Does anyone have experience with fitting an 2008 XB engine into an older frame? What are the components that have changed where it mounts to the bike, any? Possibly having to run different oil lines as the swingarm changed configurations. | ||

I assume you have all the new 08 electronics, wiring, sensors, ECM. Engine controls changed markedly from DDFI-2 to DDFI-3 | ||

The wiring comes with the engine... I would have to buy the ecm from Erik Buell Racing or somewhere else. The engine was a complete removal from a Uly and I was thinking about putting it into my Firebolt (which just stopped working). | ||

I forget which voltage regulators changed during what years, but you might need the right one of those as well. If the connectors fit, you are good to go. | ||

You said the engine comes with the wiring, but I have a good 2009 XB12R wiring harness leftover from my Uly engine swap if you need one. Changing out the wiring harness is probably the most difficult part of the job. The engine mounts are the same, swing arm connections are the same (at least between an 07 and an 09) but you need the hoses that go with the engine. Don't forget the larger oil cooler with different fittings on the 08-10 as well. | ||

Good call on the fuel pump. The connector is different from the pre-08 harness to the 08-up harness. Since my 07 fuel pump was good, I swapped the connector from my brand new 09 Uly harness for the one on my old 07 Uly harness. By changing the fuel pump, you'll be able to use the fuel pump connector that comes on the 08-up harness. | ||

Damn! I just realized your engine has the 08 Uly wiring harness with it. It's a pity you didn't do this a few months ago; I would have swapped you even-Steven for my 09R wiring harness. That would have saved me ~$360! | ||

Didn't Buell upgrade the fans just recently? Hugh - the guy I bought the engine from didn't have the Uly bike a few months ago so don't feel bad. | ||

Thad- I think the Buell P/N for the fans are all the same. I installed a newer one I'd gotten from American Sport Bike a couple of years ago when I swapped my engine recently; the manufacturer's part number had a different letter suffix from the original 07 fan which does imply they've updated them. I think as long as you get a relatively new fan you're OK. BTW- the throttle cables are also different from the pre-08/08-up. I have a set of those left over I'll make you a deal on. | ||

They did upgrade the fan programming for the 2010 model year. The race ECM from Erik Buell Racing probably has that fan programming already in it. |
