Honestly and i have no prrof other than driving them. I think Ford has made excellent stride the last few years. We have an 08 Escape w/ 50k on it and not a single problem so far. Which is a sharp contrast to older fords I've owned. |

A friend of mine at work has a newish (3 years old?) Tundra. Awesome truck, but the service and parts are simply astronomical for that machine. No way I'd buy one. ~SM |

Manufacturing is one portion of the jobs, there are also corproate, management and engineering to consider. Purchasing products engineered here helps to support higher-paying higher-tech jobs in America. My 2002 F250 diesel is a workhorse and a half. There's a good reason that it's the truck that Haliburton uses in Iraq. |

the 2001/2 ford super duties are awesome trucks. There are many people that have over 1 million miles on them. They ruined the truck when the went to the 6.0. |

My Ford pickups have been awesome until about 80,000. Both the F-250HD and the F-150 kicked ass. Each cost me about $7,000 in maintenance though after they hit 80,000. I'd buy another in a heartbeat but I'd never own another out of warranty. The Ford Focus, which we drove 994 miles on Thursday and about 850 yesterday, is bulletproof. 33.7mpg and an excellent all around vehicle. I ordered another Ford on Friday but they won't be imported until next Feb. They are brining the Focus ST (think Focus with same hp as Porsche Cayman) to the USA. Trying to get the first one. |

It's been a few years since I've worked in a shop, but I've spent a lot of time under all kinds of vehicles. Quick visual inspections tell me that Toyota and Nissan are building trucks with about half as much steel any domestic model. Turns out it wasn't even good steel with all of the frame rust recalls going on. Why anyone would buy a truck from a dealership that has piles of replacement frames stacked up out back is beyond me. There are some models/years they're not even fixing - they're just buying the thing off of you at NADA "Excelent" value, despite its condition and sending it to the crusher. Toyota has had more bonehead bad press in recent years than I could have imagined. Even if I liked foreign cars, I wouldn't go near them. |

My '04 F550 is truly an awesome truck. One I would like to be proud of. Other than the 6.0 it is very well built and a great looking rig. It will pull amazing loads when it is running right. The problematic 6.0 will randomly leak out one of it's fluids about every tenth time I park it somewhere in public, usually where I need to look good in a professional manor. It has not had to be towed home yet, but I have on several occasions bought parts to fix it to get it home. |

"I'd buy Ford for one reason, Ford didn't take government money. I'd buy Toyota for two reasons, Toyota didn't take government money and doesn't use UAW labor." Might want to check that. |

We have this discussion about every 60 days. I enjoyed, back in the 80's, pointing out the foreign parts on folks' "American Made" Harley-Davidson motorcycles. I had no qualm but was constantly amazed at how I'll informed and myopic some folks were in a feigned effort to be " loyal". I like the idea of MADE IN USA but am well aware that, in a global society where our Team Elves legendary race effort proved what can b done when talent can br drawn from 7 nations, in order to make the best product in the world requires using the best talent and materials in the world. Additionally . . . Once one gets past the surface . . . Many things don't come from where you may think. Someday . . . . You will hear an amazing story of a hurdle Erik Buell had to leap in the last year to make a critical deadline. |

Just talking about the frames and crash protection. Go into a commercial or larger ford dealer am look at the difference in the frames. The older toyota trucks were good Todays batch not so much. Toyota has become the GM of Japan . 7.3 power strokes best diesels ever built for light to medium trucks. I am still running 95s the bodies are shot but the engines never quit. |

I wouldn't pull 8500# with either of those trucks for any length of time. You'll be wanting an F250 with either a gas V10 or the V8 Diesel in it. Safety first, every time. |

@ dennis c "You tell me what MC that I can buy thats 100% american or truck you just made my point where all the profit goes if you buy a Toyota." How did I make that point? The big point is that Americans need to accept that we are a part of a global economy and everyday we are becoming a less significant portion of said economy. If we want to succeed we need to find ways to exploit our resources to their maximum. The point I made was that you are a hippocrite. You act like a bigot calling people names when you partake in the exact same actions as they do. Your Buell might be assembled in America, but the majority of its parts are not American made. Sounds alot like a Toyota Tundra to me? Assembled in Texas. Get off your high horse and take a look in the mirror. "If you like so much why don't you move there and give your job to someone that will buy american.I bet you shop at walmart to keep China working." Do you know where Wal-Mart is headquartered? So following your line of reasoning all the profit would go where? Here let me help you out with that: Walmart 702 SW 8th Street Bentonville, Arkansas 72716-8611 |

I don't know if it is a fact but we went to order a 2012 Mercedes-Benz E series Cabriolet for the SCU and the salesman said it was the last "solid steel" car made. I do know that when you close the door it sounds much different than any Ford or Toyota (or Lexus or Infinity) I've ever ridden in. The thing is a tank. |

Court, what the heck did you do to those trucks to require $7000 in maintenance?? For that price you can get a NEW (gas 5.4) engine AND transmission (4spd auto w/ OD) with 3 year, unlimited mile warranties! As you can see, I love me some Ford trucks! Seen here are just a few I've had... 97 F150, 2000 F250, 99 F650, and behind it a 98 Ranger stakebed conversion. (Message edited by pwnzor on August 08, 2011) |

I rock a 2002 Ford Focus with 256,000 miles. Runs great. Uses no oil and I RUN THE SNOT out of it. Gets 30+ mpg in summer even with my mixed 80mph/crawling commute to work. No rust except the rock chips, and I NEVER wash it. No squeaks or rattles. Original exhaust. Has it had repairs? Yes, but nothing out of the ordinary. Nuff said. |

I was quoted $7300 all-inclusive for a new 5.4L Triton and 4spd OD automatic trans installed at Gwinnett Place Ford in Duluth, Georgia. Their labor rates are $85 per hour. What do they charge up there? |

Not far off from $85 a minute. Rates vary by shop, but due to high property taxes and rent, you are looking at $100-150 per hour depending on how far into the woods you are willing to go. |

For a full size truck go with the Ford. If you plan on doing any towing or regularly load it down with any weight, get an F250 not a F150. These days the half ton trucks are just passenger cars with big trunks. The 250 is built much more solidly and has adequate brakes for towing. |

This thread is akin to "which tire is best for my bike". My Ford lost its transmission, $2700 later. Like Court said it is a problem that Ford is not unknowing about, what they choose to do is escape any responsibility. It has left a BAD taste in my mouth so to speak. Toyota would definatley be my choice if I were in the market. Toyota trucks have always had a lasting reputation. Sure it may be more to fix them but which is worse? Toyota= 1 $3000 fix in 6 years or Ford= 1 $2000 every 2 years? |

I've never replaced a transmission in any Toyota product I've ever owned. I've never owned a Toyota product that I've gotten rid of with less than 200,000 on the clock. |
