well I put off getting a collage education for 10 years but I am now enrolled and going to school to study Aviation Maintenance Technology. I spent 10 years sitting behind a desk for the army(not always but for the most part) and hated the whole Idea of a desk job. well when I got out I found out real quick and in a hurry the job market is not a nice place right now and I had no experience in the most prominent job fields here in south west Louisiana which are petrol-chemical refineries nor do they seem very exciting. I have always loved working on things however automotive mechanics don't seem to make out too well in the beginning and motorcycle mechanics seem to be hit or miss and I did not have much desire to move to Florida or Arizona for a year. At last I have another option there are several large aviation maintenance facilities here in Lake Charles one being Northrip Grummin. So I have decided that will be my career path. besides uncle sam is paying for me to go to school with the post 9/11 G.I. bill so I figure I did my time and gave for my country it is time for uncle sam to give back(though that was never what I did it for.) |

Awesome on you, I am going back after 20 years and should graduate in May 2012. I find it is actually easier because I seem to be more focused, ie-no partying, girls, cars, bikes, etc...... |

I'm utilizing the post 9/11 GI Bill right now as well, and it is great. Going to school and working, both full time, is not great =(. But, I need to pay bills and go to school so . . |

well the good thing is I don't have much bills so i have no need to have a full time job while in school since the amount of money the bah for the gi bill covers my bills so I am just going to get a small part time job to have spending money. and to answer the school question it is called SOWELA Tech it is the local tech school here in Lake Charles and the aviation department works close with Northrip Grummin. |

I've been back in school full time since January as a history/pre law major. I finished HS back in 93 and spent 10 years in the Marine Corps. The post 9/11 GI Bill is awesome. The discipline that you gained will come in handy. Right now, I am entering my junior year and have a 4.0 GPA. Hummm, there are a lot of good law schools in the Boston area. Best of luck to you. |

most fun I ever had - language schools Have fun at campus - you will notice a huge glut of entitlement youngins and a wave of returning X'rs that are serious. School has indeed changed. Good luck to you - thank you for your service- may you find the success you seek. Ax the Desk pilot and ship of USS BLDG, I know thee well. We cant all be Spec Ops or Tom Cat pilots - but the machine could never function without all the gears to the wheels. Very little demand domestically for a cold war spook with linguist capabilities - had to outsource internationally after getting a Masters in Public Heath, Administration and Management. |
