My xb12r will soon be in need of its 5,000 mile service. I know I can probably do this myself, but thought I'd call the local dealer (Smokin' Harley Davidson between Winston-Salem and Greensboro, NC). The service guy told me "we don't service Buell's. Can't get the parts for them." I told him the 5,000 mile service shouldn't require parts, to which he replied that he asked his manager and they don't service Buells. Period. I thought that was interesting, and that you guys might like to know it. On a happy note, I then called Cox's HD in Asheboro. The guy there said they'd be happy to do it for $240. That is cheap enough to save my afternoon, so the Cox's I go. |

If they aren't an official Buell dealer, they can't work on them. He might not even stock an oil filter for it. You can still go to www.buell.com and find a list of active Buell dealers. I believe Ray Price in Raleigh is still one. They used to be a board sponsor and were known for being very Buell-friendly. |

$240 is expensive for an oil change... |

Do It yourself. Buy a manual! The time you spend learning about Your Bike and Yourself is worth far more than $240. Like Froggy say's, the only thing being replaced is the oil. Everything else is a check / inspect, and not hard to do. Or, I bet a fellow Bueller would spend the afternoon with you and do it for far cheaper. Wish I was in the area... Hugh is only 4 hours away And I know he just wants to stretch that 09 engine out a little ! |

And I know he just wants to stretch that 09 engine out a little Actually, I'm working on something like that. Check the SC Buellers forum for info. |

I have a GREAT guy that is working on Piglet, that Jim Nance refered me to. He is a one man show and in Raleigh area. He even has put up with me asking to be squeezed in to replace the switch for the neutral light before my trip. Let me know if you want his info. He used to be 'The Buell Guy' at Ray Price. |

Funny I just wrote a guy an email (fio?) including this same stuff. GSO HD are SEMIbuell friendly, but apparently they have ONE tech that will work on a bike with a B on it, and if he's not in they refuse to touch it. Coxs is good Wilkesboro is Buell friendly, they are in Wilkes Im just outside of WS, PM me, lets go for a ride Also - Prior on here - Alex Prior, give him a call/email, he is a good source of knowledge! Hes in Kernersville, not far from Smokin' |

Honolulu, Just shot you a PM... I'm more than willing to help you out with your service and go over the bike. My Uly is actually due for its next service as well. $240 to me is a lot of coin for an oil change, I look at doing it myself as saving $200 I can put towards more tools My cost will probably be a cold case of Yuengling (which Teeters has on sale for $13.88 this week) The Uly was at GSO a month or so ago for a harness replacement and they did great. Service writer said the poor detail guy had something like 4 hours in cleaning my bike up! |

Wow. Awesome feedback. Prior, I'll shoot you an e-mail today and see when you are available. I'm happy to come to your place with a case (or three) of Yuengling! |

> If they aren't an official Buell dealer, they can't work on them. Well, they can't order parts for them. They can work on whatever they want to, though I can see why they might not want to get into a job and discover that they need something they can't get. |

"Oh, I also do tires now too!" ... and part time animal adoption services as well Who by the way came in with a young opposum in her mouth last night. Nasty critters. But back on task, when I was (broke down) in Cherokee they wouldn't even look at my bike. I don't think they were a Buell at all though. |

Yeah, even the dealers that can order parts are not in any hurry to fix your problem. As in, I am from Wisconsin and stranded in LA... and they can get your part in three work days, after the two day weekend. They did fix the bike, but THANK GOD FOR AL and American Sport Bike, oh and the sexy lady who let me ride on the back of her Beemer and almost made me shyat myself on the on ramp... |

And, yeah, Jim, that Bret has been a life saver. I would post his info right up here, but I am not sure if the mods would freak that he is not an official badweb sponsor. An example, it took him almost two hours to diagnose an electrical problem on a very busy day and he charged me for one hour at $55/ HR. Can't beat that. I will take the Piglet back up to Raleigh for service (a three hour drive) rather than deal with any dick-headed HD dealer. |

After Reep's 'rescue' and a few of the threads on here about bad dealers, poor service and breakdowns I've made it a point to start supplying myself with the 'stuff' necessary to help fellow Buellers out. I've got plenty of tools, and have added the NoMar, set of Timeserts for stripped drain plugs, have an ECMSpy setup on the way eventually etc. |

You'll be in good company with Prior. I'm sure the bikes will need a good test ride after the service. Can't wait to get back to VA for some Mountain Grass! |
