Every batch is triple-distilled in very small batches, made from corn and born in a copper still. The real deal and they paid taxes too!
Midnight Moon is just like "keeping whiskey." It does not have the harsh, heavy corn taste people often associate with illegal moonshine. Most folks back home (that I have only heard stories of) keep the good stuff and sell/give away the inferior or single pass "selling whiskey."
Info about the fruity shine and "fresh whiskey" store bought beverages can be found @
If you read the Book "Chasing the White Dog" there is some info on how the Colorado whiskey got started.Good story.I have always wanted to try a taste. And speaking of moonshine,it's all in the "cuts".Hangover or no hangover...smooth or harsh. The hearts is where its at!!!!!!!!
Barker, I spent a TON of time in the Madison area for work, but still haven't been to that distillery. I need to get there one of these days- their stuff is good! What town did you grow up in? Prior
Prefer a Speyside single malt myself, the west coast stuff is too peaty & smoky for my taste. Currently working on a 12yr Cardhu. Favourite is probably Aberlour or Knockando.
I have to confess I can't stand Bourbon, it stinks like aftershave to me.
Another way to make I happy is with some Calvados. Mmmmmm apples.
Rat and Bluzm2- Try a Highlandpark, you get the best of both the smokie/peat with a nice rich smooth after taste. Try it first neat, then with just a touch of water and then, yes I dare say, add 2-3 ice cubes and the flavors will change.
Hahahaaaa... good ole Popcorn. Rest his soul, he wouldn't let the revenooers take him.
Somewhere out there is a documentary of Popcorn actually building his last still, producing the hooch, and then dismantling it. It was about 30 minutes IIRC, on a PBS station, actually very cool, very moving. I think I taped it, but can't remember which tape I used.
Just_ziptab, When I seen the title of the thread Popcorn Sutton was the first thing I thought of. Went to cut and paste the link and seen you had already been there. Good call!
Popcorn Sutton......most interesting thing I've seen in a while. Gotta admire an old cuss that lives like that! 30 years ago,I met the last free world flathead trapper. Pretty much the next generation Jim Bridger of mountain men/trapper/traders. Talked just like Sutton.Listened to his stories around a camp fire for hours. There will be no more like them..........:-(
This is a picture of the stills Sutton got busted with. Makes his above video in the woods kind of "small time". 1,000,750 and 500 gallon stills....plus 800 gallons of shine in an old bus. Gave him 18 months jail time. Seems very lenient, but Sutton couldn't do jail time so he took a nap in his car with the engine running. With that kind of production,he should have been very rich, even if it was at a give away price of ten bucks a jar. Gotta wonder where the money went? His daughter is a FB friend and is an interesting/wildcat girl....
