Excellent post, MacB. The Independent vote is the key to 2012 where America remains a right-of-center population so it is up to the Republicans to lose by taking regressive social positions. At this time, the voter cares about $ and nothing else. Obama now has a track record which he can't hide from.

McCain lost the election because we was a wackjob pointless old douche party establishment tool.

It wouldn't have mattered WHO he selected as his running mate.

I HATED McCain in 2000. He wasn't any better in 2008. Palin raised his numbers (they were never lower after Palin was added than before), but there was no hope for that sinking ship.

Bob Dole would have preferable. At least he could raise his arms.

McCain lost because the media wasn't impartial and only vetted Palin to the extent of working people like char into a frenzy. Hell I distinctly remember char telling me Obama was a constitutionalist yet only a handful of people in the media were playing his own words that told us he absolutely wasn't a constitutionalist.

So for all the crying about prior raising of the debt limit and claiming that what is going on now is no different...

The largest raise of the debt limit prior to the BO administration was $984 billion in 2003. People claimed Bush was spending money like a drunken sailor because of this.

Under BO we doubled that record with a $1.9 trillion increase just last year. Not content with that record, just a little over a year later we are bumping it up by another $2.4 trillion. I don't even know what to compare this behavior to. The fleet on leave in Singapore? This really is insanity.

I didn't believe it when I saw OBAMA actually telling citisnz to TWIT their congressmen to swing their way and...then then actually thanking the people for doing so in a later speech. WTF.

It makes it soooo un-personal and IMO extremely unprofessional and totally un-presidential. I M O.

Dam it...there goes my age showing again... argh.

I really tried to like the guy but I keep getting headaches from trying so hard. I actually DID like him onceafter one of his live speeches a couple months ago, I tried to find it on the whitehouse site but can't, (I think all of them are listed)
er.. but I can't stand to go thru all of them to find the ONE speech I liked. there is not enough motrin on the earth.

Anyone see his bumbling idiot sidekick talk to the press today? Now there is a bumbling idiot trainwreck.

Calling tea party members terrorists! There is supreme irony in that given what BO said about toning down the rhetoric after Gabby Giffords was shot, and Giffords came back to Congress for the first time today to vote on this.

I see the press has also jumped on this bandwagon, also after all the hoopla about dangerous rhetoric after the Giffords shooting.

You know what is so great about that is the corporations have won in this situation. The American people won't win. Corporations will continue to make billions, ship jobs overseas, the American middle class will continue to disappear... and Americans will continue to blame each other... name call... whatever... greed will kill this country and it will be from within.

"Greed" founded this country.

"Greed" built this country.

If corporate "greed" is shipping jobs overseas, what do you propose is the antidote?

Whatever, how would YOU encourage jobs to come back?

How would you prevent more jobs from being shipped over seas?

Clang-clang! Clankety-clank! Clang-clang!

Did you hear that?

Hmmm...if I'm not mistaken, that's the sound of someone kicking a can down the road.

Oh wait...no...that's the sound of Congressmen kicking a can down the steps of the Capitol building, out into the streets of American taxpayers...present and future.

My wife picked me up at the airport this evening. After the hug & smooch, the first thing she said is, "What's going to happen with the congressional bill passing?"

I said, "We're doomed."

I'm pretty sure the progressives won't be satisfied until the manufactured class warfare becomes actual class warfare.

Cloward-Piven is not far now.

Now, if I had money sitting on the sidelines waiting to see what happens next, I'd probably keep it mobile and in a currency that is accepted outside of the US or in bullion.

If I were a corporation, I'd keep my $8-9T dollars sitting on the sidelines mobile and would seriously consider investing OUTSIDE the US.

Wouldn't it be nice if companies felt safe to invest that $8-9T growing business, hiring people, and creating new products?

Sorry 'bout the cut and paste, but it's worth it.

I'd have preferred Dole, even past his prime, but McCain back then was shanghaied in S. Carolina by the Shrub. Horrible irony. To date he has been the last Republican I'dve voted for.

