I picked a hell of a weekend to have Jenn agree to go on an over night motorcycle ride with me... damn did it get HOT in the afternoons! last weekend jenn and i packed some backpacks and jumped on the bikes saturday morning. started friday night with a test of the new scala rider Q2 Pro head sets i picked up. A friend of mine(and badweb lurker) modified them for me to accept earbud headsets instead of the stupid speakers that come on them. they sound alot better now.
the headsets made the ride more enjoyable for both of us. didnt have a problem with miscommunication, which is a great thing! only problem we had was the usable distance gets cut down a fair amount in the curvy/hilly timber roads. took off saturday morning and wandered our way out of iowa and into MO. stopped at an old sinclair station along the way for gas and couldnt resist talking jenn into getting on the dinosaur! lol. stayed the night in columbia instead of continuing on a little farther south like we had planned. it was just freaking hot! we wanted to stop and relax. remind me never to stay at the motel 6 in columbia again. even if it was $48 it was a dive to the point i had to come out of the room once and run some guy off that was obviosly not taking no for an answer while she was having a smoke. when we were looking for a hotel i saw these cool metal horses and had to stop to get some pictures for my daughter! shes a huge horse nut and raises/shows them. we got up about 5am sunday morning, had breakfast and hit the road trying to cover more ground before the heat kicked in to bad. it was a very beautiful ride. sun coming up, decent temps(when moving) and the solitude of just the 2 of us being in the boonies burning up the pavement. Jenn was much more confident on the ride back now that she kind of knew what to expect from the roads down there. even though some of them were a little loose from the shale they stick on them from time to time we kept up a damn good pace. there were more then a few times i turned around to slow down and check on her but she was right on my tail. to say i was very proud of her is an understatement. living in iowa she doesnt have alot of curvy road experience, but she said she felt comfortable and knew better then to try and pace me if i decided to REALLY light the fire on the 1125.
had alot of fun on 129 so of 36. signs saying 35 mph corners for x miles ahead and good pavement... hell ya! i was above the ton mark through those things for miles. it was great, and honestly jenn was not far behind miles and miles of road and never seeing anyone, like iowa, except the roads arent as straight lol. then there were the roller coaster roads. oh yes... most of them come to a peak instead of a nice curve back down at the top. much speed at all and the front end floated on every hill. of course i had to add more throttle and more throttle and more throttle...! wheelies from the top of the hill down to the bottom, turned into air from the top of the hill down to the bottom. and all i could hear in my helmet half the time was Jenn giggling, at herself and at me. apparently her stomach kept floating! and then there was the site of me barreling up a hill, reach the crest, then see the sky under the tires and watch as i fall out of the sky and disappear only for her to reach the top of the hill and see me barreling up the next one to do it all over again. it was a riot! then there was our off road excursion. one of the main roads we wanted to be on had a bridge out and under construction. now i know most of the time a road isnt COMPLETELY closed, especially if your on a bike. so we went the rest of the way down the road until we reached the bridge. yep it was closed alright... but... i got off the bike and started looking things over. looked down at the creek and the path the construction equipment had been taking from one side to the other. Jenn already didnt like my idea and i hadnt even said it yet lol. i told her to wait there and jumped back on the 1125. off the road and down into what would have been the ditch i went, spinning and sliding the whole way. cranked her up the other side of the creek and parked back on the road. Jenn walked over and i rode hers to the other side. (this was a walk in the park compared to alot of the off roading ive done on the buells, but fun none the less) it doesnt look to bad but it was a little steep in all that torn up loose dirt and smooth tires! this is what makes things fun...! just have to make a run at it by the time we got home about 4 or so on sunday all we did was go in the house and sit in the a/c. i'll bet i spent over 50 miles of our trip standing up on the bike or kneeling on the seat trying to get some more airflow and stay just a few degrees cooler. good thing we froze those buell camel backs before we left. other then that small complaint, it was a great time with my hunny! |

Awesome write up Tim! Great pics as well. Needless to say I am jealous. One question though? Why does the 1125 have a diaper on? |
