Lost my special friend yesterday. Cancer. Such a sweet and happy dog. I am grateful for the ten years we had together. I miss him so. |

Sorry to hear- I lost a pup once when he jumped the fence and got hit by a car....crappy day indeed. They truly are our best friends. Grieve for him, but mostly just remember all the good times with your buddy. |

Animals can be like children and/or a best friend. My deepest sympathies. I'll send up a prayer for your comfort during this time. ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN....RIP Whistler |

+1. He's chasing squirrels right now, and has a bacon buffet scheduled for lunch. Sorry for your loss. R |

Ah caught you smiling at me, That's the way it should be, Like a leaf is to a tree, so fine. Ah all the good times we had, I sang love songs so glad Always smiling, never sad, so fine. As we walk down the country lane, I'll be singing a song, Hear me calling your name. Hear the wind within the trees, Telling Mother Nature 'bout you and me. Well if the sun shines so bright, Or on our way it's darkest night The road we choose is always right, so fine. Ah can your love be so strong When so many loves go wrong Will our love go on and on and on and on... My, my la de la come on now it ain't too far, Tell your friends all around the world, Ain't no companion like a blue eyed merle. Come on now well let me tell you, What you're missing, missin, 'round them brick walls. So of one thing I am sure, It's a friendship so pure, Angels singing all around my door, so fine. Yeah, ain't but one thing to do Spend my natural life with you, You're the finest dog I knew, so fine. When you're old and your eyes are dim, There ain't no old shep gonna happen again, We'll still go walking down country lanes, I'll sing the same old songs, Hear me call your name. Led Zeppelin |

Thank you all for your kindness and thoughtful words. I very much appreciate it. Throughout the day I thought of Whistler and even though I knew he would not be home when I arrived I still looked for him to greet me as always. That was one of the things about him; he was constant, rock steady. Never changed, always dependable in demeanor and spirit. There was one other precious thing, he showed me a glimpse of what unconditional love must be like. That undeserved and without reservation type love. I think he has been a great gift, or maybe more like snapshot of grace. One of my neighbors said Whistler reminded him of a bumper sticker that said, "I hope I can be half the man my dog thinks I am." Amen. Thanks again. |

I also had a dog that passed from cancer (Lymphosarcoma) in late 2008, went as far as chemotherapy which added another year of life. I was not ready to let him go, he was almost like having another kid in the family. There was such an emptiness in the house without him, it just didn't seem like a home, very sad. I finally got another dog, same breed but with completely different coloring. Both dogs share the same characteristics, which brings back happy thoughts of the friend that passed, but make no mistake this dog has his own personality, and helps to fill the void that was left when the other passed. Sorry for your loss. |

Anyone that has not had the pleasure (and sometimes challenges) of have a dog as a best friend is definitely missing out. They would miss out on how they help us be better people by their example! Very sorry for your loss, so for now... morn the loss remember the good times and look forward to when the time is right to look for your next "best friend"! |

Check out the book "The Art of Racing in the Rain." Great read, written from a pup's perspective. Might help. Will definitely make you cry like a baby. |

So sorry, man... I lost my best buddy after 17 and a half years this past May 21... was reminiscing about him this morning. Being a Basenji, he was unique in every way, purely instinctual, with an unbreakable will and spirit. Good luck, be at peace as best you can. |
