Wow. Pegs DOWN. From what I learned about him, he never cottoned to the knee-down technique, preferring to stay tucked in at all times, for better aerodynamics... I've never really cottoned to putting a knee down, although I understand why getting those body parts involved may make you faster... 70 years old. He lived through the HISTORY of motorcycling, and WAS a huge part of the history of MC racing. Like King Kenny, he learned to adapt as technology leaped forward. Tires, frames, et cetera fell behind, but none of that stopped him. Wow. Godspeed. |

That most likely is an H2R if not the KR750 (liquid cooled Kawi before the TZ put them out of business) Can't tell from the photo. Amazing time in which he lived and came of age as a racer! HE'll be missed |

I saw Gary race a couple of times. He was my favorite motorcycle racer when I was growing up because he rode a Triumph just like my brother did. He was the best at short track racing but I liked his road racing skills when I saw him run at St Louis (Wentsville) when I was a young kid. Good old #9 sure will be missed! |

A truly great racer of the 70's. A comment by the european press from that era on the americans who first went to Europe racing the stroker 750's: " The english race as if they don't care if they live or die! These Americans race as if they want to die!" |

I remember watching him race. He was faster just messing around than I could ever be. Funny how the old films make it seem these guys were slow and at the time they were flying. (Message edited by Birdy on August 06, 2011) |

He had a bike shop not far from where I live. I bought a pair of handlebars from him for my Norton. I don't remember what year it was but I remember him saying that he was selling them to me for a "1974 price", which meant "cheap". He was a nice guy. |

Wow- it's one thing to think about racing in flattrack, another altotogether for circuit/road racing.. SEVENTY years, or the better part, of running high velocities. |

Wow- it's one thing to think about racing in flattrack, another altotogether for circuit/road racing.. In the chase for the number 1 plate. Those guys had to do well in all phases, 1/2 Mile,Mile, short track, TT, and Roadracing. Those are not one trick poinies, for sure. They can ride |

I had the privilege over the years of watching him race (1972 @ Loudon)up to the recent past through AHRMA contacts, had many great conversations, and drank a few brewskies with him at races as a spectator. I'm proud to have known him... To be honest, I was surprised that his survived that long; he lived more in seventy years than most of us would in 140! |
