The Iraqi Front, after the "surge" has stabilized down to near average killing, almost all by jihadists, and very few bathist holdouts causing notable trouble. ( only burning the clans to the ground, root and branch, would end it completely. Saddam's clan fought for the Nazi's against the Brits. We don't do that,so.... ) IF Iraq can keep from getting taken over by Iran... they have a shot. It's always been up to them, and I'd have done things different. Lots of things.
On the Afghan Front, things were as stable as they could be with us allowing the Taliban to shelter and resupply in Pakisatan. ( the money and arms from Iran and the Saudis' didn't help ) Then the New Guy ( Obama ) made a big stink on how Iraq was the Eviiilll Bush's War and Afghanistan was a Righteous Battle that He Would Win. ( while a very good argument could be made the other way around... ) This led to a increased level of violence, for a few different reasons. 1. Obama was seen as an inexperienced lefty wimp. 2. Calling for a focus of Afghanistan was a challenge. Especially to Muj who were getting their butt's kicked in Iraq as "the surge" kicked in.
Then Obama went for a new "surge" that just doesn't work the same in rural Afghan mountains valleys like it did in Urban Iraq. Different culture too.
The troops, however, have done an awesome job. Brit, Canuck, GI, Pole, etc. All deserve massive thanks. I've watched with admiration as Canadians with no budget and obsolete gear do seriously dangerous stuff. Ditto the Brits. Considering that the cost of the Social Democracy bit there had them get rid of big chunks of the RAF & RN.... incredible. ( Poles in Iraq found some poison gas too.... loved to have heard that phone call )

With close to 100 years of data no increases or decreases within the accuracy of the recording thermometers. Old weather data has to account for the quality of the old hand blown glass thermometers. My last set of Glass thermometers read only a 5 degree range over a 30" scale a 40 thermometer set they took regular exercising to be accurate. Todays weather stations are lucky to be within 2 degrees of the real temp. So a 1/2 degree rise over 10 years or longer isnt possible with the technology in use.
re: the IRA. Once any group has chosen to kill innocents, women, children, civilians... they give up any moral advantage they may have, or believe they have. I don't care if your cause is the invaders from the island next door, or religious persecution from your neighbors. You become the bad guys, you are the bad guys. I know some religions think it fine to target the innocent. Mine, however, does not.
