Does anyone here know of who made the traction grips for Buell? H/D said that the grips were contracted out and would not tell me who made the part that I was requesting. Any suggestions? |

Rat- i looked for the tennis racket tape and wanted the extra foam strip that came with the baseball bat tape. plus i like black and the store where i went only had tennis tape in colors. whatever works and is affordable is what i go with. i think the tape i got was $8/side i did replace it recently after having the original tape on there for 8+months |

Another popular way to make grips more comfortable is with "Grip Puppies". Just foam tubes that slide over your existing grips, they cost about ten bucks. I have been using them for a year or so on my Ducati 999S, and I like them. Just google "grip puppies", lots of places carry them. |

Love Grip Puppies but they do not work well for heated grips. Keep the heat FROM getting to your hands. |

I have some. I thought someone might know of who made the grips originally. |

Apparently your big brother at Harley Doodle had most all of the accessory suppliers return or destroy the tooling used to make Buell Accessories, and forbid them from making any more. One of the many reasons I am Harley Free at this time.

Try e-mailing Erik Buell Racing- if anybody knows surely they will. As popular as they are, lt seems to me this would be a very good accessory for Erik Buell Racing to sell. |

Well I got the same answer. Question to Erik Buell Racing : Does anyone know who made the Buell Traction grips. Hoping some one still makes them or something like them..... Erik Buell Racing Answer: We do not have these available to us. |

Yeah I am really surprised that Buell didnt continue to get them once the new company was started up. Would be easy to replace buell american motorcles with 'erik buell racing' |

Andy- it is funny in a sad way because we know the ultimate answer is unlikely to be found and even if it was unless they had some leftovers they likely wouldn't be making more |

So there is never a moment that you miss Lil' Blackie ? In a word - no. The bike that replaced Lil' Blackie in my affections, Big Red, is a 2005 Ducati 999S. And I must admit, that in spite of the fifty some modifications I made to Lil' Blackie, Big Red is a better bike in every way. After I bought the Duc, I was really never tempted to ride Lil Blackie again, so I sold her, in spite of the fact that DJ Kaplan predicted that I would never sell her because I was "in too deep". I guess that should not be that big of a surprise, since the Ducati cost just about twice as much as the XB12S. That being said, I will always be grateful for the comraderie and enthusiasm of many, many Buelligans that I have met, especially at the early Buell get togethers, March Badness , the 25th Homecoming, and of course on this board: there is no group of guys quite like them.

American Sport Bike sells grips that have the same "barrel" shape as the Traction grips, but they are softer. I like them better than the Buell grips. |

Erik has enough on his plate trying to get parts supplied for a completely new generation of superbike. I imagine he's more than a little FOCUSED at the moment. And slightly shorthanded (although I understand that's changing). Grips? Probably waaaaay down his "to do" list at the moment. |

Actually, I thought I had answered the question. Perhaps I should put it more clearly. When Harley shut down Buell, there was a great deal of personal animosity towards Buell. One of the ways this was expressed was to forbid the continued manufacture of Buell accessories, even though HD could have continued to sell and profit from them. So, this is the reason that you can't find out anything about the grips, or any other accessories. Harley has forbidden it. Pure and Simple. Got it now? |

>>>Would be easy to replace buell american motorcles with 'erik buell racing' It actually would be impossible and illegal. Harley-Davidson owns, and have exclusive providence over, anything that was related to Buell Motorcycle Company. For Erik Buell Racing to even think about this would be time consuming, costly and fruitless. |

Oh well, at least the bars are a normal size and you can go to any jap-bike dealer and get a pair of...ANYTHING other than the ones you actually want! |

These are the similar grips that American Sport Bike sells: http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5662.html Same basic shape as the Buell Traction grips, but made from "gel" rubber. I like the softer feel compared to the Traction grips. |

Natexlh1000 I agree. There are a ton of grips out there, if you want a flat grip. Not all people have little hands and ride wheelies all day. Hughlysses I have looked at those grips. Pro grips all have that gummy feel to them. Some people like them others don't. They are a little smaller than the Traction grips but not by much. I'm still looking into making an offshoot of the traction grip. There are allot of post out there on other forums that are still looking for a solid rubber grip like this. A big thanks to Al at american sportbike for trying to help. I'm still trying to find out who made them...... Anyone |

I wonder if you could make your own? Pull a plaster mold off a pair of the originals. I think they make kits for casting rubber parts. Not sure if the rubber would be similar or suitable though. |

So like any other bike - cut current grips off your throttle tube, clean up and grip glue these on? Are the ends open? or closed like the traction grips? (PITA). I liked how easy it was to swap the traction grips (minus drilling out the end) since they came pre glued to the throttle tube. |

IIRC, the end is closed, but you "slice" the end off rather than cutting out the center like you had to do with the Buell grips. It seemed much easier to do since the rubber is softer. There's also an extra "ring" towards the inside end of the grip (see above photo) that can be sliced off (if necessary) to make the grip the right length for your bike. I've got a set on my Uly and Honda Ascot right now, and I had a set on my 1125CR that I sold. |
