I'd do the same for you. I was diving back from PA on I-70, I was hauling a rocking chair so was in the car. Traffic was screwed up by a couple of truckers one was trying to pass the other while barely going faster. When a Bozo on a new BMW 1200GSA comes blasting up the center line and blows BETWEEN the trucks! He had to be doing 85 at least as I was at 60 and went by me like I was standing still. I think CA is the only state lane splitting is legal and I don't think they'd let you pull this stunt. I shutter to think what would have happened if he'd clipped one of those trucks. He keep this up and he'll be a grease spot on the road. I'm use to seeing stupid crap pulled by kids on rice rockets but not a BMW, most of the time BMW riders are a little older and smarter. |

There was a guy here riding an R1200GS who rode like that. He ground down the edges of the heads. Then again, he blew off his thumb cleaning a gun. The dog ate it before he could pick it up. It ain't the arrow, it's the indian. Regardless of the bike, any bike can be ridden like a maniac. |

I believe there is some stipulation traffic must be going under XXX mph, and you can only go XX over said traffic. I wish there were dedicated motorcycle lanes, or double white lines between which we could ride. I wish AZ allowed lane splitting, but the practice is hard to allow. I'm of the opinion when I am in a lane, I own that lane, all of it. And you could see how this may be a problem for lane splitting :/ |

Having lived in the L.A. area for about 33 yrs. now, I've done LOTS of lane splitting. There's a 'speed' that's roughly right for it, and it's generally NOT 85 or so! (though I must admit I've split lanes at that speed, but the cars were doing 75, so that doesn't count) You have to be about 5 seconds ahead of NOW to do it right, and stuff can happen really fast, so wailing down between the rows at double or triple their speed is an activity best left for maniacs or those wishing to help society through organ donation. A few years ago a CHP motor officer told me that though there was the occasional accident due to lane splitting, the statistics showed that compared to other situations (he mentioned left turners in front of bikes at intersections as the worse) lane splitting accidents were quite infrequent. None of that excuses blasting between trucks at 50% over the limit where it's illegal. Maybe he had a bout with diarrhea and was trying to make it to that rest area ahead. |

I think when truckers (or anyone else) do s**t like that, they should get a ticket. A BIG ticket. It would seem reasonable that if you block the passing lane for one minute or more you should be ticketed. I regularly see traffic bottled up for as far as the eye can see just because one a-hole just has to pass and doesn't have the power to do it, or another a-hole is camped in the left lane and is too clueless to know what is going on behind. I'm just infuriated. Rant mode off. |

The reason truckers do this is two-fold. One is fuel mileage. The other is to be a jerk. There is simply no way that a reasonable cop will ticket a semi driver for passing another truck at a reasonable rate. I've never seen as much of this inching along, one semi passing another and holding up traffic, as I've seen in Indiana. |

I-97 in Maryland. It's 17 miles long, which I believe makes it the shortest stretch of Interstate. Granted, the entrance to it from 50E is on the left and the exit at the other end to connect to I-95 is a left exit. So what? In my misspent youth I drove a dump truck pulling heavy equipment and I don't recall sitting in the left lane because there was an exit in 17 miles. It was remarkably slow, too. The amount of left-lane hogging on this stretch is just unbelieveable. Not just trucks by any means but they are primary offenders. I think my commute is getting to me. |
