http://www.theagitator.com/2011/07/07/does-michell e-obama-know-about-this/ "Suitable" means it must be "common"? Huh? Unbelievable. I despise busy-bodies. The pathetic code nazis need a good ass kicking, maybe multiple ass kickings. |

Replace with "decorative vines" (poison ivy). Busybodies indeed. |

wow, I had to write that guy an email explaining how suitable and common are not synonyms. I think that yard space should be encouraged to be used as something productive instead of just grass which consumes water, chemical fertilizers and herbicides as well as all the gas your mower uses and the noise pollution it creates. I cant sit in my backyard on saturday without hearing a constant buzz from mowers in the neighborhood. I have always felt that cities should encourage homeowners to not grow grass because in my opinion it is not "suitable". |

Cool. The foliage and blossoms of our squash plants are incredible. It would be tough to argue that they aren't just as much for show as for food.
Grass is good, it prevents erosion, improves soil, provides habitat for all kinds of beneficial critters and provides a durable surface for outdoor activities, it's a good thing. But no need to mow it so darn often or obsess over it with so much chemical treatments like some do. And when mowing, mulch not bag the stuff. Mulch is free fertilizer and soil improver. In places that don't receive much rain, it is kinda silly to try to keep a large lush lawn. |

I'd be tempted to just build the forms, call the contractor and pump in the concrete. F*CK them! |

Not enough sun in our front yard for veggies. We really enjoy the trees.

That's precisely why I'd never live in a "gated" community with by-laws strangling my liberty... What's sad is that this is about the city of Oak Park MI- NOT a gated community. Idiots. I do love the folks who have the creativity and resources to fully develop their entire usable land as an edible AND decorative landscape- occasionally there will be episodes on a couple of PBS shows about this... Oh well. Later this afternoon when it's cooler, I'll have to go put in several stakes in my tomato JUNGLE... then fire up the grill for some black beans and chicken and stuffed peppers, YUM! |

I let my daughter and her friend plant okra in my front yard, years ago. The only comment was, "oh, okra? We thought you were growing pot". Nothing else was said. |

I thought Okra's show was over? Thanks, Blake, now every front yard garden I see around here I am tempted to stop and take a photo to e-mail to Mr. City Ordinance! |

You know I was thinking...okra, as well as squash and cucumber are very prolific plants. One okra plant could possibly feed a small third world country. Don't ever plant more than one! The more you pick, the more it produces. Let's send some seeds to some of these starving nations...LET THEM EAT OKRA! |

Beautiful home Pwnzor Thanks, but it's not really mine... I searched teh interwebz for "truck parked on lawn" and found that pic. I too am a member of an HOA that mails me a warning if I have a dandelion sticking out from under a bush. For this privilege, I pay $600 a year. |

It's not just HOA's - it's busybody "concerned citizens" all over the place. These people should go to Switzerland and live, where neighbors denounce each other for all sorts of stupid stuff. Live and let live. I'll bet those people spend more time caring for their front garden than most of their neighbors. |

The way a person treats their pets and maintains their property is usually a very good indicator of character. |

Now they are after her for unlicensed dogs, which are apparently never in public view, being kept either in fenced-in back yard or in the house. http://www.infowars.com/front-yard-gardener-faces- new-charges/ |

Hate to say it but I think dog licences area joke and just away for the our cities to make more income. I believe a gog by law should have a rabies vacination tag on his collar. It shows that the owner cares enough for his/her pet to keep the pet up to date. If the dog would be stray??? That same tag gives all info so it can be returned. My dogs are also micro chipped but that was my choice. |

I agree. No license requirements in Kilgore, just the vaccination tag. I was thinking of an ear tattoo for permanent id for the pooch. Thought about the chip, which is great if doggie ends up at the pound, but not so helpful if someone picks him up and holds onto him. Would be tough to ignore a tattoo on the inside of an ear. It scares me how attached I am to Darrell. |
