My Kiwi friend Eric is about to launch on a Buell trip from Kansas to Fairbanks, AK and back. He will be riding two up with his sigother Corrinne . . .and is worried about losing a drive belt. What tools should he be carrying along with to change out a broken belt?

I seem to recall the job requires removing rear isolators . . .?

Thanks in advance from both Eric and myself . . .

I'd say a phone and a list of other Buell riders would be the easiest, it's a pretty involved procedure, and would be next to impossible to do on the side of the road...

i second that. replace the belt before they go or just make sure its nice and loose. and preload is set right for both them on it..

I changed out isolators on a lift in my air conditioned garage and i STILL hated it.
F doing it (TRYING TO DO IT) on the side of the road.

There's a tool available that allows you to change it with only removing the right side isolator. Google and you can probably find it pretty easily.

That would be a bad enough job (but not nearly as bad as having to remove both).

Riding two up that far on a tuber I would be more worried about the front isolator than I would be about a belt. That is provided it is in good condition and adjusted correctly, I didn't say by the book.

I can not imaging changing a belt on the fly. I have had a hard enough time in my own garage.
