My daughter lives in Enfield, North London, which has been affected by the current disorder. However the riots/disorder are very localised and tend to be centred on shopping areas where looting is easier than on residential parts of town. This isn't a political protest but a criminal element intent on robbing and stealing from commercial premises (with unfortunate consequences for those living above shops etc), so hopefully the major residential areas will remain unscathed. The biggest casualty near her was a large Sony distribution centre, which was comprehensively robbed and burnt to the ground. |

rumour has it that some people in Liverpool were moving their cars to where the rioters were and then setting the cars on fire so they could claim on their insurance. |

UK has some of the most dense CCTV coverage in the world. Apparently all the footage from the affected & surrounding areas is being reviewed & offenders will be traced. As for people using the disturbances for their own ends, there'll always be opportunists. |
