Many of us will be making the trek to Sturgis this year. I had to send off a quick email to the info@ link on the Erik Buell Racing website. I wanted to find out if Erik Buell Racing will have a display at Sturgis/Rapid City/Blackhills
Within 10 minutes, here was the response:
Mark,
There will be an 1190RS Carbon Edition at the AMSOIL booth.
Yep, they'll be scratching their doo ragged heads thinking, "boy the mothership really screwed this one up".
It's almost like a slap in the face to HD, it's been less than two years and Erik brings the best super bike in the world right to their front door. I love it.
Lots of people with lots of money that ride motorcycles will be in sturgis, so it can't be *that* bad a demographic.
And it will be GREAT for selling Amsoil. Do you buy Amsoil because it's good enough for the 1190RS? Or because they stepped up to field the only American superbike that is racing? Or because they supported Buell when Harley let them down? Pick your reason, then buy the oil...
After hitting the Amsoil website, I come to find that Amsoil is one of the official lead sponsors of the Sturgis Black Hills Rally in 2011.
They should have prime locations all over the area, but the president and the Erik Buell Racing 1190rs carbon are supposed to be in the biggest display just off main.
The 1190rs is a bike that is shipped from the factory with Amsoil, so it is a good fit for both. The thumb to the nose at HD is just a bonus.
The few years that I have ridden two different Buells to Sturgis, I have gotten nothing but respect. Barring the few exceptions, I have actually gotten a better response from Harley riders than most rice riders.
Most of the attendees at the rally that I have rode with or run into are more of the belief that any two wheels are better than none. This may be my first rally where I will take in some of the debauchery as all of my other rallies have been up at the crack of dawn riding the backroads. (which is why we really go there)
I'm really looking forward to Ted Nugent at the Full Throttle!!! WOO WOO!!
I'll be eager to hear the reaction to Erik Buell racing.
I have to guess.....unless the folks who ride Harley's have changed a lot since I was riding .... That they will be elated to see a kid who grew up hot ridding Corvettes, got his ass booted from the MoCo and, with 18 months, on the cover of AMA being hailed as "Erik Buell's 2nd coming" and then snagging a bevy of awards than the current crop of folks at Harley can only dream about . .
THAT is the America I like ....the one that is proud of being ithe bet in the world and makes no excuses..
Living well is the best revenge. Right now Erik is spending money with the hope of making it pay off. But He is LIVING better than any one could hope for. He is finally living his dream unfettered. Good job Erik !
Stalker, where did you see Uncle Ted last week? I saw him last Friday at Mountainfest in WV. I also saw him with Kiss and Skid Row several years ago, second row for that one and came out with one of the best drunk friend stories ever.
Court - and Erik, if you read here - I love that the carbon bike will be there. Perhaps consider something with stars-n-stripes on it as well? Aren't the race bikes red-white-n-blue?
Just thinking something obvious, to grab the uninformed and make them wonder 'whazzat?' Something that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that it's an AMERICAN motorcycle.
Flash and sizzle to get them TO the booth...production bike to keep them there.
Actually ...... One of the things that Erik will quietly confess to being very proud of is the way The Elves incorporated the Stars and Stripes into the 1190RS ....... Look closely ..... You'll find it.
It's a big deal and fitting evidence of the pride of the folks who designed and built the bike in record time.
i didnt think it was that hard to spot at all Court, if people havent noticed it by now (on here) then, well, i dont know what to tell you. Easy to find. A nice addition
Hmmmm, I could make Sturgis by the 14th. Seeing the 1190 would be cool but I dont know if I could put up with the sturgis crowd. Not really my kind of thing.
Nugent, was here in Fargo for a concert and made an appearance at a dedication of a local archery range.
Folks stood in line for autographs as did I. When I got up to shake his hand he asked what I wanted signed. I said, "I just wanted to shake the hand of the next president of the NRA" He smirked and said, "I think Mr. Heston is doing a fine job" We both agreed he would not be around forever.
That was obviously a few years back. He's a bit over the top most of the time, but very entertaining to listen to and watch on his hunting shows. Shooting flaming arrows on stage are always a highlight only shadowed by the guitar playing!