Let the Monday AM armchair quarterback games continue. I'm looking forward for the next chance to vote.

As expected... the professional newsies are announcing that the Repubs and Demos have made an historic deal. With the solemnity and gravitas that the occasion calls for, they have come together, after great and profound debate, to join hands...E Pluribus Unum, they said... We may have different ideas on the subject, but when it comes to the interests of the whole country, we can nevertheless work as one body, with one heart, and one digestive system...and so they crossed aisles...and clenched hands...and slapped backs...and the brightest and best...the leading statesmen, leading scholars, leading orators and rhetoricians of the world's greatest hegemon, all came together at the last minute...and agreed to continue debasing the currency and credit of the United States of America.

Hallelujah.. Hallelujah... We are saved!

All over the world, shouts of Hosannah go up...along with stock prices.

And the US economy sinks...

Our economy is in a great correction. What they've done was for the cameras (read:voters). What they've done to us is unfolding as I type.

2012 huh? I may not vote. We'll see.

Imagine your uncle came to you, asking to borrow some money. Your uncle earns about $100,000 per year, but he already has half a million dollars of outstanding unsecured debt. He promises to reduce his half-million dollar debt load by $14,000 over the next ten years, if you will merely lend him $7,000 today.

Would you lend your uncle the money?

Probably not...unless your uncle's name was Sam and you had no choice in the matter.

It's late. I'm steamed. Perhaps a good night's sleep will improve my disposition.

The AAA rating will STILL be downgraded.

There was supposed to be $4T in cuts to avoid the downgrade.

"Default" was never the risk. Loss of AAA status was the risk. Unfortunately only one of the risks that would result in the loss of the AAA rating was "default".

The other risk is the failure to reign in the entitlement programs. Since virtually none of the cuts occur until 2013 and the cuts fell way short of those that would demonstrate real reform to the wrecked budget, the AAA status will be lost anyway.

I have been listening to Canadian radio, apparently they are UPSET about free market intrusions into healthcare and not happy with doctors that 'capitalizing' on seeing extra patients outside their normal hours or at additional off practice sites.
Sadly entertaining.

Corporations will continue to make billions, ship jobs overseas, the American middle class will continue to disappear... and Americans will continue to blame each other... name call... whatever... greed will kill this country and it will be from within.

Corporations will only win by running from this country. Many will. Those who don't will be severely handicapped in the world marketplace. Greed is fine when it has checks and balances. That is what you see in the corporate world for the most part. It does get out of whack when the rules are set up to promote one industry over another though. There are select times when this may make sense, such as with utilities to make sure that the electrical grid has good saturation across the country. Too often rules are set up to reward political contributions. The problem here isn't greed where people want to earn money. The problem is greed where politicians want to take the peoples money from them to use in ways that reward themselves. This is the greed that will destroy the nation. This is the greed that has been on display in Washington for far too long.

I'll second Jeremy's question... What would you do to bring jobs back to the US?

The other risk is the failure to reign in the entitlement programs. Since virtually none of the cuts occur until 2013 and the cuts fell way short of those that would demonstrate real reform to the wrecked budget, the AAA status will be lost anyway.

There's an obvious problem here. This Congress lack the authority to bind a future congress to any budgetary constraints. This has failed repeatedly through history. It's simply a way to pull the wool over the eyes of the voters.

There's a Constitutional question that is being brought up now regarding the "triggers" that will force budget cuts. The trigger is left in the hands of the CBO or appointed officials in the Executive branch. This is putting budgetary decisions in the hands of non-elected officials. Of course the Constitution puts this responsibility of establishing a budget on the Congress. Congress doesn't have the authority to override the Constitution and give that responsibility to a non-elected committee. Of course this will simply be an excuse to further abuse the powers of congress to seize more of your tax dollars, while putting the blame on another Congress (it's time to really make the next Congress a different group of people!) so that they can claim they have no choice.

It's funny how one can complain about the overspending of a prior administration while supporting exponentially higher spending by the current administration.
