"Oh, and the wheels should match, just a thought."

Lawl, why? Because it looks cool?
No thanks, I'll go with works well.

Those comments aren't terrible, IMO. They are indicative of normal comments that salesmen/women will encounter on the sales floor. The secondary muffler does look terrible (yes, I'm aware it will come right off) and many, many people like matching wheels - even if that includes the previous Buell wheels which 'matched' but were not 'identical'.

Is the styling perfect? No. Should it be? I don't think so. To a certain extent, quirkiness is an attribute that sells. I'm rooting for Erik Buell Racing on this one. I want an engine like my Speed Triple inside my Buell chassis...

Gah, one person is complaining that the looks are too radical and then the person right above says its "dull" and blends in with all other sport bikes. Wow you just can't win these days.

I wish the articles coming out, instead of just posting max HP and some photos (and high price tag), would actually go into detail of why things look the way they do and some of the marvelous engineering behind the bike!

I also like how people make "racing cred" needed comments. Have they NOT been following AMA racing for the last 3 years?! WTF

rant over...

The wheels match in a way; they're both "skeletonized" which is really cool. But I too wish that they were more visually matching.
I also wish that there was a better looking exhaust on it simply to make the bike look better for press photos and the like. I know it'll be taken off of most bikes after purchase but it sucks that you have to "look past it"
The only other thing I don't care for is the way the leading headlight looks in profile. The perfectly round tip just looks odd.

Those are my gripes, I'm not sure if are similar to those in the article since I'm not signing up just to see it. However, these are all minor things that would not stop me in the least from buying the bike (if I were in the market for a $40K bike) Everything else about the bike is so freaking awesome.

I really want to see this bike go toe-to-toe with the Ducati 1198R and Bimota DB7R in an epic BATTLE OF THE SUPERTWINS.... let's all write to Cycle World!

>>>>"Oh, and the wheels should match, just a thought."

That speaks volumes. If you believe that, the 1190RS is not for you.

Motorcycle wheels have, traditionally, been a compromise between engineering and marketing.

Marketing wants them to match. Although that may be visually appealing it is grossly diminished engineering in the day of FEA and our ability to truly optimize design and construction.

The front and rear of a motorcycle do two completely different things and see completely different types of loads and stresses. When you see two that are identical you would be perfectly justified in asking which one made the sacrifice to appear like the other.

This, doubtless, has the capacity to be one of those discussions where folks just know they know better than the folks who spent months engineering and testing the wheels . . so be it, that's the Internet.

that back wheel is super sexy from the side and looking down through the skeletal remains of the front is mind blowing

The bike does not photograph well. The only way to truly realize the beauty is to see it up close in person. Period. I have seen it and it is beautiful...the carbon is flawless...as a jaded old man, I am not easily impressed...the RS impresses me...a LOT!

Motorcycle wheels have, traditionally, been a compromise between engineering and marketing.

You could add productionability (is that a word?) to that. The large hubs on MC wheels are like that because the casting process requires them. Erik Buell Racing took the time and had the knowledge to look at the hubs closely. If you can figure out how to make them without the massive hub you can really reduce unsprung rotating weight. Erik Buell Racing figured it out.

I'm beginning to think there might be some smart, creative people working there; )

The front and rear of a motorcycle do two completely different things and see completely different types of loads and stresses.

I'd argue that with the traditional front brakes on a 'typical' sport bike, the types of stresses that both wheels see are much more closely related than on a ZTL Buell. Both front and rear would need robust spokes to effectively transfer torsional loads from the hub to the rim - the ZTL system does away with that torsional load on the front wheel, and the spokes only need to support the weight of the bike and forward g forces when braking (over simplified, but we all get the point).

This may be why there hasn't previously been a push for different wheels front and back on bike before?

that has to be the most nip picking load of mess that a squid no nothing could come up with is the fact that the rims don't match...

the fact that the rims are something like 7lbs lighter than the lightest competitors rims is a huge accomplishment that should not go unnoticed and all that should matter in a pure performance machine like this one.

I think this bike is so very sexy. The only complaint i can find about the bike is the fact that it seems to come with a non-lockable gas cap. I realize some people like the one that comes on it and it would be great for racing but since this is the street version a locking gas cap would be nice.

OK- 3 for the tail light assembly, 2 for the exhaust pipe clamps, 2 for the muffler support, 2 for each mirror (4 total) = 11 total. There's also a bolt attaching the muffler bracket to the support, but you really don't have to remove it.

Look at the body work on the tubers. It may not be a coincidence that the first Erik Buell Racing motorcycle is reminiscent of the female form.

There should be a label above the headlight: "To start engine rub here."

On top of it all, I am just tickled pink for Erik.
