God Bless Norway!!! I am proud to say I am Norwegain/ American and was able to travel to that country at a young age. It is one of the most spectacular and beautiful places on earth. Unfortunately, the Neo Nazi movement is alive and well there. Too bad that the Norwegains have no death penalty... as the evil that has been perpetrated on that country recently is vile and disgusting. I really hope there are not any more attacks in Europe... it breaks my heart. |

Its awful... they guy was a psycho operating under a "christian conservative" banner, though as Charlotte suggests it was probably closer to a psycho operating under a social democrat banner. Regardless, as a Christian Conservative myself, I condemn his actions under the strongest possible terms. It was pure evil, and had relation to anything I believe to be Christian or Conservative. |

He claims to be "Anti-Marxist"... but he took his delusional rage out on the Labour Party youth... which I know little about... the thing is about these people (terrorists), it doesn't even matter what he claims to be... the fact is he has killed 90 people, and many of them teenagers, and posed as a cop to do it, which makes all of it even more despicable... |

Yeah, I know... the 21 years each for two counts of terrorism (42 years?)... unreal... he should get 80+ counts of premeditated murder... he planned for eight years to do this apparently... someone like this should get 80 life in prison sentences (or better the death penalty)... hopefully his crappy manifesto is just delusional bullcr*p and there are no other cells... Also shocking... Norwegain police do not carry guns... |

Interesting that the only real association they can give him are the two multiple choice tags from Facebook. Why is it that someone who claims to be a fundamentalist muslim, hates infidels, and plans to kill infidels is branded a "gunman" but someone who checked two check boxes on Facebook is a direct agent of the Vatican and the RNC? I just find it odd. |

Until someone "goes off the reservation" how do you KNOW they are a criminal. This guy hadn't, as far as I know, committed any crime before this. Evidently he was saving up. It's not a matter of rights given. It's a matter of law enforcement. You can't prevent things like this by removing the rights of everyone else. You can't prevent stabbings by making pointy things illegal. |

Go ahead... use this thread as a discourse on political ideology of any kind... it just proves how ignorant you are... This had nothing to do with POLITICS... the guy is mentally insane... His father has already been on record to say that he wishes he killed himself and not a bunch of innocent people... Fatty, you are correct... Unfortunately there are probably more criminally insane per capita in America than many other places... let's just hope this does not trigger some copy cats... After this, I myself am thinking of buying a handgun... |

The only sensible choice, when shot at, is to return fire. Hiding behind a bush has been tried many times and always fails. One can make an excellent case for the right to keep and bear arms in this modern world. |

the guy is mentally insane Charlotte, I'm glad to hear your assessment is as such. This guy IS completely nuts. That said, and I know many here are not only not conservative but not Christian, the way this guy has been portrayed as both conservative and Christian rather than insane is simply disingenuous, the way this guy has been portrayed as what he isn't makes me crazy. The American Atheists website is gloating about how only religious (and specifically Christian) people do things like this. It's simply intellectually dishonest. Their position is that instances like this should be utilized to shut down ALL religious speech. http://www.examiner.com/humanist-in-national/right -wing-christian-fundamentalist-brings-terror-to-no rway Were the perpetrator of this act a devout atheist, I would fight tooth and nail to make sure that this occurrence had no impact on free speech or the free expression (or lack thereof) of religion. A Christian wouldn't have done this. Funny how all the pagans know more about Christianity than Christians do. |

Also shocking... Norwegain police do not carry guns Norway is a homogeneous society with a shared culture but as with so many other European countries, that aren't reproducing in sufficient quantities to sustain their populations, they have turned to lax immigration policies with most coming from Islamic countries. Multiculturalism, like marriage, takes work. You can expect more of this in the coming years as the last vestiges of Western European society die out. |

The following is just a personal view of what might have precipitated the terrible acts that occurred in Norway on 7/22/11. Please do not construe that I am in any way sympathetic to this mass murderer or his cause. I am not. Psychopaths like this needs to be done away with. Norway amassing a significant wealth in the 80ies forward based on a healthy energy production system. With this wealth, Norwegian political leadership decided to open the country for immigration from counties where the conditions are bad or people was in direct danger of injury from their local condition or leadership. The persons are in general from the Horn of Africa, Pakistan or Bangladesh. In less than 35 years, the population demographics in Oslo have changed from 98% ethnic Norwegian to about 65% ethnic Norwegian today. Much smaller percentages in other cities, but the demographics has changed there as well. Norwegian politics: Since after WW2 the Norwegian Labor party has been a dominant force (as in many other EU countries) driving a redistribution politics through high taxation resulting in a high level of public services. Norwegians have approved of this approach to governing the country and even more so after Energy income became quite significant. In addition to the economic policies forces within the labor party and two other left oriented parties have actively pursued the policy of making Norway more multi-cultural through immigration policies. Alienation: In the public and private debate those that opposed the immigration policies have increasingly been labeled as “racist” and shouted down as persons that “do not count” and should be ignored. As a result, these people formed their own party (Progressives Party) FrP where the goal was to curb the immigration and tax the populous less. FrP was quite vocal in the beginning, but after some time, FrP became more mainstream and is now an equivalent to our GOP. That left some individuals wanting and they have become more isolated and going underground. NeoNazis and some other groupings operate in the open. The perpetrator was a member of FrP until 1992 and has been a single cell ever since. Provocation: Individuals, like the perpetrator, have been continually “provoked” by the gleeful celebration of multi-culturalism and deprioritation of Norwegian traditions driving some to anger. Now That brings us to 7/22/11 and the loss of so many innocent lives. From my above description, this could have been avoided by two approaches: - More open debate of the wisdom of the immigration policies - Better internal policing of individuals that have “gone over the edge and gone rogue” The accelerated pace of immigration is dangerous, not just in Norway but in other European countries. In 35 years they have to adjust to the immigration mix. We have had the immigration mix in the US ever since the birth of the union and still experience a problem every now and then. Final note: I am very thankful that my family and friends over there were not in harms way when this tragedy struck. |

I think there is something to the Norwegain mindset too that comes to bear on the media reaction to this episode... Alone, the bombing of downtown government buildings in Oslo was a major event. But, to hear that he went to this island, pretending to be a police man and got people together in an assembly to supposedly "talk about the bombing" and then opened fire is especially heinuos. In the Norway that people are talking about... they say that NOTHING like this has EVER happened there... so a lot of people thought that Norway might be safe of such terrorist acts. They guy is a megalomaniacal, narcissistic, delusional, paranoid sociopath. Apparently he admits to the killing, or actually is gloating about it, AND STILL BELIEVES HE SHOULD NOT BE PUNISHED. No guilt, no remorse = SOCIOPATH. The problem I have with the media is that they are calling attention to whatever this wing nut's agenda was... obviously hatred is at the core of his motivation... I mean, really, if he cared that much about fighting the spread of Islam, couldn't he have just signed up for the Norwegain special forces and gotten himself shipped to the Middle East ? That would be logical. |
