O.K., Here's some questions for the Political Proselytizers. Do you do anything real to promote your political beliefs? Do you contribute money to your preferred political party? Do you volunteer to help your favorite political candidate? Do you buy plates for fundraising dinners? Are you willing to run for office? Do you even e-mail your Representative, Congressman or Senator expressing your views, and getting their views on a subject? Do you do anything positive toward realizing your political beliefs? Or do you just indulge in mental masturbation on a motorcycle forum?
Just my experience, people that like to talk politics do so because they are active in them.
Personally, I've done most of the above. No fundraisers. I've actually been tossing around the idea of running for election, but no idea for what. What does a textile designer run for?
>>> Or do you just indulge in mental masturbation on a motorcycle forum?
I enjoy debate and have learned a LOT from it. I don't get anything like an orgasm from it though.
Why are you averse to debate John? I don't get it, at all. Is it because some of your own personal views are being challenged more than supported, or just that you don't like non-moto topic on BadWeB?
To answer your questions, on account of I like you and so am happy to do so...
I contribute to and correspond with my representatives.
Again, I think that setting out opinion bolstered with information in debate is important to learning truth. You sure don't get it from the media.
Check out Media Malpractice a nice documentary on the malfeasance of the media in failing to adequately vet Barack Obama while tearing Sarah Palin to shreds.
I wouldnt happen to know any thing about military leadership. I only joined when I was 16. Been in charge for mission planning, briefing and risk mitigation for 200 combat flights, countless patrols, and had the final say of go no go for a squadron of A-6's. I wouldnt know anything about intelligence collections, interrogations, and investigations of ethnic clensing and war crimes having had been deployed for translation and inspection to E. Europe four separate times, each over 18o days. I wouldnt know anything about leadership; though ask around the board about passing SERE, and surviving the Quigley for OCS for the Marine Corps out Quantico, nor the 72 hour evolution of the Crucible. I wouldnt happen to know anything of world events with a degree in International Studies, a language and critical analysis of Soviet Purges, the NEP and Soviet involvement and tactics in Afghanistan. I also wouldnt know anything about the coming cr@p under the guise of Healthcare- having READ the entire bill (it is more than your legislator that signed it did) or the critical 12 papers I wrote on the bill. I bet you think is it about donut hole benefits for seniors ;') My role has been, for that past 15 years, breifing, collection, assessment, and mission planning for men, material, assets, armament and funds in areas of conflict, and areas of Black Budgets where we 'werent'. You can believe what ever the hell you want. Me, I have weapons, ammo, supplies, prepositioned locally and overseas. I know their tactics, I know their goals, and quite frankly if you think a political elected position or a dinner plate contribution is the solution - WHEN the GOVERNMENT is the one prepping for the clensing- you arent paying attention.
and it aint the end of the world, it is just the end of what you thought America was. (I did however appreciate the uptick in funds to my portfolio for Y2k, and the coming 2012 'apocolypse')
The solution is, and always has been, self reliance, self independence, self rule - NOT an overimposed, sprawling, intrusive, and everencroaching government. Or did you forget the concepts of our original American Revolution.
If you want to know what the enemy is up to, you had better at least read their press releases and know their 'supporting' literature. go read original sources. Make up your own mind - or you could wait for a community organizer to tell you everything is fine.
Back on topic... My family only has to go back two generations to where they lived it. I've seen zero evidence that supports the idea that it will never happen again. I've seen lots of evidence that history tends to repeat itself. I wouldn't say I'm paranoid, but I am pretty aware that this chit is real.
The Looter's response to what she was doing was to say, "I'm getting my taxes back". This mentality is not isolated to England. It is coming here. Or rather, it is already here.
I saw some news coverage last night. On one block, every store had been broken into and looted. Except for a bookstore. It was in pristine condition. Says a lot right there.
This is the typical reaction of the Left when they have conclusively lost the war of ideas.
Who says I am a lefty. I'm neither. I listen to ideas and decide. I don't blindly follow one party or another like most here.
The only one I see who has lost is those that didn't answer Crusty's or my questions. What have you done? Crusty has a nice list. And much like all other political BS some one posts something to change the subject. So are you bettering your community or blaming someone else?
I guess your time is spent bitching about things, that's a start I guess...
What I do or don't do is none of your business and is not germane to this or any other thread. Carry on but don't imply that others should STFU because you deem them to be not as morally superior as you. You should really work on your elitist attitude.
