Over the years, I've used Dunlops, Michelins, Avons, Pirellis, Metzelers and Continentals. I liked the way the Conti Force tires stuck and felt, but the rear didn't last as long as I like, so I'm going to try the Conti Motions. I have a friend who swears by the Road Attacks. What do you consider a really good tire for your riding style?
I've been running PP2cts, but have been reading reviews and personal experiences on the Dunlop Sportmax Q2's. Supposedly they are the shit for hard street riding with your trackdays thrown in there. The Q2 will be my next tire.
Kind of hard to say, isn't it? I mean, when the Uly first came out, everybody was shitting all over the D616 Dunlops. I never had a problem with them, but a lot of people were quite vocal in denouncing them. Now there are a lot of people who really prefer them over any other tire. Then again, I had Avon AV45&46 Azaros on my M2, and loved them. When I put a set on my Uly, I thought they sucked. So, sometimes, it's the bike, sometimes it's the rider; and sometimes, there are differences between different manufacturing runs of the same tire. As I said, I'm pretty happy with the Conti Force tires except for the short life. I hope the Conti Motions feel as good; especially in the wet. A lot of people like the PR3s. How do they last?
I ran Pirelli Corsa III for the first two sets. Went to Q2 for the third set...they stick like glue except they don't at all like Florida road stripe paint. They wore out in 2500 miles.
Went to the old standby Pilot Powers...very good tire...stick well all the way to the very edge. The profile gives very good turn in. And they are cheap
Crusty, I only have 4k on my PR3s so far but the wear is almost un noticable. Im putting another 1000 or so on next week so I guess I should be getting to the point where I can tell. On my 2cts (which I loved btw) I could get around 8k but in all honesty the last 1000 miles or so was just pushing it. I can clearly see that the PR3 will far surpass that and I honestly cannot tell the difference in the corners. In the rain however the PR3 is signifigantly better.
I had real good luck with Michelin Pilot Road 2's on Lil' Blackie, my XB12SR special: excellent handling, good wear.
Now I am using Michelin Pilot Pures on my Ducati Triple Nine S. Simply a great handling tire, and the light weight was certainly noticeable when changing from Pilot Powers: easier turn in, precise steering, great traction.
I have gotten my baby back. Took off the Shinko Ravens and replaced them with a set of the Michlen Pilot Road 3. I am now back to the stable Uly I had loved. No more Shinko tires for me cheep or not.
After a good hard 350 miles today, I found my front Q2 with around 3k miles on it has several tiny splits in the rubber...like the rubber is tearing apart...wierd...I do brake hard, I will admit, especially when I am on familiar roads. Proper air pressure, etc, etc.
I just ordered a new Pilot Power to replace it with. Will go well with the PP rear I have on with less than 600 miles on it......now if I can just figure out how to turn off the nail magnet...
ahh good choice my friend, i do not understand how everyone i talk to gets nails in tires.. ( now i said that i will get two flats tomorrow) i hope not
