble/build the chassis, body and drivetrain. Other companies (most likely US based) then convert them into custom motorcoaches (after $1 million it's no longer a motorhome). |