All of the "bitching" we do helps to produce an informed electorate. This is one of the most important aspects of a successful democratic system. It doesn't matter if it's being done at the local ale house as was done in the 1700s or on the internet in the 2000s.
I've also on occasion spoken about local issues. About 5 years ago we had a local issue going on where out of frustration the people were about to give up on doing anything. I showed up at a meeting on this topic just to listen, and was very disappointed to see the defeatist attitude being presented. I raised my hand to say a few words, and committed do do 1/5th of the work for what was deemed to be an insurmountable task. At the end of the meeting we had about a dozen volunteers joining me. I still did the amount I promised, as did a few others. Accomplishing that step lead to stopping what was going on and a new mayor.
I had no way of knowing it at the time, but I had several people seek me out to say that what I had to say that night changed their minds about the feasibility of fighting on this issue. This is a single example where an individual was able to change, in a material way, the town in which he lived simply by saying what was on his mind. The power of words can be incredible.
Once again we see the mean side of Liberalism and class warfare Coaching is great but being able to play a kids game well is less important than explaining the Constitution and the Federalist papers Or taking them on Mission trips and doing for others. A simple class on the ten commandments would be helpful for some. When you discuss what some one else has remember THOU SHALL NOT COVET lieing about how those Rich act Is Covered by THOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS. If this upsets you dont bother to flame me doesnt bother me at all You really need to examine yourself on why you so upset You should listen to City on whats coming there are many of us with similar experience In my case its family history.
If everyone would abide by the "thou shalt not covet" rule, the leftists would be out of business. Their entire existence has become contingent upon convincing people that they are entitled to that which others have. It's downright evil.
The Ant and the Grasshopper. I have lost weight, sold off my assets, divested when I couldn't sell, stockpiled locally, forward positioned overseas, stepped up training; gun range, fitness, diet, Focused study to original sources, read their 'reading' list, spent two years getting a new degree that put me in the middle of the new 'Health Care' Debate Started a hand to hand class for self defense. And dusted off my original copy of the Anarchist Cookbook. Renewed the passport, made connections overseas, secured a job overseas, working on a location to live and a secondary fall back position. I have been busy.
It isnt the end of the world, it is however the beginning of organized stupidity with no redemptive purposes; coming to your locality soon.
Ah yes, from avoiding the question to bashing someones beliefs. Haven't seen that on this board before.
Still waiting to see what the answers to Crusty's question are. Reading and 'understanding' politics is great but what have you done to make it better?
Hell what have you done to make your local community better?
Active in local politics and state. Church youth group and Sunday school superintendant. We are active in Bassett Hound Rescue and Foster programs. Provide heavy equipment and operators for local projects.
"If everyone would abide by the "thou shalt not covet" rule, the leftists would be out of business. Their entire existence has become contingent upon convincing people that they are entitled to that which others have. It's downright evil."
Blake, you make me giggle like a school girl sometimes. You do know that the "thou shalt not covet" ends with "thy neighbor's wife", right?
I'll give you one thing. You have the talent of making ANYTHING about the left v. the right.
You on the other hand have a talent for wild exaggeration and for turning a discussion personal, two traits of an internet troll.
>>> You do know that the "thou shalt not covet" ends with "thy neighbor's wife", right?
You might want to reread your Bible. Your assertion is incorrect. I'm here to help.
quote:
You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
Exodus 20:17 - American Standard Version
Your understanding of the bible apparently rivals your grasp of the constitution.
Also, riddle me this, riddle me that. "Covet" has multiple definitions, does it not? One is "to wish for, especially eagerly: He won the prize they all coveted."
So, lets play with your little attempted political slant on the Bible:
"If everyone would abide by the "thou shalt not covet" rule, the capitalists would be out of business. Their entire existence has become contingent upon convincing people that if they covet something bad enough, all they have to do is work really really hard and earn it for themselves! It's downright evil."
I can't believe it. I'm a troll and Blake's a communist Whodathunkit?!}
Only fools fight inside of a burning house. We are here because of a common hobby; the brand of motorcycle we ride. The 'managerial practices' that led to the demise of that brand {as it was, anyway} are being implemented on a national, if not global scale, with as little concern for accountability as the 'leadership' of H-D has shown.
Just my 2 cents (Cdn) from a concerned pot smoking athiest.
