You need to either replace the actuator, or you can disable the actuator function using ECMspy. |

is replacing the actuator do-able without the need for the stealership getting involved? |

Easy. Remove outer airbox cover, it is sitting right there, held on by two or three torx screws, unplug, disconnect servo cable, reverse order to install new one. Lube your servo cable while you are in there. |

Question, Are you certain it's the actuator itself? or is the cable stuck or butterfly stuck, thereby causing the actuator not to function. I always check the cheap things before ordering the expensive ones. |

It's still worth checking the rest of the system. Just take off the outer airbox and pull the cable to see that things move smoothly. If it's hanging up, find the cause and fix that first. Has the code been cleared? Has it returned? It may have been a bit of a fluke. It's not a critical item like if the oil light is on. If it's been cleared and it returns I would fix it though. |

it was cleared by the dealer tech and did return on the subsequent test ride |

It's an easy fix then. Sits right on top of the inner air box. A simple pull test on the cable will let you know if the rest of the system is working smoothly. It's just a couple of screws and a plug in connector. It wouldn't hurt to drip some cable lube down the cable while you're in there. I think the valve on the muffler is supposed to get lubed to as a periodic maintenance item. I'm not sure how easy it is to get to that without dropping the muffler though. Mine is long gone, so I can't check on my bike. |
